Ok a totally recreational players view:

I reckon villain 2 will likely fold most of the time - he just called so he wanted to see a flop not go all in.

Other than that as this is a one day comp (I think??) with likely 30min blinds (??) I'd go all in and take the gamble hoping to build a decent stack. Then pray they all have AQ.

I wonder what the regulars think?

Hiya

12K/24K antes 3K

22 left. 774K average.

Thanks.

With 30bbs average, if its playing fairly aggressive it shouldn't run too late.

Maybe.

Toronado is out to 5/2 on Betfair. Big drifter from the early morning price.

Due to the going or something else??

Hi Trouty,,

"Fred" is the nickname for the thread, & in this case, as the bet is an "Offer", the bet gets credited ("owned by") to the Fred Account, rather than the Tipster.

Thanks for the clarification Tikay.

I've put the same bet on the Irish Oaks - Talent and Riposte, money back if second.

Irish Oaks tomorrow at The Curragh. Boilsports money back (cash, not free bet) if 2nd. Boils best price both market leaders, Talent & Riposte, both 3/1, both trading shorter on Betfair. Suggest punting either or both for Fred.

Hi, sorry what do you mean by for Fred? (Bit of a newb to this forum)

The Irish Oaks apparently usually goes to one of the first 3 in the betting (9 out of the last 10 I think) so this looks a stand out bet.

I've gone for the favourite in the first two: Gale Force Ten and Duntle. Both have solid group 1 form.

Hoping that the Al Kazeem/Camelot form is over rated I've gone for Maxios in the Prince of Wales. Seems to be an improved horse in group races in France this season.

The Queen Mary is as wide open as you can get but I've had small bets on Fire Blaze, Kauliani and Survived.

Wondering if/when most players would fold this hand against a player with somewhat fishy tendancies at times (and big fishy talk)...

Live £1/£1 at DTD. Player to my immediate right (big talker) is very active pre flop raising to £5 about every 3rd or 4th hand. Post flop he is mostly pretty straightforward. However he loves to talk super aggressive so every hand its like "if I'd gone all in on the flop/turn/river they couldn't have called" etc etc. However, he's only really gotten out of line with some weird plays a hand full of times in around 2 or 3 hours but this has cost him and he's on his 3rd buy in. I've been playing pretty tight, ABC.

Big Talker is SB in this hand and I'm BB. We both have around £130.

UTG straddles to £2.

Its folded around to Big Talk in the SB who makes it £6. I have    . I re-raise to £17. I dont want the straddler to call, I'd rather be heads up in position with most likely the best hand. UTG straddler folds. SB thinks for a while and flat calls.

So £36 in the pot and the flop comes  three clubs.

BT checks. With TPTK I bet £17.

BT check-raises to £35.

Hmmm. I'm not really loving it too much but I can't find a fold here so I call (to re-evaluate on the turn Smiley). I guess I'm hoping he's making a move so he gives up on the turn. Maybe he has 5-6 for a straight draw. Or there are plenty of J-x hands that I'm ahead of, though he's probably more likely to check call those - maybe.

Turn is

He thinks for a few seconds and shoves for around £80.

Hmmm well he could he have KJ, QJ, J9 which I can beat. Or a small set (jacks seems unlikely) which I can't - this probably feels like his most likely hand. A pocket pair seems unlikely. Or just some wild bluff - possibly getting out of line after trying to steal the straddle.

Anyways I'm pretty sure it should have been a fold?Huh?? but curiosity is a terrible thing so after some dwellage I pressed the call button.

Spoiler alert.....

He had pocket aces.

At Fishers Cross and Bobs Worth.

Hardly original.

Just wondering how much attention people give to these?

To be honest I'm usually too busy thinking about my hand and what my opponents may have to notice or think about tells.

However, ones I've heard quoted are:

A player that keeps staring at the flop has definitely missed. A player that looks at the flop then starts looking at his chips or your chips has usually hit.

Or - someone that makes a bet and gives you the big stare down is usually weak and wants the fold.

What about speech play during a hand?

Any thoughts on these or any other tells? Any good examples?

Evening all. This is a hand from last weekend on the 50p/£1 cash tables at DTD that I'd appreciate some opinions on:

I've been running good and and up to around £200. SB is a regular DTD player and just sat down a few hands ago with about £100. UTG has been steadily losing and is down to around £50ish.

I'm on the button with

A few players limp in (as is usual) and I make it £7 to go. SB and UTG call and the others fold. So its 3 players to the flop with about £25 in the pot.

Flop is  two spades

They both check to me so I make a c-bet of £14.

SB quickly calls. UTG things for ages whilst fiddling about with his chips over and over. He seems to have a genuine decision and I'd be very surprised if he has more than a medium to weak hand - probably a queen with a medium kicker - QJ or Q10 as a guess.

Eventually UTG announces all in for about £44.

So its £30 for me to call. I'm pretty sure I'm ahead of UTG, so folding seems out of the question, but the problem is the SB. If I shove all in to isolate on UTG then SB will fold all the hands I'm beating (like Qx) and call with a set of twos or threes. The other hand SB could have is something like  or  for a straight and flush draw. He might call with these hands and he might fold.

To be honest here I didn't like shoving and I didn't like folding so I decided on the middle way and called hoping that SB would fold. Anyways SB quickly calls again as well.

So now there is about £15O in the pot with 1 all in and SB only has about £55 left.

The turn is the    giving me top 2 pair

SB checks. I probably should have checked behind here but I was thinking if SB is on a straight/flush draw then I need to get the money in now because if he misses on the river he wont call another bet. Plus I dont want his draw to get there - if he's on one. Plus whatever comes on the river if the SB shoves I'll be getting around 4-1 pot odds so I'll have to call. So I put the SB all in and he quickly calls showing a set of threes

The river is another king (bink!) making me a higher full house and winning the pot. UTG confirms he had a pair of queens on the flop - as I suspected.

This proves the old poker cliche, its better to be lucky than good. Smiley

So, obviously I got lucky on the river but how about my play on the flop and turn?

Yes, thanks all, i agree this one is bad. Sometimes the big blind squeeze looks like it just has to get through but, on relection, this definately wasn't the spot for it.

14  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Re: Is this terrible? (2) on: August 29, 2012, 08:05:17 PM
OK so not too far off what I did then.

As played it turned out villain had K4 for top two pair on the flop and called my turn shove after some deliberation.  Maybe I was just unlucky here?

On reflection I think maybe I was best to just check/call the flop then try to get to showdown as cheaply as possible. Or maybe that's missing value when he has KJ/K10?

Where have you got your number ""80-90%" from? If he's calling with Qhigh and better thats like 17% of hands. Meaning to be folding 90% of the time, he'd have to be opening 170% of starting hands.

Have to admit I genuinely don't understand this. If he's calling 17% that just means he's folding 83% to me and my guess on %ages is about right.
