Title: London
Post by: exstream on May 08, 2015, 03:33:22 PM
It's all so confusing.
Never been before and going for 3 nights in July with 3 friends.
Travel sorted but now need a hotel near all the best nightlife, which area should we stay? There's so many of them.

Anywhere near the centre of town is going to be ££££££.

Have you done a search to get an idea of prices?

Not really but that's because I don't really know which area the 'center of london' is lol.

the west end (theatres, clubs, bright lights) is oxford street, regent street, mayfair, park lane, piccadilly circus etc

but that will be expensive to stay in

you can tube it for 20-30 minutes and stay much cheaper places and travel in

you are going into kings Cross from up north? on the train?

let us know where you travel into and we can give you some cheaper areas to stay in

If you are on a budget(125/150 a nite) I think some of the hotels along Bayswater Road area provide you with some good value and still close to everything/access to everything. JMHO

It is Kings Cross that we arrive at.
Thanks for replies everyone.

I would spend more to get a better hotel if you are down there for 3 days with good facilities/locations.  Cheap budget hotels in london are still expensive relatively.  Remember paying £120 a night to stay in a shithole near the vic in sussex gardens for example.  For anotehr £40 a night we could have stayed in the hilton just up the road.

location wise for the west end edgware road or Bayswater road both good, as Adz said above

all the major chains on edgware road, near the vic casino.

if you want to be based near kings X then the jurys inn islington is convenient, or there is a premier inn. less than a tenner in a cab
from the west end

search late rooms etc

I sometimes stay here mate, nothing fancy but if you just need a place to lay your head its fine, right opposite Holland Park tube station so easy to get everywhere. They do triple and quad rooms to if you are going with a group of mates and want to keep costs down.

You were ripped off. When I'm in London I usually find a cheap shithole for ~ £75 a night.

For newbies who just want somewhere clean, cheap and convenient you can't beat Travelodge Kings Cross central imo. Around £100 per night for a three bed room,  all your transport links virtually outside the door and on a nice busy road with shops and takeaways and plenty of cabs passing by, (not that you need a cab with the tube station opposite, buy a 24h travel card and the world's your lobster).
Although not a luxury pad I think it's an ideal base for exploring London.

Stay here, its the best location to reach anywhere (unless you stay near Leicester Sq). If you want to do some shopping, food, theatre/cinema get a tube from kings cross to Piccadilly Circus/Leicester Sq, China town is just round the corner, Covent Garden is (on the same tube line) walking distance for entertainment/food/shopping. Hippodrome/Empire/G Casino all around L Square for Poker or degening. L Square has lots of cinema's. Shaftesbury Avenue has all the theaters and is walking distance (5 mins). Regent Street starts at Piccadilly Circus and you can walk up it and reach Oxford Street/Tottenham Court Road. If you tube it to Westminster you can go on the London Eye/Westminster Abbey/Boat down the Thames. If you stay in Kings Cross you can get a bus (taxi shouldnt cost too much) to Madam Tussauds.

If you dont mind spending a bit more money then stay at W on Wardour Street which is just off Leicester Sq above M and M world (i got mine through lastminute it was a secret hotel but you can work it out by putting the description in google) think it cost about £120 a night but well worth it as you are on top of everything.

Wouldnt stay on Oxford Street unless you are mainly shopping as apart from St Christophers Place it becomes dead after the shops shut. Would not stay west of oxford street as its going away from the tourist area (BAyswater, Edgware Road, Hyde Park Etc)

I only live in Stevenage but me and the wife stay in London quite often as we love doing the tourist stuff, (even though i worked on Oxford Street for 12 years!!!).Love London, great place to visit but make sure you re mortgage the house before you go, probably one of the most expensive places on earth. Have great time. Are you and the girls just going to see the sites, poker or clubbing?

I think the Premier Inns are decent options, there are ones in Euston approx 20 mins walk/short cab ride from Leicester square, Covent Garden and a relatively new but probably expensive one in Leicester Square itself which is about as central as you can get.
No idea of your budget but there is also a Youth Hostel in Kings Cross/Euston and a backpacker's hostel near Piccadilly Circus.

It is nice round there.  Lots of the big museums round there and nice places to eat.  And at least the reviews are more interesting than normal.

Meh, most of the cheap places get shit reviews, it's usually because people's expectations are too high. The place I posted earlier in the thread also gets similar reviews, it's absolutely fine if your expectations are at the right level, you just need to remember you are staying at a budget hotel.

Thing is when you spend £100 a night in West London you expect to stay somewhere nice because it is £100 but relatively it is like staying in a £30 hotel in Bolton/Walsall/Stoke so it is going to be a relative shit hole.  That's just the way it goes.

That's close behind

We used the free WiFi to find a better hotel and evacuated just after midnight.

Room Tip: Perhaps one at the back on the top floor or another hotel!
