Title: ISPT Wembley Day2a
Post by: TightEnd on May 31, 2013, 10:09:39 AM
The big day is here

Two years from conception, and for DTD 12 weeks of a huge logistical project and associatied promotion, and we are finally at Wembley

"Just a few months ago the smart-money would have been on the International Stadiums Poker Tour (ISPT) to be a dismal failure, if not cancelled entirely. But a funny thing happened in the past couple of months, beginning with the addition of the Dusk Till Dawn Poker Club who dramatically cleaned-up the ISPT marketing campaign beginning with a €1,000,000 guarantee for the winner of the tournament. With the new guarantee, and the excellent reputation of Dusk Till Dawn, ISPT Day 1’s (which took place across several online poker sites) suddenly started receiving interest and more importantly players."

With a final day one tonight, the live satellite at 5pm and direct buy ins still to come, there are according to Simon Trumper about 520 players in to date

http://pokerdb.thehendonmob.com/ispt/

Of course the likelihood is of a big overlay, but when you see the pictures I am about to put up you'll realise that what has been achived logistically in 12 weeks, from a standing start, is quite amazing

Whatever the final number of runners, and whatever the overlay, DTD has something to be proud of in my opinion

So the Media Centre is half way up this enormous stadium

The view as you exit the door is as follows

There are seven "rooms" in a pop up poker village. It's igloo vision.

In the middle of shot on the pitch you can see Simon Trumper. Checking every last detail.

Each of the rooms are named after an iconic footballer. That was my idea by the way.

Unfortunately we are an updater down as Caroline can't make it which is a great shame, as no one is safe with Caroline's pen around.....least of all the players!

but Adam and I will pick things up at midday

If you can tweet, facebook etc the link to these updates that would be gratefully appreciated

I'd like to make the next six days something special for the updates on here, and the more people that view them, sign up to the site etc the better.

Now of course you can still get in to the event (I think I will be dreaming about posting about ways to qualify into the ISPT for weeks to come!)

Last ways to get into the ISPT:

1) Online feeders & satellites today at dusktilldawnpoker.com..the final Online Day1 is 8.30pm

 2) Live satellite at Wembley Stadium tonight 5pm £2001r1a 20 Seats GTD

 3) Buyin direct for €3000 at ISPT Wembley

Of course....€1M GTD to the Winner

As you can imagine, with the average stack being 300bbs and 1 hour levels, it can be described as rather slow going out there.

I cannot confirm or deny that one person has said it will be like "wading through treacle" today :)

However, Barny Boatman has started off like a rocket, I caught a hand where he was mulling a raise after Xavier Besnier bet 1100 on a 2d 9d 7d flop, with Andrew Olssen calling. Boatman did raise to 6100 and Besnier quickly mucked his hand. Olssen wasn't to be beaten though, and called.

The turn was the 7c and Olssen pretty quickly check-called another 5k from the Hendon Mobber. The river was the Th and Olssen again checked. Boatman went into the tank and eventually bet approximately 17k. I say approximately because Boatman bet all his lower denominational chips, leaving himself one orange 25k chip in reserve. Olssen just smiled ruefully and folded his hand.

The downside for all the players who appear to have bought in direct today is that as they bought in after the seat draw, they are all getting sat together.

Jamie Sykes has therefore found himself with Jamie Burland on his direct left. I'll be keeping an eye on their table for fireworks, even with 300bb stacks to start!

Spotted David Benyamine with a massage girl working away on him.

Mr Benyamine has the image of a French gentleman to pat. The top 2 buttons of the shirt are open, exposing a chest I, quite frankly, don't want to see, and every move is accompanied with a Gallic shrug or pout.

However, he was forced to fold on a Kh 7s 5c Ahrt board to a 3350 bet from Erik Wigg after Benyamine had bet/called Wigg's raise to 2150 from 825 on the flop.

Trigg just took a nice pot from Michael Mizrachi as well, so I assume that explains the facial expressions.

I only saw the river, but Trigg value bet 8k on a 8h 5s 3c 7d Jc board with a set of 5's, and Mizrachi called before mucking with that grimace on his face.

We're hitting the break after two levels

376 in and counting

Quite a challenge this, as the media centre is half way up and a decent enough round trip to the action.

Oh for hand held devices, but we'll sort out a system to report a bit quicker soon enough

Laurence "rivermanl" Houghton is out and is buying back in tomorrow.

He had qualified with a micro stack (15k) which was still 75bbs but arrived late and blinded down to about 10k before shoving it all in preflop with A-J and getting called by Q-9 of Marios Photiou. Marios hit a 9 on the river to send Laurence to the cash desk.

Simon Brooks held Ac 3d and was good when they both checked the river.

Rupinder Bedi 3 bets to 2200 over an open to 900 at 150-300

The big blind flats

The opener shoves 30,000

Call by Rupinder

Fold by the big blind

Opener A-K

Rupinder K-K

7-J-8-4 three spades, and Rupinder has the King of Spades

7 river

Rupinder knocks one out. Now over 90,000 and getting on for double average

The correct number of players in so far today is 313.

The previous figure had 80 of tomorrow's in, I gather. Don't know why, but much crouching over laptops resulted in the correct revised figure

Very very high powered 313 field though just look at some of the pics coming next...

Matt Dale (he of APAT and Bristol Poker Meetup fame) just knocked out a short (for this comp) stacked Duncan McClellan.

Matt opened A-Ko UTG to 650 and it folded to Duncan in the SB who 3-bet to 1800. BB Nick Wright got out of the way and Dale 4-bet to 6000. Duncan called and then open-shoved all n on the 7-8-K board. Matt, naturally, called and Duncan had K-J, which did not hit and puts Matt back up to the heady heights of, err, 90k.

Christopher Frank made it 800 UTG+1, although there were queries as to whether he could see as he was sporting sunglasses that had the WEMPLAY logo on them. I'm gonna guess that he was playing pretty active as he got 3 callers, James Roberts from MP, Nouar Sidi Mohamed from the SB and Rob Woodcock from the BB.

They all checked the flop and turn on a 9h 5h 6c 8s 8h board, and Nouar led for 1k on the river. Rob folded and Chris quickly raised to 8k. James also passed and Nouar tanked before just flat calling - only to see Chris show Ahrt Kh for the nut flush.

Right back to the front line

I am hoping the player list will be on DTD's site later.

I'd say there is a pretty encouraging turn out of Direct Buy ins today, with some of the biggest European names in attendance. Obviously tomorrow will be a bigger field too so not all doom and gloom.

Just imagine what DTD could have done with this with a six month head start.....

If you have any requests about people you know are playing and we haven't covered yet please shout. Taking mobiles down to the tournament so will check thread there.

Michael Mizrachi has doubled through Andrew Larwood.

I got there to see Mizrachi all in and called holding Ahrt Tc on a Qh As 4s 3h Th board. Larwood had mucked but Trigg (sat 2 to Mizrachi's left) told me that Larwood had been holding A-J and Mizrachi got lucky on the river.

The Grinder has ground his stack back up to 40k.

Secondly, I can't hear him any more.

Chris Brammer is out

He takes up the story

"I value bet the worst hand on three streets to get down to 25,000

I then got moved table and saw the player directly to my left cold four Q-J off and get there against Kings

He then kept three betting me

I then found Jacks and he three bet me again. I shoved and this time he had Aces"

I asked Chris if he was back tomorrow (I should be on commission) but he replied that he is resting up ahead of flying to Vegas on Monday.

This will be his year, mark my bracelet predicting words

Meanwhile Andre Filipe Matias Vielas (Andre for short) who may or may not be European

raises UTG to 1250 at 200-400

Michael Mizrachi makes it 3000 in mid position

Andre 6225

Mizrachi calls with about 20,000 behind

2s 9c 8h

Andre moves in for 40,000

Mizrachi is covered and calls

My pen is poised to write down two monsters. A crowd emerges out of nowhere. TV Cameras, bloggers. Nearby a masseuse starts crying as the prospect of losing a months wages of £20 per 20 minutes potentially disappears before her eyes

Mizrachi shows  Kh 9s

Andre the Giant  Qd Qc

turn  8d

a faint sob from assorted media.

river  4h

Mizrachi is out. Thats why he is called the Grinder I suppose

As I pass him on about the half way line, I ask him

"back tomorrow Michael?"

In a voice half Tony Soprano and half Al Pacino and shamefacedly nicking a catchphrase he replies

"Yes I'll be back"

Boba Fett is down to about 85k - lots of small pots not going his way but I did see a hand where he called 2800 on a 3s 3d 9c flop from Julien Monfort, then called 3400 on the 5d turn before folding to a 6025 bet on the Ac river.

Monfort then cheekily showed 6c 4h for a missed straight draw and 6 high. Ouch.

Blinds are 250/500-50a.

The board shows 268 players left with an average stack of 60k. 325 people are on the entry list for today and even if you live in Nottingham, late registration closes in about 5 hours so if you do find that missing €3000 down the back of the sofa/in the wife's purse (insert your own joke there), then feel free to come and join us!

Or, if you are under it/live in Scotland/are in Vegas etc, stay with us as we do our best not to die going up and down those stairs, I'm shattered to get all the action here at Wembley.

Rick Trigg raises to 1100

Andre from earlier 2500 on the button

A Trigg eyebrow raises. He mutters to himself

"I don't think a raise of mine has got through yet"

In the big blind Jean Lacerda calls the 2500

Trigg calls

 Ad 5h Jc

Check

Trigg 1,000

Andre calls quickly

Lacerda flicks it in, nonchalantly

 6c

checked round

3c

Lacerda 4325 lead

Trigg makes a confused face and ponders

He eventually folds

Before his cards hit the muck Andre calls and flips  6d 4s

Trigg chuckles

Lacerda "I 'ave nothing" (French accent for those of you wanting realism) and flips  Kc Qh

Trigg chuckles again

DeKorver stifles a laugh

Trigg catches my eye "Yes Yes Yes I passed the jack"

Trigg says to Lacerda "You were unlucky there, I almost certainly pass his hand there"

I sense he has a reasonable table

Behind Juan in that picture above you can see Leigh Wiltshire pondering a raise preflop.

He makes it 1600 and gets one caller in Barrie Price from the BB. The flop is 4c Qd Jd and Barrie donk-bet 3200. Leigh tanked before making it 9000 to go, only to find Barrie immediately reaching back for chips. He quickly made it 28,200 and Leigh grimaced as he tank-folded.

Every time I walk past Boba Fett's table he is sat there watching the world go by in a hand.

An interesting one he was involved in, partially, saw him calling a bet of 2800 from Yung Hon Ngan and then seeing Kamal Choraria also call on a flop of 9c 2s 8c. The turn was the 8h and Kamal checked. Yung bet 4100 and Paul passed, but Kamal called. The river was the 5d and Kamal led for 12,000. The bet visibly perplexed Yung, who went into the tank and nearly folded 3 times before resignedly chucking the call in, only to be shown the monster 8d 2d for the house by Kamal.

Joe Beevers has just fallen at the hands of the chip leader, Juan Alban.

Alban raised preflop and Giuseppe Zarbo called. Beevers 3-bet to 2600 and both players called.

The flop was 9c 5c 2s and it was checked to the Hendon Mob stalwart, who bet 3600. Alban just called and Zarbo followed him to the turn, which was Ks. It was again checked to Joe, who pushed all in for his remaining 13,500. Alban called and this was enough for Zarbo to release his hand.

Joe had two black Aces (Aspades Ac) but Alban had 5s 5h for the flopped set, leaving Joe two outs on the river. Neither materialised on the 8h river and we are one Hendon Mob member down, leaving the Boatman brothers to fly the flag.

We are just about to go on an hours dinner break. 250 of 330 are left, blinds go 400-800 next with average 65,000

Juan Alban is still the chip leader with 350,000

The players in "Flutes" Restaurant are being treated to a menu prepared by 12 chefs

Sounds promising

I might pop down to Tesco Express by the Arena

Sounds a bit less promising

Leigh "chipaccrual" Wiltshire is up to approximately 130k after 2 hands in succession.

The first hand he opened to 1600 and got 3 callers in Jamie Burland, Barrie Price and an unknown Mateyboy (we are waiting for the updated player list). The flop came down 3c 6d 7d and it was checked to Price, who bet 4600. Mateyboy accidentally folded A-K face up and it went back to Leigh, who raised to 16.5k. This was enough for everyone else to fold.

A couple of hands later, Leigh and another unknown Mateyboy were heads up on a 8d Tc Ac board. Mateyboy check called 2600 on the flop and then check called 6200 on the Js turn. 12.5k on the 7h river from Leigh was enough to get Mateyboy to pass.

James Keys (who has inexplicably escaped my radar until now) raised to 1700 UTG only to get 3 bet to 3100 by Mikolaj Zawadzki. Matt Dale then flatted the 3-bet and it folded back to Keys who also called.

They saw a Kh 2d 8h and Keys checked. Zawadzki bet 2800 and Matt called. Keys passed and we went heads up to the Jh turn. Both players checked  and the Th appeared on the river. Mikolaj checked and Matt quickly bet 3500. Mikolaj then leaned forwarded with his hands covering his cards, intently watching a stoic Mr Dale, but he must have saw something to make him think that Matt was weak as he drew back after about 20 seconds and called.

Matt calmly turned over Qh Qs for the second nuts, and Zawadzki mucked.

Tony G has wasted little time in getting into the action. He called a raise from an UTG Mat Frankland preflop, only to be followed by Leigh Wiltshire and Barrie Price. 4 handed, the flop came down 8h 7h Qs and all 4 checked. Tony bet 5k on the 4c turn and got one caller in Barrie, and Barrie then check-called 7k on the 8c river.

Tony had Kh Js for a bluff and Barrie's 7c 3c was good. Tony may have lost a pot or two but so far it's been pretty quiet and well-spirited over on Table 31...

Much like when you go to see a floodlit football match live, there is something different about the atmosphere now the lights are on

I like it. Inside the pods there are no lights but the floodlights provide extra light through the white roof and playing conditions are unchanged. Very clever to see

James Keys is no longer with us.

He had blinded down to 11k at 500/1000, in his own words "all I did was fold all day", and when he found Ks Jh in the hijack he just open-shoved.

Unfortunately for him, 2008 WSOP Main Event Winner Peter Eastgate was sat with 15k in the BB, and tanked before calling the all in for what felt like his tournament life, as he would only have 4k left should he be wrong.

He had Ac 3h.

Keys was surprised to see the call and despite the sweat on the Ahrt 5s 7h Tc turn, there was no help on the 4s river and James is headed back to Nottingham.

I think I will photograph her tomorrow too

Rene Xie was stopped by some French woman for a photograph, think she confused her with Liz Lieu, easy mistake as they both have disproportionate chip racks :)

Near the end of Level 8 and the final break of the night

blinds 600-1200 is the last level

213 of 319 are left

average 70,100

some chip counts

Leigh Wiltshire 260,000. He's looking smug.

Rick Trigg, sharing a table with Barnmy Boatman over 100,000

Rupinder Bedi sharing a table with James Mitchell and De Korver looks to have 85-90,000

Tom Middleton 75,000

Jamie Burland 60,000

Sam Trickett 60,000 Been wandering round his table all day and he's not played a hand I have seen!

Dean Lyall 75,000. Dean drove down from Scotland today, and is driving back tonight for a family do tomorrow. Poker players, common sense, absolutely none. Rearrange the phrase!

Paul McTaggart 105,000

Richard Blacklock 55,000

Ramzi Jelassi 65,000

Michael Turenic 65,000

Boris Becker 60,000

Matt Frankland 50,000

Matt Dale 55,000

Ross Boatman 120,000

JP Kelly 40,000

Nik Persuad 50,000

chip leaders still look to be Juan Alban with over 350,000, Johannes Toebe with 300,000

Barry Neville's hand

He called a raise with  Qh 9h playing just under 100,000

He takes up the story

"so it comes Queen 'igh two 'earts Tighty. an e leads inno me. Well Tighty I shove it back oop 'im and he then shoves on me. Well Tighty I am havin' none of t'at. I call. He has a set I says he has a set Tighty. A bloody set. So I need to 'it ma flush Tighty. Only 'e 'its Quads. 200,000 pot Tighty and he has loads Tighty"

Got that?

The funny thing is he told me the same story......such a bad beat....but hopefully he will see your comments funny one day....as I just did reading it lol

319 today. They really really really want to get to 1,000 total

600-700 tomorrow? Probably not but I would love to think they'd get close. They deserve it

I am pretty sure that with a few more months run up and without what went before DTD got on board, and without a vegas clash....

thats three big differences I suppose!

.........

that they would have got very close to the guarantee....

so thats a frustration, yet a sense that the concept is an interesting one, and something very different for players

Amy Trodd is nearly back to her starting stack today (about 60k) after I joined a hand on the turn of a 9h 8h 5h Qd board, where she called a 5k bet into an 11k pot from Sebastien Cadenel. They both checked the 8c river and Trodd's Qh Kd was good.

We have one less WSOP Main Event winner left in the tournament after Peter Eastgate bust when he shoved 25k on the turn of a Kd 9h Jc 7c board over a 6600 bet from another Mateyboy (my seating chart says James Keys, it definitely isnt him!). Mateyboy called off with Kc Qc and binked the 3c river to send Eastgate back home.

Ben Vinson is out, just before the break

I caught up with him

"There you are, how did you go out?"

"I don't really want to say"

"Oh go on, your brother would love to know"

"I don't really want to say"

"OK Never mind"

"Do I have to?"

"Well I am not forcing you, but if its good...."

"I turned my hand into a bluff"

"Sounds interesting Ben..."

"Do I have to tell you?"

I mean, I should have been a hostage negotiator, it would have been easier

"Well I had KQcc and I opened to 2200"

the floodgates have opened and I can barely write fast enough

"The button calls. It comes  Aspades Ks 7c. I make it 3000. He calls"

He pauses, momentarily reflective

"The turn comes Ac, so I have the nut flush draw. I check, He bets 5700, I call"

"The river bricks for me but completes the other flush 8s and I check, He makes it 17800"

"I move in for 59000. He is a decent player. He can't have A-K, no 3 bet pre, so I think I can make him pass. I can have the flush...."

His voice trails off and I wait patiently

"So he thinks and thinks and then after five minutes calls with A-Q. I couldn't make him pass"

and all because his brother asked a question on a forum, you get the story...

ALERT! ALERT!

I arrived at table Trigg to see him raise UTG to 2600. Jean Giannotti (again, apologies if these names are wrong, but I am going off the latest player list that we have been sent) called only for Toby Lewis in seat 3 to make it 8500. It folded round to another anonymous Mateyboy in seat 6 who cold 4-bet to 26500. Trigg and Giannotti got out of the way and Lewis just called.

The flop was 5s 9s 8c and Toby led for 16,800. This was quickly met with an all in from his opponent for 75,000 total and Toby called pretty quickly, showing Ks Kh. Unfortunately for Toby, it was a classic cooler situation with Mateyboy holding Aspades Ac, meaning Toby only had 2 outs as the backdoor flushes were covered. Neither of those 2 outs appeared on the Jd turn and 7s river, sending the 210k pot in the direction of Mateyboy and leaving Toby with not very much left.

Chris Bruce exited just before the end of the day - he ran 2-2 into J-J on a T T 3 Q 4 board.

Tom Middleton lost a chunk when he got it all in on a 9s Qd 5s flop with Giuseppe Zarbo. Middy had Aspades Ts for the nut flush draw and Zarbo had Kc Kh for the overpair. The overpair held on the 5d turn and 6c river.

I played the last sat at there today and was so taken impressed by what they've done.

I really do believe that if Rob, Simon, Nicola and the rest of the DTD team had been on the project from day 1 then it would have been the most amazing poker tournament ever.

Would also be quite interesting to go into an alternate universe where DTD weren't involved to see what today would have looked like.

Gutted that I can't play tomorrow.  2.6 bags just too much for me :(

Was pretty much the most tiltiest thing I'd ever heard in my life but thats just my oppinion. When someone is catching alot of cards on you the last thing you need is the trumpet/ panpipes and windchimes treatment. Back reentering today #readyforyothistimejazzflute

I way preferred the jazz flute section to the generic auto tune R&B at the start. Wembley brought in the 90s wedding megamix towards the end and I think morale at that time was at a high for the day, music wise.
Great experience yesterday. It's hot in them domes guys, I wore a suit and was feeling it till about 5PM. Also bring your own packed lunch or go to tesco round the corner in the dinner break. Wembley restaurant was not able to serve everyone properly in the break. I ordered a burger (£25!!) at the start of the break and it didn't arrive for 2 hours. Pony by name, pony by nature.
That was the only tilting thing of the day, this is a great event, thanks DTD & staff.
Good updates here too, will be refreshing today to follow the action so keep up the good work :D
