1  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Mini-WCOOP main event hand on: September 26, 2016, 05:36:03 PM
This hand was played yesterday very early on in the mini WCOOP $50 main event.
http://www.boomplayer.com/poker-hands/Boom/20834938_5D40511766

In game, I was not liking the flop and was tempted to fold, but convinced myself he can still have AA/AK. On the river I decided to blocker bet and fold to an all in,  hoping to minimise losses against better and get a sigh call from AK which may check back river.  However with hindsight and discussing with a friend, given his sizing pre and raise size on the flop against this many players, I am not convinced he has AA/AK all that often and will have KK a very high percentage of the time.  Any feedback on the hand is greatly welcomed!

Congrats on the WCOOP-17 win!   Well played!

(was the final hand with 34dd on T43 a misclick when you bet over 3x pot on the flop?)

For that $100 freeroll for playing more than 8 tables Wink

Seems like you nailed it with the reasons behind this being a bluff. 78suited is also a somewhat likely bluff for him.
And as you mentioned, his river sizing doesn't look like he wants to be called- making J9/99/55/AJ less likely.
The only comment that I disagree with is that "this is always a bluff". Some players will just bet the most they can with their nutted hands and ignore what your hand could be.
Other than that, nice call, well played.

By leading flop, you are just bloating the pot for when he has you beat. Nice hand to check/call imo.
Turn blocker bet, given as played on flop, I don't hate. Maybe he just flats this with over pairs.
By river, given how tight you perceive him to be, I think you can bet bigger for value. So maybe around 70k.

Have to admit, 3bet folding never crossed my mind, only shove or fold.  I like it, agree that it looks extremely strong so will get lots of folds from him. And because I only 21bigs deep he will rarely flat.

How do you decide on 3bet folding vs shove vs fold with the top 15% of hands in this spot?
7  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Big $22, what to do? on: August 17, 2015, 02:23:30 PM
Deep in the Big $22 on pokerstars. Having started with around 6500 players, we are down to the last 151 players. $20k up top. I am currently 108th/151.

Blinds are 2000/4000 with a 500ante. I am dealt  in the small blind with a starting stack of 86,000. Action folds to chrisdm  (a pokerstars pro) in the hijack with 180k. He quickly raises to 8000. CO has 140k, button 34k, me 86k and BB 53k behind.

Action folds to me.  There is now 18,500 in the middle. Is this a clear shove with my hand? What hands would you get it in here? Also, are there any tools/charts that people use to help them with these decisions?

Sidenotes: he raises very quickly despite playing 10 tables. Relatively new table so no reads on how people are playing.

Fantastic podcast. Definitely one to listen to twice due to the vast amount of advice you give. Thanks for sharing.

Here is my 2cents worth...

Early in the Sunday Million, it seems too risky to be playing flop anyway other that what you did. He can have all straights and better sets.

Turn, check call seems fine. He might get away from flushes if you x/raise and you are stopping him from bluffing if he has nothing.
Leading turn? He might just hero fold a straight, e.g. T6spades (or only call turn and fold river). So not too keen on leading turn.

By river, I think check again. Hope he continues with some 3 barrel bluff. Still a strong possibility that you are beat, so would just check call river too. Doubt he calls much worse on the river if you x/r.

Might seem tight to flop a set, make a boat and check/call down to river. But this way you are keeping it low variance if you are beat - in the online tournament of the week. And your are keeping all his bluffs in too.

Also worth noting that Kuul is an online pro with a lot of results. So I think the assumptions I made are valid (i.e. him having bluffs here and getting away if you lead or x/r turn).

Thanks a lot for your comments - very useful.
Seems obvious now that shoving pre is by far the best play. Too vulnerable a hand to be raising small pre flop for value with that chip stack. Shoving may also get looked up by small pocket pairs by the cut off, which would be a brilliant result.

This hand is from a £150 live tournament in London. Discussed it with some close friends, but would very much appreciate the views of people on blondepoker.
Day 1 maybe 6 hours in. Deep structure. My image is fairly loose/aggressive despite being short stacked.
Blinds are 500/1000 with a 100ante. My stack is 17k. Playing 9 handed.
Dealt  on the button.  Action folds round to an older man in the cut off who limps. I have seen him raise premium hands earlier.
I make it 3000.
A loose player calls from the SB, BB folds and CO calls. Both have me covered.

Pot is about 11k, I have 14k back.

Two Clubs    Both players check to me. I think for 10seconds then move all in.

Small blind thinks for some time before folding. Cut off quickly calls with  . I don't improve.

Questions:
What is the best play pre flop? With 88 should I just shove pre with 17bigs after a cut off limp which is very rarely strong?
Having made it 3000 pre, should I bet small on the flop and take it from there?
My logic was that my hand probably looks like AK/AQ when I quickly shove the flop, so I can get called by worse. And there are a lot of chips out there, given my chip stack. I imagine I have the best hand fairy often so am chipping up relatively risk free?
