About Me

Hi blondites. For everyone who doesn't know me (so everyone), my name is Tom High and i've been a professional poker player for the last ~5 years. Over that period I have spent time playing live cash games, live MTTs, online cash games and for the majority, online MTTs. For several years I lived alongside cambridgealex, stato_1 and PJ, and have been backed by Keith 'mondeoman' for most of this time too. As you can imagine, this time bouncing ideas off eachother provided me (and all of us) a great platform to succeed in the game and I feel made all of us significantly better players. Alongside this background I have spent the last 12-18 months putting in significant volume into training and working on my game using online training sites and session reviews, which i feel have improved my level of play immensely during that period. Living in Nottingham I gained a lot of valuable experience playing live poker, being a regular in the 1/2-2/5 games at DTD for the past few years, which certainly helps significantly when playing live poker of any kind. I certainly feel very comfortable playing live and making the significant adjustments I believe it is neccessary to succeed in these games.

The Trip

This will be my first trip to Vegas, which I am really looking forward to. I will be there for 4 weeks and will be renting a 3-bed appartment within very close proximity to the Rio, which I will be sharing with a couple of the Notts guys. I'm treating this trip very much as a business trip first and foremost as I see this as a great opportunity to grind out a very decent month's work. As such I will be playing a mixture of cash and MTTs while i'm away, which should give me plenty of opportunity to adjust to the players out there and the flexibility to keep well rested for the big events I will be playing.

My Results

My results online over the past couple of years have been consistent, without having any really huge scores online or live. In this period I managed to win my first triple crown.
Individual results include wins in:
Big 22 (twice)
Hot 55
Hot 82
(Uppercut) Party $109 50k
iPoker Warm-up
2nd in Knockout Week $109 175k

I've also had lots of near misses in bigger comps (top 20 finishes in Kickoff, Warm-up, Million, Party Major, WCOOP Warm-up 1M) and given i've not had any huge scores i'm pleased to have remained profitable despite playing largely huge-field comps.

Live i've been consistantly profitable in cash games and have had reasonable results in live MTTs, without travelling to many events away from Notts.
These have included:
2nd, 4th, 6th and 7th place finishes in £330/550 DTD Deepstacks
3rd in the £550 'Big Game'
6th in Sky 6-max
I cashed both €2,200 buy-in events I played at EPT Dublin earlier this year (also played the EPT main and felt really comfortable, despite falling short of the money)

The Package

I am looking to sell 40% of myself in both the Main Event ($10,000) and the Venetian $3 million gtd ($3,500) events.
I will be selling at a mark-up of 1.283 in the Main Event and a mark-up of 1.145 in the Ventian $3,500.
I have discussed these mark-ups with fellow professionals who know my game best and feel this provides investors a very profitable investment opportunity.
Thus the package will look as follows:

I will lock the rate taken from XE on 17/5/16. Returns will of course be done at the rate I get when I come back and I will certainly do my best to get the best rate possible on that.

So i've arrived in Vegas. Today is my 4th day here and really enjoying my time here so far. The apartment we've got is perfect, 3 very good side double bedrooms, spacious living area and a decent kitchen. Great location for the Rio events (<10 min walk) and Uber rides are relavtively cheap wherever you want to go.

Settled in nicely and played my first session of poker yesterday. Regged day 1C of the $1,100 2-day 500k gtd event at the Wynn along with PJ and Shola. The Wynn is a pretty incred venue and the comp was pretty good value. All 3 of us made day 2, all fairly short, but we're reasonably close to the money going back... would certainly be a nice morale booster to cash the first comp of the trip, but very happy with how I played. I won't go on about it too much as it's not on the package, but definitely a positive start, which can only help :)

As far as the Venetian 3.5k goes, I think i'll be playing 1C, which is on Weds 22nd. On Monday there's the 1500 extended levels WSOP event, which i'm undecided if i'll play (day 1 is when the England game is on + if I make day 3 I won't be able to play the Venetian on this package). If I decide against playing the 1500 i could play 1B or 1C, i'll take a look and see what else is on to decide which would be softer.

Don't worry, I came 137th with 117 paid anyway :D

Going to play 1C of the Venetian tomorrow. I didn't sleep great last night, so think that's best.

Structure of that one is 20k start stack, 45min levels day 1 (60min day 2, 75min day 3), starts at 50/100.

32.4k 1st break (break every 2 levels). Not got an amazing table, but got a fun chap to my direct right. Just chipped up nicely in the first couple of levels Got in AA v AK for 90bb UTG v UTG2

34.7k 2nd break. Nothing massive to report to those two levels. Pretty happy with table

27.6 going into 3rd break. Been supremely card-dead for a few levels now. Still feeling good and happy with how I'm playing. Got basically avg, so can't complain 😊

Table breaking, which probably isn't a bad thing. Reports from others in the group suggest this is not a great table

35k on dinner break, avg 32.7. New table looks good, much better than 1st. Just coming back to 400/800/100

Lost a decent size one with KsQc on Q75ss after checking flop 3ways as the pfr. Called bet on 4x turn and Tx river vs bb's 86. River was close vs his sizing. Think he might v.bet worse given it was ~1/2 pot river. Got 20bb @ 1k bb

Not too much to report on 2nd break. I've got 44k down from 50k start. Got an ok table, Rainer Kempe over the other side of the table, but several spots to my left I'll be looking to get involved with. Been pretty card-dead so far, but so much time to turn that around

57k on dinner. Got some hands I could get involved with and got to do some value betting that level. Folded top set in level 1 to a guy I now regret folding against (river bought flush and straight, I bet and he raised... He has since 4bet folded turn for 1/2 his stack vs another guy). Had a nice spot with KJcc on AcQcTd, buy unfortunately it ran out 6d Jd vs T8cc... Could have been a big one. Lost minimum with JTs v T9s on TT9 just before break, I checked back turn and river when loads of spades appeared

Finished day 1 on 61,800. Didn't get a lot of great spots, but generally played solid. Couple of calls I made im not happy with on reflection, but focussed really well at the end and picked some nice spots to get some easy chips. Looking forward to day 2. Let's gooo!

Was up to 135-140k then last hand before the break 3bet btn vs HJ open and CO flat with KK. Bet 2 streets on 9423 and check back A river vs 99. 67.5k on the break going back to 800/1600

Rollercoaster final couple of levels. Dropped from 80 to 35 losing every hand, then managed to spin-up rivering a set of jacks in one hand for almost a full double. Had a nosebleed stakes 8-game player 2-seats to my right and I peeled a min 4-bet (I 3bet to 11k and he made it 18.6 or something) with A7cc. Got it in on 742cc8c vs his QQ to double, then won a nice little one with 88 on AQ8QJ to get above 200k. Pleased with how I played overall. Had a toughish seat with the mixed-game guy two to my right and Tom Marchese to my direct right, but feel like I certainly held my own vs them and made the most of spots vs others.

Yeah I've looked at the guys on my table, happy with the draw. Got Chewy and a guy who plays some 10ks in seats 1 and 2, but nobody else at the table has much in the way of cashes in anything but $200-1k events, which is a good sign. Always going to get at least 1 or 2 regs.

I saw you yesterday. I was on Ryan's table all day (until he bust)

2nd break 170k. Lost and annoying all-in with 99 v Q8o just after last break. Didn't really get any amazing spots or hit any boards, but ground it out 1500 left around 1100 paid I believe
