I shared a table with ''the claimer'' who I haven't seen since the old Tribeca days ..... what a pleasure.

A terrible experience Tony.If I might make a suggestion - Hire a private Loss Assessor and let him/her deal with the insurance claim for you. They will claim for things you wouldn't dream of and save you a fortune in putting it all right. It will also happen much quicker than if you deal with the Insurance company yourself. I had a major amount of damage to my factory some years ago. They little bar-stewards poured liquid printing ink into everything - 14 machines and printing presses and all through the offices. We had a new office up and running in 24 hours and all down to the Loss Assessor our accountant hired on our behalf.
Hope it all goes well for you.

Raymundo - New Yorker, gave up poker for good after substantial losses. Now he was a good laugh at the table. Geah - exactly as above really. I tracked him down a year or two ago and he plays backgammon now. He ran the 'overthegun' site. Acari - still playing. Blew his bankroll having his roof repaired, then like the fighter that he is made it all back again. Humpo - played with him 2 nights ago. He's just gone back to Vc after a long break. Acmelabrat - ''relocated'' to the Philippines. I think he's Porty's next door neighbour.Khazi - bumped into him a year or two back, still plays a good game. Red Marauder - cracking good player was Red. Hagenn - (Not sure of that spelling) - come across him a while ago, can't remember where.
There are lots more but my head hurts now.
ps. Pffa (play for fun always) was a delightful lady and was Porty's missus. I played no small part in getting them together as they used to argue like cat and dog on the 1808 forum. Played golf with her son once or twice too. Paula (Pffa) had a number of serious health issues and I hope she is well now.
Barney, ran the 1808gang website and his son Sparky still plays a bit as well as doing wedding photography , last I heard.
Porty is in the Phillipines now? Really? Is there a story to that? Pfffa - yes, a lovely lady. Deserved better in life, I always felt. She was, as you say, quite unwell last time I saw her, in Grosvenor Stoke as I recall, some years back. I hope she is OK. Had a most pleasant daughter, too. He is in the Philippines and yes there is a story to it but my lips are are sealed

I used to own half a snooker hall in the late 70's/early 80's and played with a mate of Patsy's, a gentleman called Joe Kerr. He was the Northern Ireland billiards champion for something like 5 years on the trot. He brought Patsy up to play at the club on a couple of occasions and he was very good indeed. We also had a character there who played and beat them both on a number of occasions. His name was Neville Suthers. Neville only had one eye that worked and three teeth but boy could he play snooker, and poker, and darts, and crib etc. He'd been banned from every working men's club in Rochdale for hustling the punters at anything they wished to play.
I took Neville and another guy to a serious snooker tournament in Manchester one day. After the matches we were driving home through central Manchester and we passed a new pool hall, that had just opened, called Mr Pool. We went in for a look and some refreshment and Neville bought 2 bottles of Guinness, which he carefully placed, one in each pocket of his full-length camel overcoat to take home. While we were at the bar I got talking to the manager as we watched the resident professional warming up. The manager said that the pro would take on all-comers for £20 a game. I arranged a 10 game match for £20 a frame. We all moved to the match table and the pro assumed as I'd put up the cash, I was to be playing him. When I told him he was playing the old guy at the bar a big smile came across his face.
The pro started playing in a very smart white shirt, black trousers and matching waistcoat. Neville kept his overcoat on and still had a bottle of Guinness in each pocket. By the 5th frame Neville was 5-0 up and still had his overcoat on. The pro was now minus his waistcoat, had rolled his shirt sleeves up and was sweating like a good 'un. It finished up 9-1 to Neville and we split the pot. As we left the manager politely suggested I didn't bring Neville back for a rematch.
At LAST, you've Posted on my diary, & a great story, too - more please. And well done last night, a nice little win. We won't mention that horrific Call with A-7, eh? And immediate service, when the gutterball 8 turnned. I called it in, you know...... TY Sir, however I refuse to discuss the A7 call other than to say it seemed fair to me,

I'm not sure if this counts, but I'm so stunned, I don't care. I just had a check from the Inland Revenue for £406.88.
They're still a set of *&(£$"*!

Last bit on this long driver story. So at the risk of boring everyone rigid, here goes ....................
The thing I forgot to mention was probably the most awesome and puzzling of the whole session. At one point this guy, Mark, picked up a handful of balls and dropped them onto the grass. He then started talking about plugged lies and the difficulties of getting the ball out clean. Hr then proceeded to stamp all the balls into the ground. I mean all the way into the ground, with just a tiny top-section of ball showing. He asked if anyone had their clubs with them and picked out a 9 degree driver belonging to one of the guys watching. He hit every ball from the ''plugged'' lie about 300 yards. The amazing thing was that there were no marks left on the grass, no divot, just a nice round hole where the ball had been. It looked like someone had scooped out a hole with one of those ice-cream scoops. He wouldn't tell us how he did it and I've puzzled on this ever since. We all theorised that he was somehow slapping the ground with the clubhead just before inpact and making the ball literally jump out of the hole.

Popdog that story was insane. I've seen some big hitters in my time and I also hit a long ball so to hear you talk about those sort of distances is insane.
When people talk about how far they drive the ball it's hillarious. I think there is an equation that most people use for figure out their average driving distance:
(Downwind + downhill + hard ball + 40C heat + 0% humidity) + Sunday best drive = "I hit the ball like 280"
I don't see many pro's hitting it passed me when I'm swinging ok and after using gps my av drive is 270-280 on the flat/no wind. I can hit driver 260 off a bare lie too thanks to my local course having fairways as tight as concrete.
Ok enough of my bragging, back to the diary...
What is it that enables someone to hit such a long drive? Just purely great technique and power or should power not matter past a certain point? Well first off there was no exageration in the distances I mentioned. The two guys were both built like brick sh*t-houses and did as much wieght training as they played golf. Both their swings were extremely compact with the tightest right elbows I've seen. They maintained that the distance was due to all these factors but in particular the timing of the release of the wrists generating immense clubhead speed. They did a short tuition for the guys and myself and certainly with me they concentrated on compacting my swing and, raising the clubhead at the top of my backswing. Pretty standard stuff that any good pro could have done, but boy could they hit a ball.

Someone once said: “If you blame others for your failures, do you then credit them with your success?”
My favourite subject at the mo Tom is machismo, I am surrounded by it from friends attitudes and work. My feeling is that machismo in poker players in general is terrible, would you say thats a fair appraisal? All I know is, if it can't be fixed by duct tape or WD-40, it's a female problem. LOL..... you forgot the hammer

Thanks for the welcome James. The Tribeca days were the best and I do still have contact with a few of the old 1808gang lads although many have fallen by the wayside.
To finish on the golf .............. The drives this guy hit were awesome. They were literally impossible to follow. There came a point in every drive where the ball, having been travelling about 6 feet off the ground, suddenly started to climb and climb until everyone watching had lost site of it. All the range balls they hit ended up way beyond the boundary of the driving range. We all finished off watching them hitting 4 irons onto the 385 yard par 4 18th green.
My wife's just told me his name was Mark but can't remember his surname.
Welcome Pop/Elsa...the 1808 gang lol, seems an age ago... Thanks Marc )
