Title: Luton Main Event - LIVE UPDATE, DAY ONE
Post by: tikay on April 08, 2006, 12:48:22 PM
The blonde Updaters will be at Luton for the Luton Springfest Main Event, a £1,500 Freezeout, which starts at 7pm today, & 3pm tomorrow (Sunday).

This is always a cracker of a event. The 2005 Final saw Steve Bovis win it from Alan McLean, Micky Wernick (the start of his phenonomal run) & Denis O'Mahoney. The 2005 Event had 121 runners at £1,000, & the 2004 renewal had a mere 80 - mirroring the boom in Live Poker. It's a £1,500 Event this year, but I imagine 100+ will take their seats.

Updater-in-Chief-ess today will be blonde heroine djinn, aka EPT starlet & Unusual Suspects Winner Jen Mason. Her assistant will be yours truly, standing in for another blonde Hero - of sorts - , who has won a seat for this, his first ever Main Event.

We will bring you the usual stuff, quotes from the players, pics, a bit of banter, maybe a Caption Comp or two, news of some little SNG's on blonde to help pass the time, & a $50 blonde Tourney on Sunday night.

425 will be there on Sunday, too.

See you later!

Three "go sonopy" Posts already - typical blonde spirit.

The blondes were just superb in Railing Jen during her Unusual Suspects,  &, later, EPT Exploits, and I am sure they will do the same for sloppy today & tomorrow.

blonde does, from time to time, cause me the occasional headache, but it's all worth it to see the way the Members rally behind thier own. spoony has worked his socks off for blonde, especilly recently, during the Site Re-Launch, & it's so heartening to see you folks appreciate him for it.

I forgot to announce earlier - the "Home Railbirding Department" will today be led by none other than Couch-ester Kev.

This is gonna be good.

Question is, how long will the snoopster last?

Suggestions please......

And lets hear it for sopony!

Which other blondes are playing?

Don't know yet Homer, but we will let you know as soon as we can.

For sure, Team blonde will include ynoops, Red-Dog, & Monty Burns, hopefully (tyhough I'm not certain) Tighty too.

blondeites likely to be there are too many to mention or remember, but I expect to see Thewy, Camel, Smokin Steve, Bad Girl, JP, Lord Wernick, Nottingham Nick Gibson, Danny Samson, Dave Lloyd, Paul Jackson maybe, Iwan Jones, Roland De Wolfe - look, I tell you what, as soon as I get there, I will start "logging" them in, so give me a couple of hours & we will be up & running.

I am soon to set off Southbound on the M1, be in Luton around 4pm I guess, & will get set up right away.

Many thx for the prematch rah rahs.  ;cheerleader; ;cheerleader; ;cheerleader;

All highly appreciated.

Although I'm looking forward to tonight's poker festivities, I must confess to excreting the proverbial bricks. I haven't been nervous about a comp for a long long time, but those twisted stomach knots that I experienced on my first outing 4 years back seem to have made an unexpected return. I've put on 5 pounds over the last few days via an eating binge, but today I'm suffering a set-back as my appetite has gone out of the window and I find myself chewing on toast, not a sensible move for someone trying to gain weight. I think I'll just have to force something down me later on, I'm sure we've all been there.

Also, I'm definitely fighting off all those 'Don't go out early' fears which the big comps can bring, especially with tikay sacrificing his spot in the tourney to cover my updating duties. However, I realise that I have to block these concerns out. If I go out, I go out, simple as that. As long as I play well, then that's the important thing to me. If I play a stinker, then I'll be pretty pissed off with myself, mainly because these opportunities don't crop up too often for me.

Anyhow, just thought I'd say thank you for the support, it makes a big difference.  :)up

Good luck to all the other blondeites playing, card shark, booder, monty, Bad Girl, julian, b4matt, and RED-DOG in particular.  :dd:

Thank you for all those comments, especially from the sloppy Army.

I am at Luton, all set up, so the Posts will start flowing shortly.

Jen is still at home - in the shower would you believe! - but she is only a 30 minute drive away.

Before we start, a big Thank You to all at Rank, & Grosvenor Luton, especially Carmel & Gary, who have, as always, been ultra-helpful to blonde.

OK, who is here so far?.......

could you do me a favour and say hi to the lovely receptionist who I flew back from australia with (Kev O'leary's missus). I promised Kev I would look after her then managed to get myself an upgrade and she was stuck back in cattle class. She was looked after with champagne and chocolates and things though after some sweet talking to the stewardess lol.

Good luck little bro.

My words of advice, for what they are worth, from playing the event last year:

* There's a lotta play in these games, get comfy, get rid of the nerves and don't feel the need to do anything wild from the off. Its ok to loosen up early doors. so don't feel pressured. Sit back, and relax into it like you would normally.

* Your game is better than a lot of the people who'll be playing. Don't outthink yourself by being overawed. Its hardly gonna be much different to £300/£500 games.

*Make sure you grab a bit of food at the break to stock up on your energy - toast ain't gonna be enough sunshine ;) Red bull never does any harm either later on to keep that concentration going.

* Play your normal game, and play strong especially once you get a few chips.

I'll keep my eye on the updates from here - at joelle's brother's in bristol at the mo. Everyone wishes you all best, so go bring a bit of glory for blonde ;)

Fingers crossed for the snoop! I've got a damn good feeling about this one

Jamie.

Evening all - I have yet to corner the Snoopy and wish him all the good luck you guys are pouring forth, but it will happen.

First stop was to the bar to get one of those Indeterminate Fish Platters so tikay keeps his energy up...  I think all this playing has softened him up a bit, so it's back to some proper work for the Updater Original ;)

It's not as busy as you might think seeing as they're meant to be starting in 15 minutes, but there's a buzz around the satellite table at least.

New arrival - Tim Flanders
Mad Turk

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - LIVE UPDATE, DAY ONE
Post by: Djinn on April 08, 2006, 06:54:58 PM
Just to clarify - all the noise that I thought was coming from the satellite table is actually a one-hand-turnover table for £50 a pop.  RED-DOG informed me that the original idea was to do it for seats, but it caught people's imagination (that special imagination which only gamblers seem to have) and now they're just doing it, "for fun.  And £500."

The closed M1 Junction 10 is being blamed for the late start, but I just drove down it (albeit at the required 40mph) and it was OK.  Then again, I'm not one to talk about timeliness.  In fact, I'll just leave that one.

News from RED-DOG - Dave just lost half his stack at this oh-so-early stage after turning a straight, but he was up against a house... still plenty of time for recovery and then some, however.

I arrive at Table 3 to see Jim Reid ALL-IN, with Simon Nowab dwelling - then passing, & Richard Gardner-Brown having a HUGE dilemma.

This is the Flop & Turn, Jim moved in on the turn......

 6c 9s 7c 2d

Mr Gardner-Brown, incredibly, eventually passed pocket sixes, & Chubby Nowab tells me he passed the nut straight draw! And Jim, word has it, had  Th 8d for the nut straight. Phew!

Dave Colclough loses half his stack with a straight, when Brian Johnson, with 2-2 in the hole, made the full-house!

But amazingly, we have an exit, too....

...and it's bad news for blondeite Steve Read (Card-Shark) when he squares up to local Paul Vicery. Steve had the Aces, Paul had sixes, & the board, cruelly, did this.......

 3h 5s 4s Js...

and...inevitably.....

Hard for either player to get off that bugger! Steve Read OUT

Big hand for Stephen Pearce:  at least 8k in the pot when I saw him deliberating a call of Denis O'Mahoney's check-raise to 3,500 on the board:
4c 3c Tc 9h.  He eventually called.
The river: 7c.

Denis bet out 2,500.  Stephen Pearce started talking.  "I have the second nuts... if you've got it, good luck to you" and called, showing a good  Aspades Kc.  Denis down to 2k.

Speaking of the Snoopster - been a bit of a changing of the guards on his left - Now he's got Stuart Nash.  They just clashed on an A J x board where both of them turned out to be holding AJ!  Big old "go away" bet not enough to send Adam packing, though.

JP eliminates Mike Magee - -

5 8 5 the fatal board.

JP bet, Mike raised to 2k, JP all-in, call.
JP:  9d 9h
Mike Magee:  Jh Js

But the Nine on the river took out the third player of the tournament, and gave JP a worryingly healthy stack.  I don't envy the others on his table now... a hard rain's a gonna fall, as my old grandma in CA used to say...

Gone are the days when you give people a nice big chip stack and they take it easy for a few levels; things have changed, as demonstrated by Andrew Callaghan and Stavros Ioannou.  Preflop it all took off when Stavros found himself heftily re-raised all-in by Andrew.  Having left himself with just a few thousand, he made that face which always means, "Oh, I don't care any more.  Go on then," and called with his Qd Jd!
Andrew flipped the equally surprising 3d 3s
The flop: 3h Js Tc (not sure why Stavros calling for a Jack at this point)
Turn: 9s
River:  Ad

And now Andrew's comfy on 16,000.

Mad Turk is OUT - and before we could snap his photo...  He had Th 4h against Ben Grundy's Qh 6h.  With three hearts showing, you can't really blame all the money for flying in on the river.  According to Jon Raab, The Turk got up "mouthing obscenities" a little disgruntled, as you might imagine.

His oppo had  9d 6d, sloppy limps in the SB with  8d 4c - as you would - and the flop came......

 6h 7c  9s

sloppy checks, Oppo bets 200, synops calls.

Turn is  Tc

snoopster bets 400 with his straight, his opponent then, err.......moves in for 5k........!

Snoopy, being the lovely kind soul he is, decides to accomodate the massive 5k bet......

River is another Ten, & snoops is in Poker Heaven.

Very interesting hand for El Blondie, and an exit for Jeanette Baker.  With a sixway pot and 2,700 in the middle when it came round to the small blind (Jeanette), she thought for a while before putting in her 500ish remaining chips.  Two calls before it got to D.C. who then re-raised all-in for 5k or so.  Trying to get it heads up, there was a succession of dwells before he was successful (lots of thought from Steve Bovis and Brian Johnson, whom Dave put on "AQ suited").
Dave showed: 8s 8h
Jeanette showed: 3d 3c

When the flop brought the Th first card, Brian lamented passing his A 10, but then fell the 8c like a rolling stone, and the 3h on the river couldn't save Jeanette.

The raise there was a good move, but Dave was heard to remark: "I did myself out of chips!"

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - LIVE UPDATE, DAY ONE

J P Kelly, caked up already, relates this tale to me.

He had Raised with  5c 7d - naturally, & got a caller from an "internet player", as he described him.

The flop was......

 Ac Tc 2c

Internet Man makes it 500, JP bets, Internet Man calls.

Turn......

 5s

Oppo bets, JP sets Internet Man all-in.

Internet Man passes - FACE UP -  Aspades Th, for top two pair.

Now, JP has his I-pod on, & does not hear IM say "PASS", & seeing the cards face up, assumes he's been called. So now JP has to bashfully turn over the hand he'd Raised pre-flop with - officially called "a bag of spanners" & seeing top two pair, he has TWO problems - getting out of trouble, & more to the point, as he has been Raising non-stop, justifying his Raising Criteria......

But as the guy had Passed, he only has one problem now, that "image". He'll be alright, as they say.

So time for the Lionel Flaum story last told at the Luton January main event

Lionel's a lovely old man, a retired tax inspector.

In the 1950s, he being a man of a certain age, his premium bond came up. For a sum worth millions in today's money

Next month, well wouldn't you know it came up again. He gave the whole of the second lot to charity, the first win having already set himself up for life

Now lives in Hertfordshire with a lake at the bottom of the garden reputed to be the size of Lake Geneva.

You Must get a picture of Ambro Morreale, restauranteur, bon viveur and finalist in the £750

Sicilian, and someone whose game has come on a ton,was playing solely rookie nights only a few months ago

What's more he's the spitting image of a hungover Father Christmas.

Thx

11,200 for Stuart.  He is sitting where I reported Jomas Dahlbom, whom I must consider now to be OUT

Also eliminated (for sure, at this point):

Denis O'Mahoney
Jeffrey Rogers
Bad Girl
Mike Magee
Mad Turk
Marc Foggin
Brian Johnson

I'm sure you already knew a few of those, but best to be sure.

They've broken Table 10, so I'm just going to find the stragglers and make sure I know where they're located.

Thewy the heart-breaker.........

Holding  Kd Jd, he gets stubborn against Lalit Khajuria who had two beautiful Aces, & trapped our Hero a treat. Or so he thought......

Suffice to say, poor Lalit has gone OUT, in the mannner of so many folks who think they can beat Thewy with big starting hands.

He's a little tinker, he really is.

Here's a caked up Ben Grundy, he's Bellagio-Bound on Tuesday I believe.

He describes his run of cards as "unbelievable" - apparently pocket pair after pocket pair which hit those precious early sets, and then Aces three times in one orbit, all of which he slowplayed, all of which won him yet more chips.  The towers have grown since this photo - you're looking at the chip leader.  But he's all too aware of his potential to get rid of them too.  Jon Raab reminds me of one of those 'return as chip leader, out in half an hour' stunts he pulled here a while ago...

This picture of Simon Nowab sums up how he's feeling now, except he's no longer at the table...

The hurricane-like force of JP is once again responsible.  After losing some chips for a while, JP's pocket Fives hit a set on the 4c 5c Td flop.
But Simon held Tc Jc (five-way limping preflop) and there was no way he was letting that go.  No help, and JP gets a refill.

In a simple twist of fate, Julian's special light shone on Dan Samson right now - who luckily doubled up.  Here's the lowdown:

Theodore Dalton raised to 1,400, flat called by Dan Samson.  Julian on the button pondered for a while before re-raising, shaking off the original raiser, but Dan's short stack left him pot committed and he called all-in with  Ahrt Jh.
Julian showed:  Kd Ks

The board, however, came: 8h 9h 4h 8d 7h, sending Dan back to not-yet-desperate in chips.  And a slight blow for YoYo.

Good to see you back on the updating team Tikay , we missed you  :) ;) :)

Well thank YOU Charmaine! I'm having a ball, though I do find it a bit stressful now, with so many peeps coming up to chat, I'm just not that good a multi-tasker.

Has to be said, Jen & sloppy must have great mental fortitude to Update week after week. Lucky blonde, eh!

I have to say it's rather enjoyable watching tikay flap about with his laptop, after the streamlined, bossy Snoopster... and it reminds me of all the fun we had in Paris and the like, early days.  But we don't want Snoopy's help - he just has to concentrate on his game. ;cheerleader; ;bigglesdog; ;cheerleader;

"...tikay flap about with his Laptop..."

What? WHAT? I'm the coolest dude in this place, & I gotta t-shirt that says so, I'm so cool I'm Uncool.

Jen - come HERE.  NOW!

Great reporting guys,

Just to clarify my hand with STEVE Pearce.. We were involved in a hand earlier where on a flush draw he declared he had the second nut flush before he called. I had no problem with that as I had made my action and he was trying to get a read....However when we get to the river on a hand where I have two pair and the best hand possible is for him to have a nine for a gut straight he bets the river and then declares he has a straight. I ask for a ruling because while I understand moodies go I thought you could not tell your hand. The ruling was that the hand stood as he did not tell his cards. I explained that he had because to have a straight he must have a nine. I then had a situation where it was then said that he could be making it up and how could it be proved. My answer was that if i call and he has a nine then you have your answer. If he has not then i am happy because i should win with two pair.  The ruling was then given that if he does not say i have the nine of diamonds clubs etc then he is not declaring his hand.

The end result was that i passed as either way i could not win. Two hands later Mr King who i really like declares to  show how stupid this rule is that he has a red jack. Now the jack of diamonds is on the flop so we know that he is saying he has the jack of hearts. Know problem says the dealer you never said you had the jack of hearts. My god what is happening. With this rule in place we can now happily go to final tables knowing that if we have shares with any other player on the table we can tell them we have an overpair or that we have flopped trips and do a bit of chip passing. As long as we don't say which two cards...The door is now open for all the sharp practice merchants and cheaters to be rewarded for their talents....Mr Pearce should do well !!! the sharpist practicioner it has ever been my displeasure to meet.  thanks for allowing me to rant ..and continue the good work

Personally, I agree wholly with you - one's actual hole cards shouldn't be revealed for the reasons you touched on and the broader one that colluders will find this an invaluable tool.

However, Mr. Pearce did exactly the same thing at the Vic at the last festival, and the confused table asked for a ruling and were told that by opening the Moody door, they've effectively taken any and every bar off what you can say about your hand.  So he happily declared whatever he liked until his elimination, which players had to accept, whether they liked it or not.

How is "Celtic" (Vince Calenti) getting on, we are asked.

Apparently, he's running his table ragged - he somehow got Dave Colclough off AA, & when Red-Dog bet out with TT on a 9 high flop, Vince Re-Raised, forcing Red to let go. Vince then showed Bus Tickets.......

Blinds 200 - 400 "Let play commence."  I always preferred, "Shuffle up and deal," myself, but there you go.

77 players remaining (I think - my short term memory fails me as I walk from the screen to the computer).

Snoopy says I underestimated his chip count - it's actually 31,800.  Sorry, sir.

Just to get you started, a recent, but not quite up-to-the-minute photo of Bambos, Mark Bartlog (the one with the hair in the middle - remember him from Vienna?) and Ash Hussain.  But the times they are a-changing: no. 1 is OUT, no. 2 has 14k and no. 3 still struggling to get off the starting blocks.  But he's probably just biding his time.

That's Jim Reid next door, always referred to as "Jim Reid (Dublin)". Lives in Bedford. Naturally.

LOL LOL tell him i love him too xxx

With the high elimination factor at the moment, the dynamic of the tables is changing somewhat - going to try to provide the tables with accurate player and chip arrangement so you can see how it's been mixed up:

Starting with Table Blondie:

Andrew Muir     7,800
Vincent Calenti  8,200
Mark Luwe        10,400
Alan Rudge       25,000
Bhupinder Kholi  24,200
Dave Colclough  2,900
RED-DOG          24,300
R. Fronda         3,900
Ben Vinson       35,300  (and he has a yellow chip - 5k.  Ooooooh)

Snoopy just took out Barny Boatman!  He's over 40k at a guess and his AK was the winner (not sure of exactly how this happened, but it was a giant pot) - probably thought to himself, "Don't think twice, it's alright" and went for it.  No point wussing out now, Adam.

When the first card out was an Ace, he was probably relieved, but the King followed shortly, boosting Texas up to the highest level of chips he's had all night.  No wonder he's looking happy.

Stephen Pearce continues to deliberately wind-up his table, & he's doing a mighty fine job of it.

He just gave the full speech-play, then moved in, his Oppo looked deeply pained before eventually, grudgingly, passing without comment.

Stephen, on a pure bluff, then slammed his two hopeless cards down in front of the guy, & gleefully raked in the pot. He's probably a lovely chap - I dunno for sure, as he never speaks to me - but he sure does a good job of tilting up his opponents.

Tikay ....you may be right about Mr Pearce but how can anyone live like that. we all have moves and no one has a problem with that. But to to take pleasure in setting a terrible atmosphere on a table and to know that almost everyone you have dealings with ends up wanting you to get beat cannot be worth it.  Look at Yoyo he makes more moves than almost anyone I know and no one has a bad word to say about him even when he busts their aces. The difference is class. We cannot have a situation where their is no control. The game has moved on and while we need individuals we also need to have some standards. Look at yourself ..when i first met you you were a retired early seventies, dark haired individual with an ABC game.  Now you look like a man in need of a good seeing to with blonde hair, three stone lighter and more moves than the average stripper.

Well, I agree Denis, you know my views on table behaviour. But it's each to their own, & as long as he stays inside the rules - whatever they are this week - technically, he is entitled so to do.

But the parallel you draw with Thewy is excellent - Thewy busts everyone, usually with junk, but he's not got an enemy on the circuit.

How about a red dog update - is he still in or have i missed something

Here is (most of) Red's table......

Andrew Muir 10,000

Celtic 30,000

Mr Kohli 30,000

Dave Colclough - grinding away like a good one - 6k.

Red-Dog - 12,000

Mark Bartlog (Demian on PokerStars) 55,000....!

On another table.......

Danny Samson - 2,100

And finally,

snoops........ 49,800.

59 players left, blinds 300-600, ave stack 18,900 roughly.

With play scheduled to end at around 0315, the spread on players returning is, imo,  39-42.

Everything is broken down for The Milkybarkid.  Ben says, "Julian's tilted me."  Another bad beat at the hands of the YoYo?  Surely not...

But yes - he's down to under 30k after retaining the chip lead for a nice long while.  He raised under the gun with  Aspades Ac and got a caller - Julian.  The flop came 2c 4h 7d and he bet out 3,000, and called when Julian pushed for 15k or so.  Julian had a rather dominated 6h 6s (although you can't blame him for trying it) - but the 6s popped out on the turn and doubled him up.

I completely agree.  I love that about DC's game - never lets up on the concentration, knowing full well that a short stack is still a stack and I would love him to make a full comeback.  Go Captain Blondie!!

Danny Samson - OUT.

It was two short stacks vs. Snoopy - Dan made his stand with the perfectly reasonable  Ac 5c, Rob Yong followed him in with  Qh Jd, and Snoopy went for it too with, er,  Ks 3s.  It was only 2k, fair enough... but a Queen hit so Rob nearly doubled up while Dan shook hands and wandered off.

I leave you with this smiling image of the Sheriff - who's won in the last level, apparently, boosting his chips to 7,700.  He said, "Is it possible to be card dead for a whole night?  I'm smiling in that photo, you couldn't have taken it today..."

Early chip leader Ben Grundy is back down to his starting chips, after being on Tilt, just like he said.  Tim Flanders seems untouched by the storm raging next to him, while the Milkybarkid is nearly knocking on Heaven's door... hopefully the short break will have done him good.  It was hailing when I arrived - five minutes out there would cool anyone off.

Chip count for Ben 'Spikey' Vinson now please if thats no trouble

circa 82,000....!

And to his right, J P Kelly has 64,000.

I foresee a clash between these two before very long.....

Dave Clark is OUT - after Andrew Lyew raised to 900, JP called on the button, and there was some confusion as to whether Dave meant to call or min raise from the small blind as he threw in two 500 chips, they all saw a flop along with big blind Ben Vinson.

The flop: Jh Td 6c

Immediately, Dave pushed in for about 12k.  Ben passed, and so did Andrew (after a dwell) but I had a feeling JP might call, and call he did - with Qc Kd!
Dave showed:   Ad 9d

Turn: Th
River: Kc and another battlement is added all along the watchtower of JP's ever-increasing stack.

Note:  He did say in the break that he was playing tight, having sort of just noticed that he had a tendency to throw back chips at points.  This has definitely paid off as a couple of hands earlier Dave passed AJ in the small blind to JP's suspicious button bet...

El Blondie eliminated -

After doubling through again with  4c 4d against  9c 9d by hitting the set, the luck reversed, and his  Kc Qh hit the pair of Kings against someone with AQ - the Ace came on the turn to end his remarkable run back up in chips.  "Unlucky, then lucky than unlucky again."  I expected him to finish with, "That's poker!"

And here he was pre-exit - he was actually in a pretty good mood even after his comeback was cut short.  Now a short rest and then it's off to storm America at the Bellagio.  Good luck over there

Jammer - not long to go now - 11 minutes, then the obligatory half hour for final counts.

But before we start to wind down, a little taste of who's near the top of the table at the moment:

Snoopy          55,000
Luke Patten   56,500
Robert Garfield  75,000
JP Kelly            80,000
Ben Vinson     125,000

And there's another chap on JP's table with nearly 90k.  In fact, a large proportion of the chips have ended up on that table - any big pots between those guys will be REALLY big... but they've only got five minutes to bully the table with their chip-related license to kill...

Here's another interesting exit, Stuart Nash is OUT after clashing big-time with Mick Fletcher.

Stuart had the magnificent  Aspades Ahrt

Mick  Ac Ks

So, Mick was totally dominated. Or so you'd think! Board......

 Kc Qc 6c 8c 5c

Big thanks, to be serious for once, to Jen. She's just the business at these Updates. I tried bossing her about - some hope, she just ignores me. Don't really blame her.

Me? I'm wrecked, totally. Out of training at this lark, really.

Play starts at 3pm Sunday, so I'm gonna stop overnight in Luton, I just can't face that drive up the M1 only to drive back home & then set off to return midday Sunday. I left Angell plenty of food, so he'll be fine.

Come back snoops, all is forgiven! But WHAT a performance by him - & I nrever doubted he would do this in what his his first Main Event. I tell ya,there are hidden depths to Team blonde, just you wait & see.

Hi guys, apologies for making this my first ever post on your board, but I just wanted to express my thanks for your updates on this game last night, what an awesome effort! I spent a while looking around for updates and yours were by far the best I could find... I had two mates playing from my corner of the country (Bristol/Cheltenham), Matt Dale and Dan Carter, looks like they crashed during the crazy 2am(ish) section when players were falling for fun.

Anyway, top job, and good luck to Snoop and the other blondies left in for today...

On the back of finding this forum last night, I'll be sticking around. It seems like you have a large, friendly poker community here... Great! :)

Cheers
Sloggs

Thanks Sloggs & Marty H, "what Chili said". It was not our best Update - snoops is FAR better than me at this lark, he & Jen (djinn) fit like a glove - but he was "otherwise  detained", but thank you for those kind words.

Dan Carter is a young man whose game & demeanour impresses me greatly, he has a big future in Tournament Poker if he chooses to go that route. I have mentioned him several times on Poker 425, & on blonde. I don't know Matt Dale, so I can't comment on him.

We look forward to yoiu guys becoming part of the blonde Community. It's a little different to most Poker Forums - "poker with a smile, no flaming or spamming, & lets be civil to each other" sums it up. Thank you for joining, & Enjoy!

...and it's bad news for blondeite Steve Read (Card-Shark) when he squares up to local Paul Vicery. Steve had the Aces, Paul had sixes, & the board, cruelly, did this.......

 3h 5s 4s Js...

and...inevitably.....

 2d

Hard for either player to get off that bugger! Steve Read OUT

Hi all. Just reading through the updates. I remember this hand vividly as I was sitting straight to Steve's left. It's one of those hands where you think, 'Wouldn't it be ghastly if the other guy had the bigger straight?'

Anyhow, Steve limped under the gun (or trap 2 - one or the other) with his pocket aces. This Kholi fella raised, Steve reraised, and Kholi called.

Flop is pretty much as tikay reported. Steve bet out, and Kholi called. (not instantly, he definitely wasn't too keen)

The straight actually came on the turn, and that's where all the money flew in. Steve bet, Kholi reraised, etc, etc.

Hard to put his opponent on sixes after calling the flop bet, but that's the way it goes sometimes.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - LIVE UPDATE, DAY ONE
Post by: snoopy1239 on April 10, 2006, 05:27:45 AM

As I was saying, it's not good news for snoops.....OPPONENT.

This was a really odd hand.

The board was 6-7-T-9-T

The other fella overbet the flop with his second pair, and I called with my doublebelly buster thinking that if I hit I could clean him out. He seemed like a tight player so I thought he had trips or something. Anyhow, when I bet the turn, he made a bizarre all-in move for 4 or 5k (only about 1.5k in the pot) with his 2 pair and I obviously called.

Title: Re: Luton Main Event - LIVE UPDATE, DAY ONE
Post by: snoopy1239 on April 10, 2006, 05:55:30 AM
Snoopy just took out Barny Boatman!  He's over 40k at a guess and his AK was the winner (not sure of exactly how this happened, but it was a giant pot) - probably thought to himself, "Don't think twice, it's alright" and went for it.  No point wussing out now, Adam.

I thought Barny made a strange play here, especially with me still to act.

I raised preflop with A-K, Dan Carter (aka Sideshow Bob) reraises (A-Q apparantly... if we believe him), Barny flatcalled, I rereraised, Dan folded, and Barny called. (although by this time he didn't have too many chips left).

Barny -- T-9 suited

I flopped a King, Barny turned a flush draw, but hit a second ten of the wrong suit on the river.
