Title: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: thediceman on July 18, 2005, 12:13:04 PM Having just received Luton's offical programme for it's UK Open (Mon 8th Aug to Sun 14th Aug) I was interested to see that all competitions are freezeouts and that there are no rebuy comps.
Is this the first time that a British festival has been totally scheduled with just freezeout competitions and if so is it a sign of the future. I personally prefer freezeout comps but wonder what the wealthy rebuy merchants think. Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: TightEnd on July 18, 2005, 01:20:58 PM Luton is responding to demand.
At the last festival the early week rebuy tournaments had approximately 62 and 64 runners against 140 capacity. All the freezouts had over 100 runners and two were sell outs Several long term regulars made representations to the card room that they did not play the rebuy tourneys because they felt they were not competing on a level playing field. In addition a festival costs money to put on...extra staff, absence of restaurant etc...if only 65 are turning up then the loss in revenue is keenly felt, not least because there are fewer punters to drop some money on the magic roundabout etc The result is the programme you see for August As to the level playing field point, I can see it both ways Yes if I turn up for a 200 rebuy with one add on and a rebuy in reserve then I am going to have to be "conservative" whereas a sponsored pro/gambler/maniac/wealthy player can afford to have a go at hitting a draw etc. Or maybe I won't be "conservative"l and give it a spin early However if I do hit some hands and the sponsored one/maniac etc is made to pay to hit a draw and misses for example, I'm more likely to be be paid, the prize pool is inflated etc All I am saying is that it is not a black and white issue. It's a debate we've had here before and no doubt will have again For the moment, freezeouts are where it's at! Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: snoopy1239 on July 18, 2005, 01:22:16 PM I'm planning on going to this.
Do you know the offical schedule? Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: MrMoves on July 18, 2005, 01:27:03 PM I'll be there too. Much prefer freezeouts. Well done Luton.

the rest...I would guess you'd be ok on the day but really it's only a guess based off past experience. If you would be disappointed to be turned away, pre-register Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: dan on July 18, 2005, 02:03:15 PM thanks tightend. planning on playing 200 freezeout on monday so hopefuly be ok for that one still might pre register just to make sure. just one more question are there any hotels near to the casino?? thanks mate :)

*cough* *splutter* two of the better ones (not the cheapest) Leaside Hotel 01582 417463 Chiltern Hotel 01582 575911 Added advantage of the Chiltern, it's where the visiting dealers get put up. And maybe Ironside will be there too, lovely. Based on his Walsall trip, if he plays 5 events, he could be at the tables for a grand total of, ohh, nearly an hour? Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: redsimon on July 18, 2005, 04:18:08 PM Last time I went to Luton the hotel I had was fine. Cheap but clean and close to Casino. Ironside is in the Ariston class when it comes to early exits.
Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: TightEnd on July 18, 2005, 04:43:17 PM still i suppose an early exit gives you a chance to use your time better than playing for 6 hours and then hitting the bubble.
except you seem to have made progress to ridding yourself of that moniker tikay! Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: tikay on July 18, 2005, 05:00:48 PM Believe it or not, I did it again in Vegas!
We expected to finish early on the penultimate day of the WSOP, so bobby1, Jen & myself all decided to enter the $200 comp downstairs at Binions, due to start at 2am. bobby paid my entry fee, but the WSOP went on longer than anticipated, & even though you can sit down late in vegas, the deadlne was 3am, 1 hour into the comp, & the WSOP was still going. So I dashed downstairs at 3am prompt, intending to play the last hand of the first hour, thus "entitling me" to join later. I got to the table as they dealt the last hand, found KJ suited, & a raiser in front of me. As I had lost a good bit of my stack being blinded away, I RR'd the guy & he called, he had AQ, but I hit my J & doubled through. Then back upstairs to the WSOP, which finished almost immediately, & I was in the comp prooper by 3.10am, 7 tables at that stage. They paid 7 places, & I eventually exited at 0700am, in....8th place! bobby1 got 5th, but my performance was affected by the shock I got when bobby1 stole my BB then showed 6-5. Does he know who I am? Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: riverdave on July 18, 2005, 05:01:23 PM Looks like a great schedule if i can just manage to tear myself away from this $10/$20 NL game i'll be there.

Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: TightEnd on July 18, 2005, 06:47:23 PM rebuys, my advice...have a budget for each satellite and stick to it
otherwise you risk entering the thing twice! Title: Re: UK Open - home of the freezeouts Post by: redsimon on July 18, 2005, 07:07:51 PM this might be a silly question but are the satellites frezeouts or rebuys? Oops, missed that off. Rebuys for 60 minutes then an add on. |
