Title: Surprisingly wealthy people
Post by: Woodsey on July 05, 2015, 01:34:18 PM
Jamie Oliver, It's pretty obvious he has a few quid but apparently he's worth £200 mill+  :o. I wouldn't have guessed anywhere near that amount.

I don't get this "do the decent thing thing and not go after the cash" nonsense.

It's not her money, it's their money.

He is entitled to the share, so why shouldn't he get it?

Never understood why people are entitled to such hefty chunks in a divorce tbh, divorce law is mostly shite when it comes to fair settlements imo.

i expected him to be wealthy but $800m?

"Jerry Seinfeld has an estimated net worth of $800 million, says Forbes Magazine.

Syndication residuals from his eponymous sitcom make up the bulk of Seinfeld’s income, along with money from his stand-up shows as well as DVD sales. The New York native is still one of the highest paid comedians in America, more than fourteen years after Seinfeld series finale first aired.

The show about nothing continues to pull in millions of dollars each year for the world’s the top-earning comedian. After airing for nine seasons on NBC, Seinfeld has made a $2.7 billion since it went off the air in 1998, a jaw-dropping figure that does not surprise its viewers one big. Seinfeld’s stand-up act remains lucrative and another NBC series, the unscripted Marriage Ref, brings in producer fees."

Gisele Bündchen is a Brazilian fashion model.  In the late 1990s, Bündchen became one of the first in a wave of Brazilian models to find success.  She initially intended on making a career as a professional volleyball player, but her plans changed after being discovered by a modeling agency at the age of thirteen.  In 1999, Vogue magazine dubbed her “The Return of the Sexy Model.”  Bündchen has been hired as the face of many multi-million dollar fashion campaigns, including Versace, Ralph Lauren, Louis Vuitton, Dolce & Gabbana, Michael Kors, Christian Dior, and Victoria’s Secret.  Her non-apparel advertising campaigns include Nivea lotion, Credicard (Brazilian version of Citibank), Volkswagons do Brazil, Ebel (luxury Swiss watches), and Apple Inc.

Shakira is married to a Spanish footballer. I bet she's a lot richer than him. Think he's more run-of-mill than 'superstar', though, certainly compared with Tom Brady.

Wtf?  :o

Just scanning a UK's richest people list when thinking about this thread and saw a guy called Michael Platt in number 13. I used to go out with this guys sister when I was in my early 20's, he was just starting out as a trader on the stock exchange then. Done well for himself, bet he's given his sister a lump of it too  ;frustrated; :D

One that surprised me recently when I read up about him.....the guy who has the boxing catch phrase ''Let's get ready to rumble''. Think he was worth $300m when I looked. His (presumably less wealthy) brother has a similar gig in UFC.

Nice work if you can get it.

Seems his catchphrase has got him the lot! He had it trademarked in 1992, and obviously it has appeared in many things from adverts to albums to computer games. Been announcing boxing matches since the early 80's (plus for a few years in WCW), so I'm sure that has pocketed him a fair few quid, but seems the bulk of his wealth is due to that 5 word sentence ultimately.

Michael Buffer is his name fwiw.

I remember the geezer who used to do the intros for the snooker players thought of himself as a "nearly 'indispensable brand'".

So he asked Barry Hearn for a pay rise.

He soon found out he wasn't as indispensable as he thought he was.

Looks like I was $100m out with his fortune before....

When superstars Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao face off on May 2, one of the wealthiest people in the ring won’t have to take a punch to earn his pay check.

According to ABC news, in 2009 Michael Buffer had a net worth of over $400 million:

“By trademarking his catchphrase, Buffer has generated over $400 million in revenue, selling the rights to music, video games, merchandise and while making personal appearances. His business venture is so successful, Buffer doesn’t even have to say his catchphrase to make money. He makes more from the trademark than he does announcing in the ring.”

Philadelphia, PA native Buffer, who usually makes between $25,000 and upwards of $100,000 per appearance, has been paid up to one million dollars for a night’s work.

“It’s become lucrative for me now,” Buffer, 70 years old, told boxing-monthly. “I came up with a catchphrase that’s become a trademark that has turned into a business all its own, so I’m blessed in that way. “

He also beat throat cancer back in 2008, which is pleasingly ironic.

Did he come with the saying before or after "The Rumble in the Jungle"?

If it was afterwards, the guy who came up wth that tagline must have a pretty decent case to sue Buffer.
