1  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Introduction and also a bit of a rant! on: March 23, 2006, 09:39:43 PM
thanks everyone for the welcome and opinions, i guess i don't really believe that online poker is rigged, it's more something to say in the heat of the moment. It's just i sometimes analyse how i played and especially the hands in which i went out of a tourney, and i can't see how i could've played any differently, in my eyes i played it as well as it could have been yet i still find myself the losing party. I think its this lack of someone to blame that leads me to turn on the software itself.

Also im glad to hear cincin is a good place to play, I think i will be paying it a visit in the near future! And also I have seen that WPT with the running 7's, the guy looked shellshocked and who could blame him!
2  Poker Forums / The Rail / Introduction and also a bit of a rant! on: March 23, 2006, 04:15:39 AM
First off i'll introduce myself, ive been reading this forum for a week or so because i was looking for discussions about the cincinnati club in Glasgow (where i'm from), just to see what it was like and what people thought of it as i was thinking of paying it a visit. I learned to play last year whilst in Ibiza on a particularly hungover day when my mate decided to pull out a pack of cards and teach a few of us and i've been hooked since. I have never played live before bar games with friends but i do play a fair bit online at William Hill (I chose William Hill because I already had an account with them that I used for other stuff)

Now this is where the 'rant' part of my post comes in. This poker software is surely, SURELY, rigged. I mean, i play poker quite a lot and i watch it even more, but i have never seen anything like some of the things i have seen on William Hill Poker. I'm generally not a bitter person and I only play small stakes tournaments so it doesn't really bother me too much, but in my opinion sometimes the tournaments become farcical. They clearly favour the chip leader and my opinion is that they want the tournament to end quickly so that they can get everyone into another. Why would William Hill want people to play a game that lasted ages when they can simply give all the chips to one person and the turnover of tables is a lot faster. I mean bad beats are expected but i have went runs of 9 or 10 tournaments in a row where i have went out on a bad beat, surely this goes way past the point of coincidence or bad luck? Tonight for example i have played 1 tourney, i was short stacked and had to push all-in with A8 and was called by the chip leader who had 77. I hit trip 8's before the river came a 7 and i was out, the saddest thing was i totally expected the 7 to come, even though it mustve been almost a 20 to 1 shot. but that's how many times this kind of thing happens (to me anyway). Dont get me wrong, I can go for spells where i win a lot also, but i can never seem to hold down any consistency (in the long run i break even) and i put it down to some awful bad luck. And when i hear of people making a good profit from playing online I wonder how they do it.

Now i could just be a naiive beginner player who thinks he is unlucky when he is just a bad player, but i really dont think this is the case. I believe myself to have a good grasp on the game and i am quite a tight player, not a complete nutter like most people on those low stakes tourneys. I am not a calling station, I play select hands and I have no problem laying down queens or kings if i think i am behind.  But sometimes my brain cannot comprehend the bad luck i get on there, which leads me to get quite frustrated at times and my love for the game is really tested. Perhaps its because the online game is so quick, i get to see a lot more bad beats than i do on tv (which i watch quite a lot to try and learn as much as possible)

Anyway sorry for the rant, if anyone has an opinion id like to hear it!

Cheers
