I was there, went into town after game knowing nothing of disaster. Got home to frantic wife (4 months married) still unaware. The closer you are to something, the less you know. The same thing happened to me at the Heysel Stadium. I am still pissed off that game was allowed to go ahead.
Amazing how many similar tales I've heard this week. Life before mobile phones and 24 hour news feels like a distant memory now.
I was born four days before the game and was still in hospital with my mum on the day of the game.
My dad (Celtic fan) got a lift to the game from my uncle and his mates (Rangers fans). After the game they went into town for a pint not knowing anything had happened.
Then my dad headed up to the hospital where my mum was sick with worry, because news had spread through the wards about the disaster.
