Post by: Sue.E.Cidal on March 05, 2006, 02:38:38 PM

Andras KARKUS is looking to double his 221.100  in chips

Sigi Stockinger is trailing the pack with 116.800  in chips...

And these lucky contestants will be playing for some serious cash indeed :

1. place:  145.300,-
2. place:  79.900,-
3. place:  40.900,-
4. place:  31.700,-
5. place:  27.200,-
6. place:  22.700,-

That's in Euros...

Oh, and the latest from Ernst : He's eager to get in there, though a bit worse for wear. He thought the lady that interviewed him was well-hot indeed, and, he says, it wasn't a stain on his pants, it's scuffmarks- not quite sure what to make of that, though he claims the trousers 'are designed that way' . Sure they are.  Good luck to him anyway- Flop some NUTS !

OK Sue, I am already feeling a bit superfluous - and it took me half an hour and my dialup card to get that post on... for some reason it takes about an hour every afternoon for my computer to decide it will access blonde for me, after which time it's smooth as praline...

They have announced that the final will start in around 15 minutes (hour and a half about the right amount of time for me to get set up grrr).

****************NAME CHANGE******************

You may have noticed that the gent we've been calling Tim Miles has his name down on the final Six as Tim Krank.  Snoopy got a pic of him and asked him how the Concord managed to misspell Krank so phenomenally.  Apparently Tim Krank is his screen name and preferred alias (he said "TK" rather alarmingly) so that is what we shall call him.

which means we have 4 TKs!

Big TK = Thomas Kremser
Little TK = Thomas (Big TK's number 2)
American TK = Thomas Krank
tikay = the ol' fella

Ok, all the TK's are confuzzin !

Wouldn't wanna make my newfound yet trusted newssource feel superfluous- I humbly apologize. I appreciate this, I really do. So the action's getting started about now then ? Good stuff, I've been doing some good work on my thesis but need to divert my attention before I go bonkers. Let's get it on yo ! Ernst would just about be the smuggestestest bastard in the world if he comes back to Leiden with 140 sumfin grand in his pocket, but he has promised me a beer- I guess I'll put up with it.  Game on !

At the moment, we can't get anywhere near this final table. There's nowhere for the press to stand and, unlike the EPT events, there is no seating allocated to the audience.

Very frustrating, we're depending on Thomas Kremser to announce the action over the microphone.

Bah.

Four TK's ????

I thought Thomas Kremser's second in command was Thomas Lamatsch.

Maybe he has moved on. He's a nice chap though. Smiley face and sandy hair.

Yep, really annoying.

Just makes thing so difficult when it comes to reporting hands, chip counts, etc

We'll do our best though.

Sue - you are by far the most enthusiastic New Supporter I have seen on blonde for a while... I am sure your mate Ernst appreciates an audience.  Although honestly when this goes out on TV there will be a much wider one.  I can see the little holes on the side of the table where the holecard cameras lurk, and there's the most extraordinary camera on boom thing swinging over the audience's heads.

Aaaah, I'm calling him Little TK though because he's like Big TK, but not quite as big.

I don't think so.

[From left to right]

Wardonkey, RED-DOG, tikay, Julian, ChunkyMick, & Be4Matt.

Not sure why they're all so slanted, really bizarre.

Maybe we're on a ship and no1's told me, although I think I'd probably notice something like that.  :dontask:

As being enthousiastic- Ernst got me into serious poker in the first place. I'm gratefull- and eager to follow the steps he takes. So yeah, I am quite eager to see how he does : could be me in a year or so... I've caught some two outers against him in the past- but never in a serious tournament. I really hope he takes this down. He is on a roll...

A hand has been announced, which can only mean one thing - An ALL-IN!  and....

Andras Karkus has been eliminated in 6th place, for €22,700

Sigi raised, found Tim re-raising, but it was Andros who took him on all-in, with   Aspades Ks.  Tim held  9d 9s, and the flop brought the King, but quickly thereafter the 9 to make Tim Krank a set which housed up on the turn.  Tim is now chip leader - at first break I'll saunter on up to the table to count the chips.

Title: Re: The EWSOP Vienna - Final Day LIVE UPDATE
Post by: snoopy1239 on March 05, 2006, 05:02:03 PM
Interestingly, if they struck a deal now and chopped it up equally, they would each take away €65,000 each.

Title: Re: The EWSOP Vienna - Final Day LIVE UPDATE
Post by: Djinn on March 05, 2006, 05:03:32 PM
Chip counts at this Final Table Break...

Ernst Hermans     793,000
Tim Krank           690,000
Mark Bartlog        382,000
Jonathan Plens    298,000
Sigi Stockinger    182,000

So Ernst has regained the lead - lots of smaller pots for the Leader, and the same kind of small lead he held at the start of the day.

Interesting side point - very early on Day Two we asked El Blondie for his predictions for the final.  The only thing he sounded pretty certain on was a) that Sigi Stockinger would make the final and b) he wouldn't come first, but probably fourth.  Eerie.

Some approximate chip-counts:

Plens -- 250k
Stockinger -- 150k
Krank -- 750k
Hermanns -- 650k
Bartlog -- 400k

Ernst doubles through off Tim Krank.

Ernst must have taken a big knock at some point, as he's not massive, even after winning this hand.

He was all-in with 9c Tc against Tim's Ahrt Qd

Board = 9h Kc Ac Jc

and it's all over before the raggy river.

Cautionary Tale News Now -

The amiable David Bagheri came in today with some rather alarming news - having been out boozing with friends til late last night, he left a pub at about 5:30am and was followed by a fairly shady lady for a while, who tried to convince him to get into a car.  When it became apparent that he wasn't interested, he noticed someone running at him.  Luckily he seemed fairly capable when it came to self defence and hit the guy in the nose - then another guy (who'd been waiting in the car) tackled him and tore off his jacket sleeve, among other things.  He got up and ran, followed by mugger two, and jumped into a taxi.

When he got back to his hotel, he found the €400 or so he had on him had disappeared, and told the cab to wait.  But he fell asleep when he got back to his room, and woke up to find the cab driver and some police demanding payment for the last night.  When he told them about what he thought might have been an attempted kidnapping, they didn't believe him and left with his money for the taxi ride.

What this boils down to is a Warning to happy successful poker players who go out in strange cities and talk about how happy and successful at poker they are - large amounts of cash are a beacon for bad guys and David feels lucky to have gotten off so lightly.  A nice guy in the wrong place at the wrong time - so be careful, globetrotters.

he must have taken a serious knock somewhere down the line I'm afraid, as it didn't seem to take too much of a dent out of Tim's stack.

Battle between the middling stacks, Mark Bartlog and Jonathan Plens:  Mark raised, and Jonathan pushed in (preflop).  A dwell ensued, as this hand would be pretty much a decider for one or the other of them, and Mark decided to cut his losses, fold, and play as a short stack.

Blinds are at 6,000 - 12,000 ante 1,000 so pretty steep, and those on around 100k will be feeling the pressure.  Really can't estimate chips as we only have a 2D view of the stacks meaning that players' chips behind other chips aren't visible.  Would rather get it precisely when they get another break...

I so wish they'd implement microchip-in chips and sensors under the racetrack- probably expensive but seems like a good investment if they're serious about tournaments etc.. Would be well handy. And displays set up for the audience to monitor the numbers of course.

ps. Hello Mrs Mason  :hello:

Yes, I see you lurking!  This update goes out to the Cricklewood collective:

Mark Bartlog is OUT in 5th place, winning €27,300

Tim Miles/Krank either flat called or small-raised in early position.  Mark on the button pushed the lot in, and Tim beat him into the pot, with his  Ac Ad!  Mark's  Kd  Jd was in trouble.
Flop:  Th 6s 2h
The turn was an 8, sealing his fate, and he was already standing up and shaking hands as the river Jack fell.  Hard luck to the USA-originating, Italy-residing competitor.

More on the Krank v Hermanns hand.

A-Q v 9-7 of clubs

Both big stacks.

Flop brought top pair for Krank, but a flush draw for Hermanns.

There was betting on the flop before the turn flushed up Hermanns.

All the chips then went in and Hermanns took down the pot.

Quote from Krank: "First mistake. Going up against another big stack. He'd been bullying me about a little and pushing me off a few pots, and I thought he was doing it again. I had him down for just the one club."

I have tried very hard to count the chips, but without a direct contact to the Boss Man it's tough.  But to give you some idea (and I know these don't add up to the right amount):

Tim Krank       350k
Sigi Stockinger  250k
Ernst Hermans  900k
Jonathan Plens  500k

Massive pot.

Ernst raises to 95k from the small blind. J Plens moves all-in from the big blind.

Ersnt calls and confidently flips over Kh Kd

Jonathan shows Ac Ts

First card out = Ks

Bang.

Rest of the flop = Ks 9s 2s

It's looking grim, not even a straight draw possibility.

Turn = 6s

and then... remarkably

River = 3s

SPLIT POT

Another all-in situation, this time shortest stack Sigi moved in with  Qd Qc against AK (that old chestnut).  But instead of being eliminated and scarily proving Dave right, he hit a Queen on the flop to double through at this crucial moment.

Turn = 6s

and then... remarkably

River = 3s

SPLIT POT

Are you sure that the guy had  Ts in his hole cards ?

Otherwise no split pot surely.

You can't trust Snopoy with information.... It was the  Tc.  Or that wouldn't make any sense.  Which you've all picked up on immediately.  Clever you.

Another split pot for Ernst, this time against the all-in Sigi with  Aspades Qc, which he took on with, er,  Ad Qh.  Although the flop brought two diamonds, there was to be no more excitement and they're carrying on.

Oh - we're down to Three players after a close call all-in between Sigi and Tim Krank - -

but Tim Krank is OUT in 4th place, winning €31,700

He made a move against preflop raiser Sigi with the powerhouse that is  8c 3h, but Sigi had the goods -  Kc Ks and called.  The flop brought two Aces, and we were confused for a minute over whether Tim had A 3 or 8 3, but it was the latter and he was walking, as he was just covered.

Note for Catalan in Viena -

I asked the TV production people about when and where this show would air, and they couldn't give a definite time - could be months away.  But, it is being aired on numerous channels, e.g. Sky Sports France, possibly UK, Eurosport Italy, and most likely others of this nature.  I'd just keep an eye out in a month or so if you have cable.

He's rather gamely trying to keep one finger in the €1,000 pie while covering the final too.  But it really is tough to get anything report worthy from this final.  Usually there are a couple of screens displaying, for example, what the FlopCam sees, but we are yet to actually see a single card on the board or in a player's hand.

Title: Re: The EWSOP Vienna - Final Day LIVE UPDATE
Post by: snoopy1239 on March 05, 2006, 08:16:59 PM
Okay, this sux big time in my opinion.

We follow this comp for 3 long days, promoting both the tournament and the casino, yet when it comes to the final table, we can't get anywhere near it.

We can't see or hear nowt.

Photos are problematic due to the ban on flashes and the raised stage which means that our shots are from lower down. We can't get close to the table, so all our piccies are from afar. Also, we have very few angles from which to shoot due to all the crew's apparatus being in the way.

Seeing specific hands is virtually impossible. Kremser is only announcing all-ins, which are few and far between. If we want update on a hand, we surely need to be closer than 10 miles away from the table.

There are no table cameras, no flops visible to the audience, no nothing. Audiences aren't even really welcomed. No seating area and very few spots for people to stand and watch, which explains the complete lack of atmosphere.

To top it all off, when I asked, in the nicest possible way may I add, for 3 mere chip counts, I was completey bovved off by a woman who said 'maybe' and never returned.

Sux big time.

grr

rant over...

The final has been on a lengthy break, and sitting at the table is Nick Szeremeta and another presenter with those kind of black puffy mics that sports commentators use.  Apparently he was roped in as he arrived to do live commentary and break-time analysis for the tournament, which calls him back from the bar.  He seems pretty happy to be involved, though.

You know, I really wish that there were some nail-biting heads up hands to report.  I really do.  But the lack of visibility of table, combined with lack of hand announcing, combined with terrible internet connection on my part make it tough.  Oh, and the fact that there haven't really been any nail-biting heads up hands.

Currently we are waiting on the sidelines to bring you the conclusion of this 4-dayer, but it appears that interest has waned somewhat... The last time Thomas Kremser did a chip count, they were almost exactly level, so no down-to-the-felt all-ins yet.  It may well come to a conclusion only when the blinds become enormous later tonight and the rocky players still left in have to gamble it up a bit.

There was just an all-in!  But it was Sigi who, rather surprisiingly, moved in with  Aspades 3s.  Jonathan Plens rather unsurprisingly called with  Kd Kc.

The flop:  9s 7s 2h
Turn: 2s
River:   7c

And Sigi Stockinger doubles to 1,506,000, leaving Jonathan on 751,000.

Jen here -

My laptop appears to have given up the ghost with regards to the internet, and a half hour fiddling with it has proven totally futile.  So while Jon watches the €1,000 final, I can let you know what's going on under his name.

And that is: Jonathan Plens has taken a considerable lead over the last hour, bringing Sigi down to just under 300,000.  Something surely has got to give soon...

Title: Re: The EWSOP Vienna - Final Day LIVE UPDATE
Post by: AlrightJack on March 06, 2006, 01:37:09 AM
Still Jen -

As predicted, the short stack Sigi got it all in - I think the board showed a four flush, and his  Tc beat Jonathan's  5c to get him back in the game.  Only the end of the hand got announced, as even Thomas Kremser, with the stamina of a marathon runner, is looking a bit tired.

That only worked in Ancient Greece... besides, the poker gods are too fickle to be swayed by beef.  I think that hour and a half blinds are giving these players ample room to play, but they're just not using it in any decisive sort of way.

I have to say that it looks like eventually Jonathan will gain (and keep) the upper hand in one of these all-in situations, but until then, the tight play of his opponent is keeping all the chips from getting into the middle.  What DC said about Sigi Stockinger being a good player but not the sort to win top spot in tournaments looks pretty accurate, although eventually his patience might goad his younger opponent into making a mistake.  They both look a little listless under the spotlights, to be honest.

This hasn't been the thrilling of final tables.

Even Rhow suggested she streaked to liven things up.

I have a flight in about five hours, so we are going to go back and pack.  Rhow has kindly offered to text the result and any interesting detail when it emerges, and it'll be yours to contemplate fairly early tomorrow morning (or later this morning).#

Thanks everyone who kept track of our update, and to the staff of the Concord Card Casino.  And I have never had nicer, more reasonably priced food, 24 hours a day.  It has been a snowy thrill to be back in Austria; next stop Monte Carlo.

'night!

He held pocket sixes versus Jonathan Plens' A6

Rhowena looks pleased.

Damn. Is that because she doesn't have to streak now?

Guys,

This tournament is as good as over, especially now that Foxy is in the deep stuff.

I have seen Siegfried Stockinger play and he is just awesome. With a big stack he is even better.

He is the finest 7 Stud player that we have here in Austria, but he can put a terrific read on just about anybody and is rarely wrong.

It is a race for 2nd place now, I'm sad to say.

Mike

From what I've heard, it may be difficult to disagree with you on this 1.

All the homegrown players here are bigging up Stockinger and saying what a cracking player he is.

I believe he's a smashing Omaha player too.

Hi Again Peeps,

Not wishing to sound like a smart ass, but does anyone remember reading the above post on Friday afternoon???

Ahem, ahem...... I thank you.

Mike
