Title: Hunted (Channel 4)
Post by: hhyftrftdr on September 27, 2015, 11:24:52 PM
Others been watching this? Thoughts so far?

Was a shame to see the Doctor nabbed last week. He was always one step ahead of them, but I think it was a lapse in judgement and too big a risk to take the train all the way to London.

Anyone reckon they could evade capture for the full 4 weeks?

Love watching it, I actually had a phone interview to go on the show but didn't fancy being cut off from the world for a month!

The doctor was great fun, needling them at every opportunity. I was willing him to get off the train at a smaller station on the way as he had originally planned.

I reckon very very few people could actually do it. 2% of people maybe?

I reckon it would be easy.

They've obviously done it with a couple of hundred people with loads managing it so they've filmed others.

Was discussing the train aspect on another forum (the none football area of Blue Moon of all places). Couple of people thought he was unlucky to get caught, whereas I thought the mental strain of being on the run and whatnot probably led to him making a poor decision to go to London. He was pretty sharp, so I'm surprised he didn't realise that if there was even just a tiny chance they know he's on that train, he needs to get off at a stop en route to the capital.

Whatever stop he got off at the net would've closed in on him with CCTV at all the stations, but he might have had chance to go to ground again before it was curtains.

I guess an ideal applicant is someone without children? Or dislikes the children they have ;) And not particularly close to their family or is close but has the mental toughness to not cave in and contact them? As that seems to be the biggest weakness of the people involved.

I actually had a phone interview for this and got through but couldn't get the time off work (which ended up being in Vegas so no big loss) to film it so withdrew at the next stage (video submission).

I think Dr Allen gave in. The press release tactic they used kinda did him in tbh. He probably knew that his mates car was tagged as you'd expect him to remember that he used the damn car to get cash out of a cashpoint and they are all CCTV'd up. If he'd hiked over to Glasgow he'd have been able to go through to MK without any issues. His biggest mistake though was leaving that phone behind to taunt them.

They didn't. They literally took about 16 or whatever the total was. Put it this way, my phone interview was at the beginning of April so they wouldn't have had time to film a couple of hundred people, edit all the footage, and get the show ready for now.

I don't think many could at all. I know I'd have struggled wanting to contact Julie. The best tactic IMO would have been to load up on food/water, grab a tent, get away from your place, leave a false trail and stay in one place for two weeks with no contact from anyone except your cameraman. But, that would make shit TV, so I would expect they are "encouraged" to move around.

It's a very good show. Think its rehash of a show shared in Belgium and Holland that they used to play live, and the public were the Hunters. Think it stopped over there a couple of years ago.

Bunch of randoms get an hour to run after being told they're a fugitive. Some of the best in the world have to find them. They have to evade capture for 28 days. All they get is a debit card with £450, a cameraman to follow them, and whatever they can grab from their place.

Try smartDNS from overplay.net

I'm 99% sure this won't affect your poker sites as it just edits for certain sites, not *all* your internet traffic like a VPN does.

If in doubt, ask them though.

i am struggling to remember the name of it but it reminds me of a show quite a few years ago
where the contestants had to complete tasks every days while being chased then during a live broadcast
where highlights of there day was shown they had to stay in a phone box while the team hunted them down
the public also phoned in clues

got to say i think this new show would have a bit more too it if they had the element of having to preform a task
everyday otherwise just camping out for a couple of weeks would be so easy

I'm guessing one of the rules was that they couldn't leave the country? Catching a flight might have been tricky with the waiting around in an airport but a ferry or train out of England might have been feasible.

Load up on food, water and camping gear and head deep into the countryside. And try not to go stir crazy.

Last episode has just been repeated on 4 so watched it again.

Easy to think/say with hindsight, but what if the doctor stayed on the train to Euston but didn't get off and hid in the bogs or w/e? These trains usually hang around for a while whilst being cleaned/change of staff, so he stays on whilst stationary at Euston, the hunters hang around for a bit and don't see him amongst all the other passengers vacating so wander off back to HQ going on the assumption he's got off en route, and now the Doc is completely under the radar in London.

Or am I overthinking shit? :)

I haven't watched it yet so just guessing, but I assume the Debit card is for the tv programme i.e. is easily tracked. Surely irl anyone going on the run would stick to cash

if you was going on the run IRL with one hours notice you might not have that cash lying around so you have to use the ATM at some point and as you are limited as the amount you can take out at a time you need to take out early in the run, ideally at 23:59 then 00:001 so you can take out twice as much
but if it was the cops you were running from they would freeze your bank account

As Mulhuzz said last week when someone looks up from their computer and announces they've had a hit on the mobile ANPR it's actually a text message from the cameraman. If you can get over that then it's great.

I think the original was called 'Wanted'?

Channel 4 perhaps 12-15 years ago? Me and my mate Lawrence were ALL OVER that show - absolutely loved it. It basically got 'completed' by a couple of blokes that went and lived in a ditch for a month though; don't think it returned after that.

Yeah, pretty much. They tend to withdraw a lump out in one go in the first hour which is expected.

I watched some yesterday they must be given tasks or rules or some sub set of reasons why they cant just turn their phone off and go camping for a month with the camera man.

I think it's totally fair the way they 'replicate' the concepts of the tools. better that than them waste resources.

Loved the dopey women running in different directions from the police helicopter, idiots  ;dingdell; rotflmfao

Shame about the doctor guy considering how cocky he was at the start.

same with the Asian lads who are like we're going to nail it, then minutes later are desperately phoning their families after 20 minutes away  ;grr; ;grr; ;grr;

Quite into this one, seems pretty tough though, what's the idea strategy? Sleeping in a tent and hitchhiking?

not sure need to know the rules they are given about spending money, continual movement etc

keeping it simple like not using your fking mobile phone or that of your close mate would be a nice start.

This is key, i mean if you are OTR the first thing you do is pawn your own mobile get a cheap handset and a few SIM's.

Surprised none of them have logged onto blonde took a few selections from TFT and had a spin up with their first lot of cash which would avoid the need for cash machines.

Also telling folk they are being hunted, that must be one of the weakest mistakes to make.

Keep the head down travel tp places that are used to seeing strangers come in, try and get some casual work.

Yeah there must be some rules in place that mean they can't just go to one location and stay there for a month, wouldn't make for great tv entertainment just camped out in a field for 4 weeks whilst the cameraman films you sleeping and shitting.

People yet again making silly/basic errors. Using your phone is such a clear no no. Getting help from a network of friends....that's all well and good but you leave a trace like those ex military guys the other week.

I'd head either highlands or somewhere coastal, if you could make it to Devon/Cornwall undetected you're laughing, CCTV hasn't been invented down there yet. Live on the beach for a month and then count your winnings.

Just FYI but it may ruin it for people. My good friend was on it last year, Harinder Khangura (Asian lad from Leicester, went on the run with his brother)

He said it was a complete farce from start to finish. You had to move on every 48 hours which isnt realistic, and you had to use the phone at least 1 time a week. You submit a list of friends/contacts who have to be pre-approved (I was one and had to be pre-interviewed) I think you are allowed 6-10 Max

You are only allowed to contact those people which limits your options, and obviously with them replicating power of state they can ask cameraman for CCTV etc but at times there was no possible CCTV to be requested. Oh and to top things off they had to give their passwords to electrical goods over.

I love the concept but as with most Tv nowadays is all abit set up and staged. Did anyone see last weeks miraculous hacking of the laptop guessing his wifes name and a random date I mean come on!

living on the beach leaves a trace and you get that person who will turn them in

got to find a place that you are able to live off the land (very rare on the mainland uk) somewhere you dont needto interact with locals and locals wont notices your eco footprint

not immensely surprised by some of that.

Keep moving makes some sense so you cant just hide in someones basement and have no chance to be caught, the idea is to advertise the pervasive nature of surveillance and be a show of strength for government power (dont try and run etc).  Passwords makes total sense, same with cameraman reporting information IF certain criteria are met as they aren't going to be using actual anpr systems or have access to government technology. But they easily could access devices if they wanted.

Using the phone once a week is pretty cheap, especially if that's part of the new bigger prize money series.  As it just gives them an excuse to pinpoint them once a week. I guess at least if you know this you use your call/calls as a decoy /red herring and try to distance yourself from the information it gives away.

My favourite bit so far is when the young girls hitchiked with the guy with the Jag I think it was and he just starts laying down the lessons about why what they are doing is bad and how to improve. love it :D

I was very happy when the posh extravert woman got caught she had no right being on the show!
