1  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Wow ! on: July 28, 2010, 05:01:28 PM

It appears as though some person or persons wanted this public and that's the reason it's gone this way.

I don't think there would ever have been a correct way to handle this. If it wasn't for a couple of people who clearly have it in for Kev and wanted him publicly destroyed none of us would have been any the wiser about this situation as it would have been dealt with privately and off forum.

Unfortunately there were other parties who had knowledge of the events and it is their involvement which has forced this whole issue to go public and cause so many problems and ill feelings for so many people.

It seems as though Tikay is being made out to be the bad guy in all of this but that really isn't the case. Given the option he would have dealt with this privately.

There are 2 parties who have caused all the unrest here and forced Kev's removal from Blonde. It is those two who are kicking Kev while he is down, not Tikay and I sincerely hope that I never come across either of these 2 spiteful and vindictive swines ever again.

Matt

If this is true then it puts the Tikays original post in a whole new context.

If someone was aware of this situation with Kev and was prepared to publicise it rather than let it be dealt with behind closed doors first then Tikay had no option but to put the original post on the Forum.  Anything else would have left him open to accusations of a cover up.

I also thought the original post was a huge mistake but if the gist of EvilPie’s post is correct than there was no other option.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct ?

I would recommend booking it yourself through either of the following websites:

http://www.ownersdirect.co.uk/
http://www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/

We went to Carvoiero last year and Alvor the year before.  On balance I would recommend Alvor over Carvoeiro.  Before we had kids we went to Lagos four times which is my favourite resort as it is a good sized proper town and does not feel like a tourist resort and has an excellent range of Bars and resturants.  If you are looking at Lagos I wouldn't recommend staying near the beach (Meia Praia) as it is a decent walk from the town.  Alvor is a more family orientated resort than Lagos.

Taxi transfer prices here:

Food in Portugal is excellent, especially if you like seafood.

Walsall Grosvenor is a better cardroom. Most of what galos says is effectively true about the standards of dealing and rules inconsistency etc...a nice casino though and Friday nights is still the best comp in the area.

Friday nights have slipped a lot and it doesn't often get more than 85 runners and make more than £5k these days.  Used to get 110 and regularly make £8.5k+.  High water mark was 152 runners and around 13k.  Sign of the times (and the DTD factor) that numbers are down.  The other venues in Birmingham don't seem to be doing any better though.  They are still getting big numbers (140+) for the Saturday and Monday comps though.

Broadway is a joke always has been always will be,(unless they change whos is running it all) from the non existent floor people that cant make rulings to the hideous under trained dealers, they cant organise any big events and are an embarrassment to the birmingham poker scene.

This should be the premier place in birmingham for comps and a variety of cash games for all levels from £1/1 to £25/50 comps from a tenner upto £100 regular
But no-one there has got a clue how to run a card room and more importantly a profit making card room. which they are so desperate for.

I havent been there since they let a regular player cheat and didnt say a word to him, me and and another were waiting for a ruling at showdown because of the lack of knowledge from the dealer (surprise, surprise) while we are waiting this player mucks our hands and the flop and tells the dealer to get on with it !
and the dealers does excactly that, i was shocked to the core

if that was a big comp i would of smashed a chair in his face, the floor came over and listened to my complaint and said nothing about it, and they wonder why players wont go there to play a grand comp

do yourselves a favour broadway, get some one in there that knows what they are doin

So where do you play in Birmingham that is dealer dealt and better than the Broadway ?  Granted this was a total fuck up, and given the low turnouts they tend to get for their festivals I don't know why they bother any more but do you really think Gala, Star City, or The Rainbow are better ?

It depends on what you are planning to do over the weekend.  A weekend Walsall wouldn't be my first choice.

The Broadway in Birmingham is an excellent place to play.  Friday night's £20 RB usually makes around £6k and normally gets 90 runners.  Saturday's £30 DC freezeout usually makes 4k and normally gets 140 runners.  It is  also very central for pubs, clubs, and resturants.

The Forum is owned by the Shareholders, who have mandated control of the Forum to the Moderators.

I have seen this mentioned a few times and feel the need to make a slight correction.  The operation (and possibly domain name) and running of the Forum may be owned by the shareholders but they don't own the Forum in the sense that the forum is a collection of individuals who post/lurk.  Without the members there is no Forum.  If the actions of the shareholders and moderators don't reflect the members views/wishes the Forum will become deserted.

I don't know what criteria the mods use before banning a member but if all the shit stirrerers were banned on this Forum for pissing off the mods you might as well change the name to Bland Poker.

Pleasing second post Thomas. Amazing scenes really, being surrounded by a bunch of pissed-up turks, choosing between fatty chicken and fatty doner, then being told 'no water, no diet coke, only coke'. Good kebab though to be fair, and I'm a kebab expert imo.
[X] I'll give you the 10% next time I see you. I ALWAYS pay my 10% up straight away. It baffles me when people choose not to.
[X] Claw lands the odds-on shot. Only ever going to be Bobalike's portly Scotch cousin going back for seconds imo

Did it have red cabbage in it ?  Rarely see it these days.  Mark of a quality Donner IMO.

A friend of mine has recently started his own business and is on the flat-rate VAT scheme. The changes in VAT means he's out of pocket already. Seems a good way to help small businesses and get people spending

All the flat rates were changed after VAT was reduced to 15% so there is no change to those using the fixed rate scheme.  It may be that he hasn't changed his flat rate.
10  Community Forums / The Lounge / Re: Virgin Media TV v Sky? on: March 03, 2009, 11:35:02 AM
I've had both and when I switched to Sky the Basic TV package with Phone (Sky Talk unlimited with free international calls) and 8 meg broadband package, the cost was £30 per month.  The problem with Virgin (aside from the crap customer service) is they lure people in with cheap introductory offers ie. 10 meg broadband is £5 for the first 3 months but then goes up to £14 after that.  When I switched to Sky I saved around £20 per month.

Another thing to bear in mind is are going to watch TV in other rooms in the house ?  If your new house doesn't have a Digital aerial you won't be able to receive TV signals once the digital switchover takes place.  If you get Sky you can use your dish to receive the Freesat channels (I had to pay £100 to get someone to run the cable and modify the dish for me).  If you go with Virgin you will have to pay for a multiroom subscription or get a new aerial.

drugs rated by their overall danger according to a home office study. similar studies comissioned by eu came up with essentially the same conclusion i.e. ecstasy not very dangerous at all

1. Heroin
2. Cocaine
3. Barbituates
4. Street methadone
5. Alcohol
6. Ketamine
7. Benzodiazepines (e.g. Vallium)
8. Amphetamines
9. Tobacco
10. Buprenorphine
11. Cannabis
12. Solvents
13. 4-MTA
14. LSD
15. Methylphenidate (Ritalin)
16. Anabolic steroids
17. GHB
18. Ecstasy
19. Alkyl Nitrites (poppers)
20. Khat

LOL. LSD at 14 ?  The clowns who produced this list have obviously never taken any of these drugs.  Mind drugs such as LDS (class A I thought) are much more likely to do you lasting permanent harm than heroin.  They should read William Burroughs depostion in Naked Lunch.

As regards downgrading ecstacy it is all a bit silly really.  The classification scheme is meant to reflect the danger posed by taking certain drugs yet we have the government rejecting its experts own advice.  If they don't agree with classifying drugs then make all drugs the same category and be done with it.

Shows just how far the Poker boom has slowed if Bravo 2 is the only channel showing it.  I didn't even know there was a Bravo 2 until I discovered the WSOP the other night.  Challenge used to have the WSOP, WPT etc.  but nothing now.

Here we go again!  Slightly out of shot is a huge mug of tea so no marking down for that!!!

This is a very good effort. I'm particularly impressed by clean lines of separation between the ingredients (no messy overlap) and by those eggs, which have been cooked to perfection and transferred from pan to plate with the firm but gentle touch of an  explosives expert or a gynecologist.

Another plus is the bread, each slice of which has enough of what looks like real butter to clog at least one artery.

I have made slight deductions for poor item placement, i.e eggs awkwardly placed in middle, and bacon on very edge could cause plate tilting problems or, (heaven forbid) full blown tiddlywink effect when stabbing/cutting.

Your tea is invisible. If we allow this to go unpunished, it will open the door for others, perhaps more unscrupulous than yourself, to pass off completely empty cups as cosher mashings of Rosie. I'm deducting half a point.

While the bacon quality looks very good (extra mark for using streaky) the rind seems to have fallen just a little short of crispy, and the portion size is woefully inadequate. This has ultimately cost you what would have been a very good score.

Nice try Sov, but I have great hopes for you in this competition, and we both know that you can do better.

7.5/10

I believe the bacon in this fry up is Middle Bacon not Streaky.  A point should be deducted as Back Bacon is the only rasher fit for a top notch fry up.
