Title: The Stoke City thread, a sad, sad, sad tale.
Post by: tikay on September 26, 2016, 02:06:08 PM

After so many years of mid table mediocrity, are they about to be relegated this season?

Can we blame the change of stadium name? Nobody likes lolzz bookies.

Sack Hughes?

Get a deece keeper?

After so many years of mid table mediocrity, are they about to be relegated this season? About as much chance of Leicester City winning the League

Can we blame the change of stadium name? Nobody likes lolzz bookies. Possibly. The Victoria Ground will always be the best name, ever.

Sack Hughes? Nope. After we lose to manure in the next game, we should pick up some points in some 'easier' fixtures after. We will have to see where we are again after the Chr****ass period

Get a deece keeper? Already got the best one in England. Just like Banks & Shilton, Butland will hopefully go on and be a Legend for us. We have also all the best Dart players from Stoke. It must have something to do with all those extra digits on their hands ;)

I'm not knocking Stoke with the next comment but isn't mid table in Premier League relative success ?  (given clubs like Man Utd, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs, Arsenal, Everton etc are always likely to be above them?)

I always remember seeing Bolton fans bleating about their position in the Premier League when any place in the Premier League was relative success for them.

Don't fans get unrealistic expectations sometimes???

We'll be fine. Doubtful we'll get 9th again if we've started this poorly but we'll be fine, especially when we have a fully fit squad. We were much better this weekend compared to previous weeks, undone by a late tony pulis speciality set piece goal.

Yes yes, to be honest, my tongue was firmly in cheek, & I was fishing a bit.

If I'm honest, I think it's amazing that a little club like Stoke City from a small provincial town regularly achieved mid-table, often not far behind big clubs like West Brom & Palace.

I think you need better bait for Arb. Try for some subtle nonsense about the dogs. Or just start chelping about inside biases and how good you run, particularly aftertiming.

"chelping" is a great word.

There's certainly a few chelpers on blondepoker.

Can't see any possible downside in Stoke at all at 45.5 like i have said elsewhere on forum in the last week.  They are 14/1 to go down.  The two don't really equate imo.  I don't think 14/1 to go down is any value either.  Would probably happily lay that.  Wouldn't mind an even £5k Stoke to finish above Bournemouth either!

Cheers for this tip btw arblolzz, spreads have them at 37.5 now. #doneit

It was a joke to get Arb back posting. I was asking for the worst price available on Stoke to go down!
For the record, I don't think they are at all likely to go down.

Bit of a longshot but here goes. Will anybody here be able to buy 3-4 tickets for the west ham away game on November 5th? They're currently on sale to season ticket holders only and are selling pretty fast. I'm currently in Australia but am spending a few weeks back in England from the start of november, and would be gutted if I can't get any tickets for this one due to a sell out. Will obviously ship the money plus a bit extra to buy yourself some beers with for the effort.

Not expecting anything but who knows? Thanks guys! UTMP

I thought odds-against the win today looked generous and would have saved you locking up the wedge.

Stoke's senior Academy coach - and my friend - John Perkins passed away today after a short illness. He had also worked for Wolves, Derby and with Brian Clough at Forest.

RIP John.

It was John's funeral yesterday and not only did the club bring two coach loads of academy and u23 players, Hughes and Shawcross also came to pay their respects and attend the wake. John's son is 18 on Monday and I know it meant a huge amount to him to see how much his Dad was respected and admired.

Well done Stoke.

Any news on Geoff Cameron? He has been listed as coming back from injury next week for the last 5 weeks maybe on FL website, been holding out on him but can't find anything.

I've actually not got a clue about Cameron, all the attention seems to be on whether an ageing Lee Grant is worth the £4m derby are asking for, or the never ending injury to Jack Butland.

Butland is out for a few more months according to reports. Really hoping he's not one of these players who has so much potential which can't be fulfilled due to ongoing problems.

Derby will be loving life now. Can demand what they want for their on loan keeper now. Stoke just have to pay it.

You'd have thought the team may have to keep it quiet until Grant was signed up. Can't see how we'll get away with much less than the £4m they were demanding before. Just got to sigh and flick them the money IMO.

I also saw rumours that Begovic may be returning on loan? Can't see it happening to be honest.

Just watched this and i think i hate Eddie Hall more than I did at the start of it.

Seriously misguided if he thinks that him winning WSM will have people talking about him in pubs and clubs up and down the country.

He's a seriously strong guy, but there can't be many in that game not mad on the roids.

Never followed anything strongman related apart from occasionally seeing Eddie Hall's name pop up on social media, but really enjoyed the documentary.

Huge credit to the bloke, never seen anybody more determined to achieve their dreams than him. But Jesus, he's a rough Stokie bastard

I did half expect to see a trolley piled high with boxes of Stella being pushed along the aisle behind the big man.

Do you reckon he'll win worlds strongest man at some point?

No he is just too small height wise and is too one dimensional in having great static strength but not a great mover.  He will be a permanent top 5 finisher for the next few years though but i don't think he will ever win it outright.  I would love to see bet365 get behind him as a local lad and give him all the financial support he needs to give it his best shot though as a born and bred stokie.  Would be another great success story for the city.

I predic he'll be dead in the next 10 years.

As a strength athlete I would like to see him get a good sposorship deal that would allow him to train full time without the need to work. I know how tough it can be going from work to the gym 5 days a week and trying to work to your max.

He has brute static strength but I don't think he is fit, he is too big, has very little flexibility and his cardio is a mess.

I'd take a punt on Adam Bishop becoming world champ before Eddie.  He has the potential in my book to be very good assuming he continues to develop.

He gave up work 2 years ago to be full time.  I just get the impression he is still skint though and doesn't have the optimal resources to fund his training/roids etc.  bet365 flicking him £100k a year for a few years in his absolute prime would literally be peanuts for them but give him every chance to max his talent.

Thanks for posting that video, very interesting!

I watched the Strongest Man over Christmas and Eddie Hall came a very commendable third, despite dislocated fingers hampering his efforts.

Seems like he could really contend for the title next year. This year's winner (Brian Shaw (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Shaw_(strongman))) will be coming to the end of his career soon meaning these comps should become a two-horse race between Hall and Bjornsson (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Haf%C3%BE%C3%B3r_J%C3%BAl%C3%ADus_Bj%C3%B6rnsson). Bjornsson has the experience but Hall is improving quickly!

hmmm just can't see Shaw retiring anytime soon. Big Z will be back this year too. Hall the best at static lifts but carries too much weight for the cardio stuff
