Should be fun...

While you have some unexpected free time I'll change the subject...

Still driving the BMW tikay?

I had bit of a mare today and it's going to be an expensive week for me.

Monday I dropped my 520D in to get the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) looked at as I had the increased emissions warning light going on and off over the last few weeks and DPF cleaning fluid didn't fix it.  They ran some tests and figured out what would need replacing / cleaning and I paid the £170 diagostics fee and booked it in for Thursday which will set me back another £550.  Took the car home Monday and driving into work Tuesday and I had a Battery Charge failure warning come up, not to be beaten by the small matter of a red warning light I carried on, called the garage to check if they think something wasn't connected properly after yesterday but they were pretty sure it wasn't related.  A mile later an overheating warning message flashed up, shortly followed by ABS failure, brake assist failure, and my dashboard lit up, as I pulled up I felt I had also lost the power steering too.  So pretty much everything broken then.  I looked under the bonnet and just picked up the twisted but unbroken auxillary drive belt.

2 hours and 2 recovery vehicles later the car was at the garage and the cause of the problem was quickly found.  The pully wheel had sheered off the water pump causing the belt to fall off and everything under the sun to stop working, including the electrics since the battery got drained extra fast.  Another £300 later I got to drive the car home.

I'd lose money at poker less quickly!

I find that achievements really add to the enjoyment of games, they definitely give you something to aim for rather than aimlessly playing a game (I can hear tikay from here muttering something about playing any game is meaningless).

Never really got into gaming or achievement hunting on anything except the Xbox 360 / Xbox One consoles so only ever played Civilization Revolutions.

Did you ever look at achievment / game guide websites like this?  https://truesteamachievements.com/game/Sid-Meiers-Civilization-VI/achievements They're really useful for figuring out the tricker or more time consuming ones.  Although in the case of Civilization VI there aren't many guide on that site.

This fella - below - was playing the tournament;

http://abc7.com/$15-million-payout-for-man-wrongfully-imprisoned-for-27-years/2681233/

Wrongfully convicted of murder, he spent 27 years in prison, before his conviction was overturned. He sued the LA Sheriffs Department, & was awarded damages of..... $15 million.

He seemed pretty happy with how things had turned out.

I couldn't earn $15 million in 25 years but I think I'd take 25 years of my life over a $15 million settlement any day.

Is there any amount someone would take to spend 25 years in prison willingly?

Pics of fry-up, please.

Have a safe flight.

Hope you don't get caught going through security, with all those queues Wink

Your diet has definitely improved over the years.

5% please tikay as my confidence in your pokering ability and lack of value of my money has not diminished in all the years I have staked you.

Good to see you back on board Aaron, 5% BOOKED & £428.90 safely received.

How is Leon getting on, & did I get his name right this time? Career decided? Girls on board yet?

Leo (which answers your second question) is doing great, finished his GCSE's and for a change of scenery has moved to Aberdeen to study.  He's just finished his first year up there and exams are over so came down to Southampton last week.  We're heading over to the IOW for a bit of weekend fun in the morning.  No career plans, he's still dithering over what to focus on for a study path let alone career.  He's young, I don't feel inclined to push him one way or another, as long as he's well a rounded unentitled independent millennial I'm happy (think I've succeeded there).

I was going through some of my old videos, on the compuer and on YouTube looking for something the other day and found a few from around 2010 featuring you and Orford on Sky Poker TV doing all sorts of nonsense, oh how they made me laugh.  I was going to post one but wasn't sure if it would make you cringe or laugh more?  I must have saved about 50 or more classic moments from Sky Poker over the years.  Good times.

I collected two of my Bosses from McCarron yesterday, Sam, who is my Manager Bloke, & Mark, who runs Marketing. Actually, everyone in Sky Poker is my Boss, but I've no prob with that, I've done my share of running shows & these days I enjoy being at the bottom of the ladder.

So, after a month of dressing sloppily, like an Englishman abroad, because I'm in Vegas & nobody cares, I had to make an effort yesterday & smarten myself up.

Pretty fly for a white guy, huh?

Part of the palaver of moving hotels is when your luggage gets misplaced and you need to resort to the lost property bin.

Today will be the last scheduled event on the 2017 Stake, (1 or 2 more little ones MIGHT be added) & it's a cracker, an $1,100 PLO/PLO8/Big O affair at Venetian.

15,000 starting chips (starting at 50-100), 40 minute levels, Late Reg until the end of Level 6.

Start time is 5.05pm, which is 01.05 AM in the UK.

Of the $1,100 entry cost, $980 goes into the prize pool, $75 is the entry fee & $45 is the "staff fee". I think that makes the total juice 12.5%, not unreasonable by Vegas standards. The place is mint, too, as are the dealer & table quality, and it's a pleasure to sit on plush leather chairs.  Every table has automatic shuffle machines, which speeds things up a treat.

I had an early night in preparation, & I'm ridiculously excited to be playing this beauty.

Please let the God's of Seat Draws be kind today, 4, 5 or 6 will do nicely, but 2 or 7 will be poo. The seat I had last time at Venetian was a real handicap.

I hope I don't need a re-entry, but if an accident arose early enough, I would definitely consider it.

Had a great time reading the updates this year tikay, I think you did pretty well both financially and the results you had, number of day 2's etc.

Have fun with the hoarde (what's the collective noun for a group of poker players, a moan?) of Sky qualifiers now and if you manage to find time for a couple more small tournaments all the better.

Great result tikay you must be over the moon.  Those updates read like the end of that tournament was pretty fast paced.

Question though, do all tournaments these days end with deals being done?  I hardly seem to see any being played out to the final chip, even when they do some deal has been arranged before hand.

Not complaining mind, cash out > buy in = win

Hi Aaron.

I'm not keen on plucking figures out of the air, & I rarely play Live Poker these days, except for 6 weeks every year in Vegas. I've played a good few in the UK over the course of 15 years though, & made hundreds of (little) Finals.

I'd set the line at 75% or more end in business. In fact, I'd bet good money the figure is higher than that.

Anyone else want to pluck a figure out of the air?

PS - how is LEO? (See, I got there eventually. Sorry about that).

I have the same problem with Phil Quayle's son - I get confused EVERY time between Conor & Connor. I know his wife's name - Lois, & his daughters name - Caitlin, but buggered if I can ever remember if it is Conor or Connor. (It's Conor I think, same as the ill-fated horse).

Leo is just great, since he's finished his exams and been to prom I think every night since has been an after-prom after party.  Must be nice.

Some new guy just started at work called Conroy and everyday someone calls him or emails him Connor, that must get annoying.

I'll be up for a few hours yet so looking forward to tonights updates.

Seemed like today's tournament just didn't get going for you.  There is always the next one.

Enjoy the sticky bun and choc ice.

As an aside did your post count reach some crazy milestone.  I'm sure I saw before this years Vegas staking took off it was on some very nearly round number.  It hasn't just passed 1,000,000 posts has it, that would be insane right?

That would be insane, yes.

The "milestone" was 100,000, though I'm not sure I should be particularly proud of that.

How is Leon? Decided what he intends to do with his life yet?

When will that wonderful new warship, HMS Queen Elizabeth, be visiting Southampton Water & Portsmouth Dockyard?

Think we'd come down to have a shufty at her. What a sight it must be.

I'm not at all sure there is any point paying £6 billion for an Aircraft Carrier, or whatever it is, but it's a jolly fine looking piece of kit.

100,000 here is 65,000 ahead of next door where 30,000 of those probably seem like you defending the site and biting your tongue because of some 56p fiasco or other.

Leo is great, finished his GCSE's a week ago and went suited and booted to his Prom on Tuesday.  So that's school done for him.  Onto the next phase of his life now which will involve school in Aberdeen which is a huge change for him but it'll be a good for a change of scenery I'm sure.  After that, university, where and when is to be decided.  So many changes in life when you're a teenager.

You calling him Leon (which you often do, but I don't mind) reminds me of Leo when he used to go to Saturday morning goalie training (he was a goalie for about 4 years in under-whatever age he was).  I went to pick him up after about 3 weeks and the coach kept calling out for Leon.  I thought nothing of it until I saw Leo answering to the instructions called out for Leon.  Turns out on week 1 of training the coach had asked Leo his name, Leo said it but the coach misheard "Leon" and called him that for the whole of the first session, after that Leo wasn't sure how to correct him.   Bit like when you're at work and meet someone, insta-forget their name and see them every day for the next 6 months but never actually hear their name again.  Bit awkward to ask after 6 months I'd say.

I haven't heard of any plans for the HMS Queen Elizabeth to be visting anytime soon, if I hear anything I'll let you know.

Currently looking around for a late cruise out of Southampton around August for a bit of country hopping and sunshine before the summer holidays end.  Never been on a cruise from here and the cruise terminal is about 3 miles from my house.

A-A-3-K ds very first hand facing 3 limpers.

Pot.

2 call.

Flop:

2-4-7 with two of my suit.

Bla bla, we pot every street but our flush fails to arrive. One old boy - these things are like a day in an OAP home - rivers the boat.

Three of us have the same A-3 and so I get one 23rd of the pot or whatever.

Down to 12,800 from 15,000 after one hand.

Less TwentyThirdAdges and BUSTO's, more LadderAdges please.

Good luck.
