Hi,

Been reading your diary with great interest and I'll certainly be following it in the time to come as I feel I can relate to your story in many ways. I am a very keen poker player (obvs, as I'm on here), but only really play micro stakes, mainly on Sky, more for the enjoyment of it. I too am also 19, but I have taken the alternative route through to you and am currently in my first year of university, so poker is on the backbench atm during the exam period haha! I also follow cricket with keen interest and completely agree we should have enforced the follow on and even after we hadn't I think our batting approach was terrible. If we were going to bat I think we should have been doing what Bairstow and Root were doing at the end and just going for it... the way that Trott and Compton played was completely non-nonsensical imo.

Cheers,

Rory Mathews

Busted before the cash unfortunately!

Just couldn't really get anything going, was one of those nights where you look down at  and then the flop comes  x against a guy that hasn't played a hand all night.

Happy with how I played and definitely agree that the atmosphere was very friendly. It was nice to play in a bigger buy-in tournament too compared to the beginners at DTD and I learnt a lot from watching one of the regs who was unfortunately sat on my left. I am definitely tempted to have a shot at some bigger tourneys at dtd now though.

Thanks for the advice would def say it would have been the best way to play.

Rory

Hi all,

I'm making a trip tonight to play in the deepstack tournament at the Alea for the first time.

Was just wondering if there were any tips on how I should play or adjust my style to the type of player typically playing there?

Thank you

(Edit: it is the Alea in Nottingham)

I know what I said wasn't ground breaking advice. It was aimed at some of the new players whom I felt it would benefit. They wouldntve read it elsewhere so sort of irrelevant that it had already been said.

Tbf I'm new to the forum and found the post that started off the spat pretty informative and insightful.

Look up the riverside golf centre, not been for years but was a simple place to hack your way around. It's about about 4 drives and a 7 iron from DTD (about a mile south)

I'm pretty sure there is a driving range at riverside golf too. If anyone is looking to hone their skills or untilt after a sickening cooler.

Haha true, although I feel pretty set on seeing out my degree atm... having a blast at uni. and enjoying just playing some poker on the side for fun!

Haha that women was loving it, especially that time she binked her 5 to river the straight!

Tracked you down in classic technology generation way of checking the DTD results then facebook stalking the name... #feltcreepy

I just enjoy the pressure of not having to cash in the higher tourneys with my limited bankroll (student loan or brother staking me)  and playing with my mates who are only really getting into poker by playing in the beginners, I've played a £25 buy-in once before at DTD, when i was still in sixth form, managed to final table it for my highest ever cash... but I ran ridiculously well in it tbf.

I'll do my best to stay in the degree Wink I saw that you also were doing economics before leaving uni.... maybe that bodes well for my poker career haha!

Hi Alex,

Played on the same table as you last night in the beginners comp. at DTD, I was the guy on the first table that got it in with TT vs. AQs and got out flopped by the quad queens. Was great to get the opportunity to play against a pro for a small buy-in, but what I was more impressed with was your willingness to give out advice and genuine enjoyment you seemed to have for the game.

Thank you for this, despite getting on the wrong end of some shitty variance it still felt as though I got something out of the night (also re-raising you with junk and getting you to fold helped a bit Wink )
