Title: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: I, Zimbra on March 19, 2006, 05:31:26 PM Does anyone here know if I can use the same copy of Norton Internet Security Suite on two different PCs?
Or am I legally required to buy a separate copy for each of my two computers? Thanks, Zim Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Acidmouse on March 19, 2006, 06:00:08 PM If there for your own personal use yes you should be able to put on two computers in your home. If its at work etc i dont think so.
Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: jbsc7769 on March 19, 2006, 06:00:23 PM not sure of the legit answer but I do use it on both. There was an issue with the registration so I rang them and told them that I am using my laptop instead of PC and they gave me all the details so, I guess it is ok...
Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: M3boy on March 19, 2006, 06:21:49 PM Yes u can
But one question.............. Why on earth would you want to use it ONE pc, let alone 2?!?!??!?!?!?!? ;goodvevil; ;goodvevil; ;goodvevil; Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Graham C on March 19, 2006, 06:24:29 PM technically, you aren't allowed, you only buy one licence per bit of software at a time and that allows you to run it on one pc normally - extra licences are available but no one bothers
However, like M3Boy says, why on earth would you want too :D Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Nem on March 19, 2006, 07:01:03 PM Exactly.

Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: byronkincaid on March 19, 2006, 07:58:30 PM yeah my norton's coming up to renewal time, I've heard some free software is meant to be better?
Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Graham C on March 19, 2006, 07:59:39 PM There are a few bits of free software out there that are pretty good. I use AVG for antivirus http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 and I use Sygate for a firewall but they have stopped the free one. Zone Alarms is a good on though tinyurl.com/94j59 (http://tinyurl.com/94j59) and is free still - remember to turn off the windows firewall if you are using it as you don't need two.
I can't remember the name of the other free antivirus but I know someone here does use it so I expect they will post it. Norton write good software but being the main player in a market makes you vunerable to attacks (like M$ for example) If a virus writer can break Norton then he will see that as a good thing and so the benchmark is set. The others aren't as vunerable but then you don't get as good a service if you don't pay for it I guess. For a paid antivirus, I can recommend Panda http://www.pandasoftware.co.uk/ but I still use the free AVG at home (use Panda at work for now but will switch when the subscription is up) Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Jim-D on March 19, 2006, 08:06:48 PM I use avast!, which I found through experience is much better than Nortons, Macfee and AVG. You can download avast from the link below http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tag=srch&tg=dl-20&qt=avast&search.x=34&search.y=16&search=+Go%21 once you have downloaded the software you will need to input this code. The above code is a 2 years subsription to avast! Professional, no need for you to pay any money. Also, you should use spysweeper for your spyware remover. lick the hyperlink below to begin the download process. http://sales.webroot.com/downloads/registered/links/sspsetup1_115795.exe Your key code (required for product activation): This is a 2 year subscription, so there is no need to pay for anything. Will i need to remove Norton from my system before i download the avast? Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Nem on March 19, 2006, 08:08:54 PM Yes, remove all other Anti-Virus before installing avast!
Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Bongo on March 19, 2006, 08:10:12 PM I find Norton very, very slow (at both scanning and at boot up), i'm not 100% confident in it's ability to detect everything (but it does an OK job) and i've known to create problems by itself for no apparent reason.
If you were to replace i'd leave it on your system until you are ready to install the new product (ie you have downloaded it etc), but do remove it before you actually install. I use and can highly recommend Nod32, however this is not free. Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: I, Zimbra on March 19, 2006, 08:40:40 PM Thanks tremendously for your help, I will definitely look into some of these free antivirus solutions.
I only got Norton coz it's name brand... like buying a Hoover Vacuum... I was aware that a lot of people think it's crap, but I didn't know what else to get, and I figured I'd better have something rather than nothing... (arfa loaf better than no bread, as it goes) ::) Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: LukieD on March 20, 2006, 12:29:48 AM I use Zone Alarm Security Suite which includes firewall, anti virus and spyware protection. This version including everything is not free (*cough* torrents *cough*) but you can download a free version which is just the firewall. I used to use Norton Internet Security and find Zone Alarm a lot quicker and it uses far less memory. Can't recommend it highly enough!
Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: M3boy on March 20, 2006, 02:05:47 AM Zone Alarm Pro for a firewall - cant beat it (specially when behind a router firewall aswell)
Also BEST AV program is Kaspersky Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Nem on March 20, 2006, 03:06:37 AM avast! is IMO, check it out M3Boy
Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: M3boy on March 20, 2006, 10:00:23 AM OK, my previous post may have been a "tad" strong. "THE BEST" is very um,,,,, whats the word,,,,,,,,, oh I dunno, but you get the gist.
Anyhow,,, the programs I mentioned are VERY good (if not the best) lol Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: stallyon on March 20, 2006, 11:16:23 AM "legally" you are required to buy a separate copy for each computer. NIS is a very good product if used correctly and if configured correctly is better than Zone Alarm. On saying that, no f**ker knows how to configure NIS correctly so IMO is a pile of crap. I would also go with Zone Alarm as, not only is it free but its a lot user friendly than other known products.
We dont all work for NASA so why make it rocket science? Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: I, Zimbra on March 20, 2006, 04:22:12 PM We dont all work for NASA so why make it rocket science? fair point... hence the main reason why Norton gets business from people like me - it's in the stores, it's bright and shiny. It's a load of s***? No matter, because you won't even know it's there anyway.I will definitely look into Zone Alarm for the firewall, thanks again for that. :)up Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Trace on March 21, 2006, 04:50:47 PM I just upgraded to Norton 2006 on my main PC, and it has run like a bag of shite ever since..
After reading this thread I may actually switch to something else. Title: Re: O/T - Techy Help - Norton Internet Security Post by: Ironside on March 21, 2006, 05:16:05 PM please do not post hacked serial numbers on this forum
