Hiya All.
Tom here (ex Cardroom sup @ Walsall). I'd just like to make a comparison between this final and last years. If anyone remembers Dave C ended up as champ last year outright (no deal), correct me if i'm wrong it was due to his sponsorship deal with whoever it was this time last year, or it maybe cause he just didn't wanna do a deal. But it made for a much better final than what I've read into this year. He went heads up with Junior for quite a while and it was a real tussle and really good to see. In my opinion deals don't make for 'good poker' (as Sami would say). I know it's a lot of cash and all and some of these guys probably won't get into a similar situation for the rest of their poker playing days, but for poker to get taken seriously as a sport (as a lot of people want it to be) I think this kind of occurence ought to be kept at a minimum. Hard to do I know as people will say "it's our money and we'll do what we want". Can you imagine major televised comps/finals ALL ending like this? Televised poker would end up staying on the graveyard channels. Call me naive if you like, just my opinion.
In response to the talk this week regarding flatter payout structures it will appeal to some and not to others, as with everything in poker not everyone will be happy. Like some have already mentioned you poker players vote with your feet as it's your dough but remember if you use your voice collectively and constructively cardrooms will listen to you guys (honest)...petition if you have to because at the end of the day it's the turnout or non-turnout of poker players that'll make or break a tournament or festival.
Lastly well done to Tim (and Don and Phil, good to see some local boys getting in the mix).
P.S. Danni..........were you doing your Frank Sinatra impression on the stool again?!
