I'm in a rut and I'm thinking of a career change.  The idea of driving a black-cab appeals to me.  Can you give me a bit of info?

(1) What's the best way to get started?
(2) Is it better to buy your own taxi (and what are the associated costs)?
(3) Do you get to chose your own working hours?
(4) Can it be a decent earner at certain times, e.g. weekend nights?
(5) What's it like as a job?

I'm new, so I thought I'd better introduce myself also, as requested above by TightEnd.

My name's Andy, I live in Coventry.  I mostly play low buyin (up to $30) MTTs online with the occasional SNG if I want to fill a short period of spare time.  I used to play on UB most of the time, but now it's mainly Stars (plus recently Party).  My handle on all sites is cov_bloke.  Please say hello if you see me online :-)  I also play live at Walsall once a month in the £5 rebuy sat. for the £300.  I've not managed to win a seat yet in several attempts.  I'll be up there tonight trying again.

I'm looking forward to playing the Saturday 7th tournament @ Broadway.
