Most poker-related clothing is naff anyway, so the bracelet goes well with it.  Grin

I read most of the original thread at 2+2 and was quite annoyed by alot of the flamers saying he should have 'had a go' at the attacker (who had a knife).  But I suppose that's what you expect from most of the 16 year olds there.

Saying that, I agree he shouldn't have been carrying that amount of cash around on his own anyway.  Either get a cheque, arrange a wire transfer, or hire some muscle.

5  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: Where do you keep your bankroll? on: January 10, 2008, 03:40:54 PM
Hi Barry,

In answer to your question, I keep all my poker bankroll split between several sites - Stars, Full Tilt, DTD & Blue .  I used to use Neteller as an intermediary to transfer funds between sites but withdrew what little I was holding there last year when there was all the uncertainty about the future of Neteller.  However, my account is not closed, so I may resume using it again if necessary.

Another method of transferring funds is by friends on IRC.  Occasionally someone would ask to swap, say, $200 Stars for Full Tilt funds, and we tend to help each other out.  This is very quick and efficient, so long as you can trust the other people.  I've known them for a couple of years and have never had any problems so far.

Mark.

I really enjoyed the show.  Good content every week and lots of interesting interviews.

I do hope we see it back on air (or something similar) soon.

Thanks for all the replies.  There was certainly a mixed bag of opinions there.

In the end I made a "reluctant" call working on the ">2:1 odds" reasoning I mentioned earlier.  CO showed    , BB showed  .

However, I spiked my 8 on the turn and knocked both players out.  BB was not happy.

the thing you need to think about is the side pot and what sort of shape your in against and the pot odds your getting for that
This is the sort of things that I need to learn.  So you're saying I should only be calculating the pot odds on the side pot then?

Just to clarify, we were on a full table of 9.  This was still relatively early stages.  I just highlighted the key stack sizes.

I should have also explained that I rarely do the maths side of poker, mainly because I don't always know how to apply it (as is the case here).  I've often heard that you should usually call when getting 2:1 or more on a hand, although I accept that is probably a very generalistic statement.

Sorry, if the question does seem dumb to most.  I'm just trying to learn this side of the game.

Many thanks.
9  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / Hand from Sat APAT event - pot odds question on: December 17, 2007, 03:35:44 PM
In Saturday's APAT event, the following hand came up. I'd like some advice as to the best course of action here. This is really more of a pot odds question.

Stack sizes are as follows:
Me: ~9000
CO: 1100
BB: 4300

With blinds at 200/400, it's folded round to me in middle position. I have  . I raise to 1200, but the short-stack to my immediate left goes all-in for his final 1100.
The big blind thinks about it for a while, then pushes. I have to call 2700 into a pot of 6800.
BB has been playing very tight. Last time he did this, he showed QQ. I'm almost certainly behind, but I'm getting pot odds of 2.5:1 to call.

Should I make the call or not?
10  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: A look back at 2007 and your goals for 2008 (Pokerwise) on: December 13, 2007, 03:25:35 PM
One of my goals for 2007 was to work on my MTT game.  I've spent the last 2 years grinding away at SNGs, but I wanted to be able to challenge for the bigger tournaments.

I had a poor first half of the year and wasn't getting anywhere.  My bankroll was on a steady downward slope.  I'm not sure what turned it around, but I've had some nice results in the latter half of 2007:

- Won my first Stars 180 at last;
- Finished 3rd in Full Tilt $13.5k Guar for $1700 (disapointed to blow monster chip lead but still my biggest cash to date);
- Cashed in my first ever Full Tilt $750k Guar for ~$330

I also had some decent results playing live:
- APAT Cardiff - finished 17th for £300
- Finished 3rd in Gutshot £5 rebuy for £220
- Finished 2nd in APAT Regional last month for £199 (chopped 1st + 2nd)

My goals for 2008 are therefore to play more MTTs and work more on my game.  I'd also like to qualify for a major event, such as GUKPT.

Its funny, a year ago my response would have been something like 'I want to play in all the EPTs and some of the highest stakes games online'. But 12 months on I realised where the real value is in poker. Instead I would like to continue finding easy and profitable games online and reserve my tournaments for good value games - GUKPTs/DTDs/Green Joker Poker thingies.

This is exactly my thought as well.  Last year, I was saying I'd like to play in an EPT.  Now with the high buy-in, I realise this is near impossible for me to even qualify.  The GUKPT presents a decent high-profile tournament with a realistic chance of qualification from someone with my bankroll and modest ability.

it all depends what dave thinks carr will push with, its usually 50/50  here i.e smith's pair is either good or his FD will be. I thought carr played very well throughout, the last hand hu maybe played itself.
My thinking here is that Carr has shown real strength by betting, then pushing against Smith's raise.  What does Smith think he's beating?
A made flush puts Smith in trouble, or if he's on a flush draw then his 9 high may still not be good enough.
13  Poker Forums / Poker Hand Analysis / GUKPT Brighton - final hand on: November 02, 2007, 01:15:48 PM
I was watching the GUKPT heat in Brighton.  I want to discuss the final hand, and in particular the call by Dave Smith.  I'm trying to work out whether it was a really good, or really bad call.  At the moment, I'm in the opinion it was the latter.

Smith has

The flop comes down  xx all low diamonds.  Carr bets, Smith raises, Carr pushes all-in.

Smith has only top pair.  Although he does have a draw to the flush, it's still only 9 high.  He could effectively be drawing dead (we know that with Carr holding  Two Diamonds he's not, but Smith doesn't know that).

If he calls, he wins.  If he calls and loses, he'll be at a big chip disadvantage.

Smith has been outplaying Carr so far from what we've seen.  Does he really need to risk this sort of call?

Or am I missing something here?  Please someone explain this to me.

Funny story from the very first APAT event in Birmingham.  As you know in these events, Tikay likes to encourage everyone to clap when someone gets knocked out.  On our table, someone hit a Royal.  We all clapped, and others started joining in.  We had to say that no one had actually got knocked out.  Grin

I've had 2 in 3 years of playing.  Seeing as though the last one was about a year ago, I would say I'm about due for another.
