Title: what I did this weekend, a story
Post by: gatso on May 12, 2008, 11:54:25 PM
I started to make a list of memories from the weekend but it got so long that I realised I’d need a whole thread so here we are.

Friday, Noon. The drinking starts at St. Pancras station as I meet Claw and CIA for a little pre-train drink. If you’re gonna do the weekend properly you might as well start early.

Friday, 4 p.m. I arrive at the Holiday Inn to find the party already in full swing, the world’s smallest bar is already packed out with blondes and not a single soft drink in sight. As myself and Shogun are checking in the receptionist starts quizzing us, it seems they’re very worried as they have poker players in pretty much every room and their cleaners come in early to start work. They can’t work out when they’re going to get to clean the rooms with us all in bed ‘til late so we put her mind at rest by lying and tell her we’ll all be out by 10.

Over the next few hours the blonde contingent led by Laxie and the Duke proceed to drink the hotel bar  dry until it’s time to head into town; both the kids and the grown ups are starting the night in Chambers karaoke bar, all we have to do is get into town, a simple task you’d imagine. For normal people maybe, for pissed up fools no.

It all seemed so easy at first, a hotel employee told us our taxi was ready which was pretty sweet seeing as we hadn’t ordered one so myself, Kingpoker, the Duke and Kinboshi strolled out to get it. Kin tells me to get in the front and tell them where we’re going but there’s a problem, the door’s locked and there’s no driver. What do you do in this situation? Easy, you tell KP who’d not noticed that he should get in the front and then laugh at him when the door doesn’t open. Once we’d finished laughing at him weren’t sure what to do next, the favourite option was to call the taxi firm and explain to them that when we asked for a cab we’d assumed they’d send a driver too but our slurred thought processes were interrupted by the arrival of taxi no. 2. We tried to get in this one but the driver insisted we had to tell him which room it was ordered for. ’27, 8, 312, 200’ we tried all the numbers we knew but didn’t hit on the right one, in the middle of this a lady walks out of reception and asks ‘are you room 114?’. ‘Yes’ we reply in Unison’. ‘I’ve been waiting inside for 10 minutes’ she says and walks towards the locked car. We finally have wheels; the real occupants of room 114 can walk.

PMSL, It was pure comedy the way we all replied "Yes" in unison to the "Are you from room 114?" question!

Lisa is the best taxi driver you could hope for unless you actually want to go somewhere specific. The early conversation went something like this-

Us- Chambers please
Lisa- Where’s that
Us-Don’t know, you’re the taxi driver
L-Only for 5 weeks though, I don’t know where anything is
Us-Quick, can you run that bloke over
Lisa now veers towards monkey Matt who’s walking through the car park, she misses but stops close enough for us to ask if he knows where the club is. He does have the postcode but as Lisa has no satnav we’re still kinda stuck so we go to the radio.

Lisa- Can you tell me where Chambers is?
Radio-Opposite the Park Plaza hotel
Lisa-Where’s the Park Plaza hotel?
Us-Opposite Chambers

It’s obvious we’re not getting anywhere so we decide to just go to Maid Marion way and find our own way from there. The journey consisted of pure drunken comedy with invites to Lisa’s house (these may or may not have come from Lisa herself), Duke hanging out the window shouting at anyone within earshot, photos being taken of random strangers is passing cars. We parked up on Maid Marion way with KP giggling as he’d just seen a shop called ‘coming’ while at the same time fuming as (story going non PC from here warning) a dwarf had just gone past on an electric bike and he hadn’t got a photo. I can’t remember who said it first but the cry went up, ‘let’s go round again’, At first Lisa wasn’t sure we were serious but when she realised no-one was getting out we set off on a tour of the city centre with 2 objectives 1) to photograph a dwarf and 2) to see the ‘coming’ shop.

So off we went on our tour of Nottingham, Duke once again hanging out of the window abusing passers-by and everyone else giggling away. As we started to go the other way down Maid Marion Way the 2nd taxi from the hotel pulled alongside and, assuming we were lost, shouted across at Lisa to tell her where Chambers was. ‘They just want me to drive around’ she replied leaving taximan2 looking very confused. This is him taken from our speeding vehicle.

A rather odd one-way system meant it took us longer than expected to loop round the city and a cry of ‘she’s gone down there’ linked to Lisa pointing down an ally told us we’d missed the photo opportunity, the electric bike had been just too quick for us, the hunt was over, our quarry had escaped.
All that was left to do was find the ‘coming’ shop, park up and find Chambers.

The shop looked something like this only less blurry.

And luckily it was right by Chambers; time for karaoke

Here’s a pic of the lovely Lisa posing with the lovely KP

Chambers must be a nice place to have a quiet drink on a normal Friday night but the 17 locals who turned up to do just that this week must’ve got quite a shock as half of blonde descended on the place and proceeded to drink dry their second bar of the night. A cracking night was had all round and we saw some great and some not so great performances, unfortunately technical problems mean I can’t put the videos up at the moment but we’ll sort that out at some point.
A little tip for you all. If you’re ever short of money all you have to do is go out drinking with NumptyITB, wait for him to get drunk and then tell him he owes you £20. No questions asked, he goes straight to his pocket and hands over the cash.

Here’s the note just before it was spent on a round of shots.

Other highlights of the night included Kinboshi comically falling off his chair

Please god, I pray that those videos never leave Gatso's camera.

I hope these prayers are answered, and I am sure everyone else on blonde will join me in hoping that they dont have to endure my "common People" performance, or kinboshis camp finger dance to Ironstein & my rendition of Kenny Rogers "Gambler"

it wasnt big, it wasnt clever, and it certainly wasnt pretty !

So karaoke over it was time to jump into another taxi, only took me 2 mins to get told off. After this pic was taken I was banned from anymore flash photography as the poor driver thought he’d set off a speed camera.

I’m not sure what happened in the front of that cab on the short journey to DTD but as we were all getting out Julie asked whether we wanted to see the pictures. On the front seat was a laptop and for some reason Julie had signed the driver up as a friend on Facebook so she could show him pics of her bits.
Were we ever going to have a normal car journey this weekend?

Spent a couple of comedy hours in DTD, watched Leknave and Dunk betting on valets’ ages and indeed Jen’s age and lost a proper blonde sng (spilled pints, a couple of substitutions etc.) heads up to Junglecat. Then far too soon it was time to head back for a couple of hours kip before the football.

Saturday morning saw comedy car journey no. 3. We headed off in KP’s car following monkey Matt to the football which we thought was next to DTD. Unfortunately that’s not where it was. Neither did it appear to be in any other part of Nottingham and I’m pretty sure we covered most of the city. Every now and again we’d see another car load of blondes drive past us looking for the same place, the whole forum was lost. At one point we stopped in an industrial estate for Matt to ask directions thinking it was only us, Matt and Rookie but it turned out we had a whole convoy behind us, comedy video to follow.
After about 45 minutes we finally completed the 5 minute trip and the footy got underway. I have nothing to say on the actual tournament as we lost so it’s best forgotten but I do have to put up my favourite pic of the day. For those of you that remember the strop Sunday8pm threw when told he couldn’t wear moulded studs, this photo is of a poster in the changing rooms telling people what can be worn.

Ben went on major life tilt when I showed him this later in the day.

So on to the main event, I didn’t last too long but the time I was in was good fun sat between Bongo and Rod Paradise. We picked a standard raise for each level and insisted that people could only raise that amount, a couple of people did try different amounts but we soon sorted them out with subtle abuse. We also had to show at least one card if we took down a pot without a showdown to prove to Rod that we didn’t have 2-7 as he’d threatened that anyone taking down a pot with that hand would have to put their privates on the edge of the table so he could hit them with a pool cue or at least that’s how me and Bongo read the situation.
I think the alcohol must’ve kicked back in at some point as I have no memory of when or how I busted out of the tourney, all I know is I lasted longer than Trigg and I was on the cash tables quite early.

The £50 tournament was next up, I didn’t take my seat until level 2 as I was busy in the bar. When I went to take my seat there was someone already there who shouldn’t be. I’m so grateful for his mistake as I was sent to what should have been his seat instead on a table with Nakor on my left, Diceman on my right and Dingdell to his right and was set for the funniest time I’ve ever had at a poker table.

First hand I play I flop jacks full and get paid on every street, lovely stuff so I can relax a bit now.

Dingdell’s in every pot against a lady at the other end of the table, they’re both in the same masterclass with Paul Jackson and Tracey is telling us how they know each other’s moves because of that. Obviously we latch onto this and her every move is now met with the question ‘did Paul tell you to do that?’.  It gets a bit ridic when we move onto ‘did Paul tell you to get that salad?’ and other similar questions. We then moved onto ‘what does Paul know anyway? What’s he famous for? He once lost a pot against Phil Ivey right? And that’s all he’s famous for?’.

Right in the middle of this our future new best friend sat down at the other end of the table. Here he is.

Pretty much as soon as he’s sat down we all get chatting and he tells us how he’s a Mackem and hates Geordies.
Ding now leans over and whispers ‘is that Gazza?’.
Once we’d picked ourselves up off the floor we explained that apart from the fact he didn’t particularly sound like him, looked nothing like him and was a Mackem it was highly unlikely Gazza would be here as he’d just been sectioned. Tracey has a quick think about this before saying ‘like that British boxer Bruce Willis?’.
We’re now all in hysterics, tears streaming down faces but it didn’t stop there. We had to explain to Trace about Mackems and Geordies and how they hate each other, ‘oh, is it like the Roses and the Capulets?’ she asked.
I think it was at about this point that the dealer had to call the floor as half the table was incapable of playing due to laughing too much.
Tracey still not really getting the whole Mackem thing now told us that her favourite Macca was Paul McCartney.
The killer was yet to come though. She leant over to Diceman and whispered ‘I think I’ve made a mistake, I meant Steve Davis’.

Ding now leans over and whispers ‘is that Gazza?’.
Once we’d picked ourselves up off the floor we explained that apart from the fact he didn’t particularly sound like him, looked nothing like him

He does look a bit like Gazza and with the geordie accent he could easily have been him (had he not been in hospital). But I think where i went wrong was that he looked like Gazza a few years ago and obv since he's not been in the papers much I haven't really kept up with how he's looking now.

it was highly unlikely Gazza would be here as he’d just been sectioned. Tracey has a quick think about this before saying ‘like that British boxer Bruce Willis?’.

I have a way of parallel thinking sometimes - I jump ahead of myself or something like that - anyway I wanted to say Frank bruno (I could see him in my mind) but got to the surname first and started saying Br....as if to say bruno and it came out bruce willis.

I was trying to decide whether to suggest it was similar to the war of the roses or the montagues and capulets but put them together....I knew there had been a war and the geordies were involved and it sort of worked....

Tracey still not really getting the whole Mackem thing now told us that her favourite Macca was Paul McCartney.

I really didn't get that Mackem thing - I still don't have a clue what it is - I thought you were all saying macca which I found confusing because I couldn't see how gazza could be called macca but I thought maybe it was a football thing. But as we were discussing who liked and dislikes which Macca I thought I'd put forward my favourite macca - the beatle Paul McCartney. i was just trying to make a contribution to the conversation  :dontask:

The killer was yet to come though. She leant over to Diceman and whispered ‘I think I’ve made a mistake, I meant Steve Davis’.

yep - that was embarrasing - it was his geordie accent that confused me - he sounded like Gazza but looked like Steve davies and even he confirmed that he was often confused for steve davies. But when he did that thing with hsi eyes he looked a lot like Gazza too so if Gazza's dad had had a bike it was possible.

I knew everystep of the way what i was thinking - it just didn't seem to come out the way it was intended. Good fun though  :D

Tracey was right on one thing

the war that involved the Geordies was when Hadrian Heath was up there on that long march from Liverpool in 3AD, hence the wall being named after him.

I'm loving Tracey's replies. Pure comedy genius. Especially the bit about "I knew there had been a war and the geordies were involved and it sort of worked....". I had the pleasure of several hours listening to her random and very bizarre thoughts.

It started with Tracey quietly asking me about a new guy joining our table "is that Gazza" and I was so shocked by the question, on account of the points Gatso has highlighted, 1. he looked nothing like him, 2. he had already stated he hated Geordies and was a Makum and 3. Gazza is currently locked up therefore unlikely to be sat at a £50 poker comp at DT (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/index.php?affiliate=blonde)D (http://www.dusktilldawnpoker.com/index.php?affiliate=blonde) that I couldn't help but tell Nakor and Gatso what Tracey had just said. From that point things just steam-rolled from there. What made it funnier was that Tracey's continual instance, for the next two hours, that she couldn't believe that none of us could see that the guy did look like Gazza and suggest we were all mad. For her to later say "I've made a mistake, I meant Steve Davies" was the crowning moment of what was the funniest time I've ever had at a poker table. As part of Tracey's continual instance that we were in the wrong I started asking random blondes walking past who the guy at the other end of the table was. Tracey would then say, "who does he look like". If only it was a case of who he looked like would be embarrassing enough but she specifically said to me "is that Gazza" was just to much. As for the result of asking random blondes who that man was, none guessed either Gazza or Steve Davies but all ending up laughting once I said Traceys thought it was Gazza then subsequently Steve Davies.

As for Bruce Willis, the former Britsh heavyweight boxer, Macca being your favourite Makum and the later cash game I am praying that I get to sit next to you at the next bash.

I tried so hard not to leave Table Dell, I passed up quite a few opportunities to shove my shortstack in, the table was just so much fun I didn’t want to get knocked out but eventually I succumbed and it was off to the bar for a couple of hours.

So much went on in that time but we’re going to start the story from the point in time that Leknave’s photoshop was taken http://blondepoker.com/forum/index.php?topic=33637.0.
Ben (Sunday8pm) was completely busto at this point and deciding whether to flip for his shirt or his watch as Flushy had already decided he didn’t want the shoes. In the end it was agreed that his cigarettes could come into play, he had 14 and was allowed to keep 1, the remaining 13 would be put up against Flushy’s fiver. He didn’t want to watch but called heads as he ran to the smoking area. It came down heads so he returned to see his fag packet with a £5 chip sat on top, no-one was in any doubt as to who’d won as a resounding oiiiii-oiiiiiiii echoed around the club.
He was straight to the bar for a pint of Strongbow and the £2 change went on a horse which unbelievably came in at evens, but no, wait, stewards enquiry. Somehow despite his horse getting dqed he manages to get paid out early and is seen doing a victory jig around the bar. The £4 doesn’t last long though and he’s soon busto again.

Not wanting to gamble the ciggies again he has a suggestion for Chiprich, ‘let’s flip for 2p but if you win I’ll have to owe you’. Ben gives me 50% of the action, the coin’s flipped and it comes in heads again, oiii oiii, ship the 1p each, Ben’s back in the game.

He now needs to spin the penny up so bets me that he can put his whole roll in Rich’s hair and it’ll stay there for 20 seconds, unfortunately Rich notices him putting it in, I get another penny and Ben is potless once again.

why oh why do none of us ever have satnav? here we see half the forum trying to find the football pitch saturday a.m. surprisingly it wasn't located in the middle of this industrial estate.

for anyone who hasn't seen Rookie's car before, can you pick it out from this lineup?

Neither can I apart from the dealer (very young, sweet and innocent when we started) who was bemused when you boys started making up your own rules/betting on the colour of the flop etc etc. But there was a theme - and I can't remember what it was.

I have never laughed so much in two days.

I believe you justified some ridic bet sizing at one point by saying it would be ok if it was in dollars

there was also a most bizarre hand which we both played blind up to, I think, the turn. when you looked at your cards you found you'd flopped a straight but I still managed to bet you off it as you thought I might have the bigger straight despite still playing blind

Oh yes - exchange rate poker ftw imo.

And as for the bigger straight winning - it would have won had you had it. So my fold was justified. This is why I am welcomed at the tables.......
