I knew it as soon as insta-declared call... I actually think he may have found a reluctant fold anyway (at least that's what I've been telling myself). I am really paranoid about slow rolling/nit rolling people. In my haste to ensure that I didn't do that to you, I may have missed a decent amount of extra value I'll probably be in Saturday night, if all things go to plan. Good luck at the tables.

Law of averages that I had to beat you out of a pot eventually Sean.
Satisfying, even if it was a cooler... You deserved it for sticking it in my eye every time I 4-bet light against you! haha
Joking aside, it's been enjoyable playing on your table this last couple of weeks, hopefully we can both remain just above the 'broke' threshold for a good while yet ;-)

I am going to have to join the old and boring club Alex.... (said like I'm not in it already eh!) I think a car is a good idea in that it will open up alternatives options for you, in terms of travelling to to juicier cash games but also in other aspects of life.... Having said that though, go for something sensible. Reliable, economical, cheap insurance etc. A diesel would be better imo. For 3K you can get something pretty smart that fits all this criteria. As a family we run two cars and I personally have commuted to work for 10 years, I would hate to know exactly how much I've spent on motoring in that time... and it never ends... (just read this post back and if ever there had been any doubt regarding my 'old and boring status' then it has been effortlessly removed)

I think by leading the turn, if Jack had 77 or a 2 with a high kicker he would go ahead and raise your lead, as your c/c and donk line suggests you are more likely to have a strong holding than a bluff imo and Jack would want to build the pot.
There is also a possibility the river bet sizing may have induced this raise, as it could feel like a blocker.
I would go ahead and make the call.

I think Ged really hit the proverbial nail on its head... I have played against Mitch quite a bit, often paying for the priviledge! I think he has an 8x hand here mostly and whilst he above any other player playing £1/2 or £2/£5 at DTD is capable of being creative in this sort of spot, I don't think it would be often enough to make a call profitable, even with the price offered. I would fold, but then I fold a lot I would have to caveat this opinion with not fully being able to appreciate the table dynamic at the time as well.

I didn't say or even imply that at any point I had played the hand well Jez to be fair, but thanks for that little gem nonetheless. I am trying to get feedback on what line other players would choose to take on this flop in the brief circumstances described, having under-repped the hand pre... Like I said, I have my own thoughts as well, its just a case of wishing to use others with more experience as a sounding board. On reflection, perhaps it would have been better to not disclose that I had folded to the c/r in the original post. My name is . I am a recreational poker player not a professional, and I mostly play £1/£2 at DTD once/twice a week.

As has been stated in previous posts, this is obviously a live hand so the information provided will only be presented to you, only as well as my memory allows... I am sat with £500. In the cut-off - ultimately playing the hand in position. An early position player limps for £2. CambridgeAlex makes it £10 to go (he has a similar stack size to me). I know that he could be iscolating with a wide range of hands here. I then look down and see . Alex and I have an interesting dynamic at the moment, I have been forced to showdown very questionable holdings in 3 bet pots and conversely there are also times when I have flat called/limped with big hands. (I obviously have my own thoughts and rationale for doing this, particularly in the context of the game I have been playing in at DTD recently). However, on this occasion I elected to flat call the £10. Mitch was also on my left, but in the SB I think. (FWIW I believe that I made a mistake here, on reflection a 3 bet was the order of the day). Mitch didn't pull the trigger and do my work for me either, so the BB and the limper joined the action and we went to the flop. The flop was . The action checked to Alex, who in turn checked to me. I then bet £20, half the pot. The BB and the limper folded, but Alex raised to £60. I then tank-folded. I have my own thoughts and ideas about the hand but would like to throw this one open to you guys for your input, for which I would be most obliged (Alex, if you see any mistakes in my description of the hand feel free to amend them.)

I was the UTG player in the hand Mitch is referring to, where Vargas straddled to £128... I actually folded without even looking at my cards. I was sat with over 1k having started with £300. I had 3 weak players (imo) to my right and I felt that I was in a great seat for exploiting them, without putting my entire stack into play with say , plus I was already winning a nice chunk of money. I realise that it was incorrect, folding without looking at your hole cards is a ridiculous thing to do, it was slightly impulsive having seen the all the straddles, I just thought it looks like potential carnage and I could undo hours of grinding. Mitch pointed out it was a bit daft and then promptly shipped his stack into the middle and picked up all that free money.

In the circumstances described...
I'm most likely to go ahead and raise it on the flop. You are so likely to get action from a worse hand that I'm alright (not loving) with getting it in.

I had a situation recently at DTD playing £1/£2 cash NLH... I had been playing against a particular opponent for about 3 hours. We had talked quite a bit and was having a laugh and a joke, generally getting on well, though we had never met before... I was winning about £120 but this guy was winning about £1000.
I then 3-bet this opponent for the fourth time in relatively quick succession. He was opening a lot of pots and I had position against him most of the time. On the last occasion I held QQ after he raised from the button. He opened to £12 and I made it £38 from the SB. (I was half expecting a 4 bet).
As anticipated, he made it £100. He then told me he had 'the best hand possible' and he proceeded to swear on his son's life that he had the goods (AA), he even named his son, told me he liked me and was happy to just win the money I had put in there. This definitely unsettled me, as I am a Dad of two myself and I would never consider saying such a thing.
Because we were playing deep, I just called and then checked the 10 high flop. He bet £150 on the flop, but he was very uncomfortable in doing so. I was then confident enough to ship it in. He held AK, called my all in and missed the turn and river. I scooped a nice pot but what a mug I would have looked to all those at the table if after all had been said he showed me AA!
What he said about his son crossed the boundary for me personally, and took the shine off a good night at the felt.
Any thoughts on this situation are welcome.
