I bumped into Marcel-he said that there were over 600 runners and some of them were even worse than me.

Nic had a daughter, Kate, who played a bit of poker too. Think Keith had the hots for her.

I got to know Nic's daughter Kate quite well.

About 7 or 8 years ago we drew adjoining seats at a tournament in Brighton. She was good company at the table and we chatted for hours until she was moved during the last level.

We both made day two and as I was bagging my chips she appeared at my shoulder and asked me where I was staying. I told her that I was in the Old Ship Hotel, which was a budget place but nice and clean with friendly staff. She said she hadn't booked anywhere and asked if I would mind if she walked back with me so that she could get a room. Of course I agreed.

As we walked back to the hotel we made small talk about the days play and our prospects for tomorrow. She said her feet were killing her so she took her shoes off and walked barefoot.

When we got to the hotel there was no one on reception so we pressed a buzzer and waited. Eventually, a smiling gentleman arrived. Much to Kate's disappointment and to my absolute horror, Mr Smiley informed us that there were no rooms available. Bugger! I had already planned to accidentally on purpose bump in to her at breakfast and then walk her back to the casino.

She turned to leave. I offered to escort her to another hotel, and then, in a sudden fit of uncharacteristic boldness I blurted out, "Look, this is silly. I have a perfectly good room with a spare bed. You would be more than welcome to use it".

She turned to face me and looked directly into my eyes. I knew she was gauging my intentions. We stood in silence for what must have been about five seconds but felt like a lifetime, then she laughed and said "OK then, thank you. What's the worst that could happen?"

At that point the worst did happen. I woke up.

Very good. Kept me believing until the end.

The police duo in Smokey and the Bandit always made me chuckle.

Reminds me of two of my brother and I's favourite lines to quote as kids, involving another silly character,

"What are you boy, some kind of doomsday machine?" and:

Charles Grodin, the comic relief to De Niro in Midnight Run, but who truly excels as the scheming Tony Abbot in one of my childhood VHS favourites Heaven Can Wait.

Also, anyone who appeared in This Is Spinal Tap or Trading Places, even in the most insignificant of cameos.

From Bo Diddley, who's in both, to the Hermitage Club's 'five dollars, maybe I'll go to the movies...by myself' footman, everyone is superb.

ChippieLeicester?

One of the nicest and funniest guys I've had the pleasure to meet.

Geo

Met a girl from St.Neots and moved there.

He made a swashbuckling appearance in the D.C. game at Alea on a Tuesday night a few weeks ago. After losing gradually for the first hour, he patiently waited for a premium hand and was rewarded with   in Superstud, with the as his first up card, which he knocked his last £130 in with. After scooping with a pair of threes, he proceeded to run over the table before kindly allowing us to return to our small game by slinking back off to Cambridgeshire with over a £1,000 of our money.

Despite this, it was still great to see him again.

Looking to do some more poker coaching in 2015, pm or post here if you want to improve your game, MTTs (online / live) or live cash. Can do midday-8pm only, any day except sundays.

I'd be interested in some coaching for live MTTs. I'm particularly interested in developing a donk betting strategy for absolutely no reason and other key areas such as what to wear for tournaments - new ways to sit etc. Are hoody/shades a must in the modern game? I notice you had adopted new "chilled out relaxed" seating position during your recent success in Prague, do you think you could have achieved similar success without it? What's the hourly rate? Also in live cash I'm interested in calculating when is the perfect time to leave the game - I always seem to be winning but carry on and rarely finish at my peak!

Even better.

Will the coaching include heads up live play?

Too good.

Dr. Crippen, the Krays, Jack the Ripper; some of the most notorious and diabolical criminals in British history.

That was until the individual who compiled the DTD soundtrack elected to put Milli Vanilli on it.
On a loop.

I'm generally opposed to capital punishment, but on this one I'm siding with the hang'em brigade.

Cracking photo, this.

Who was playing who, in which Stadium, on what occasion, & when? Bonus points for naming 6 of the players in view.

Even Tighty won't get that without googling.

Clue - It was a Cup Final.

It was the final of the Watney Cup, a wonderfully barmy idea to have the top scorers in all the divisions of the football league play each other in a knock-out competition.

This picture shows the Rams, the second division side under Brian Clough, beating the first division's top scorers Manchester United 4-1.

The Watney Cup also saw the first ever penalty shootout to take place in England. The first player to miss in a penalty shootout...?

Denis Law.

Can barely believe I did that rub & the very next moment, PhilThePower turned up itt.

Two direct hits with one bullet.

Like most Derby fans, my sentiments about Leicester are pretty much summed up by Sky's poker playing presenter Helen Chamberlain, some years ago on Soccer A.M.

The Foxes were the fans of the week and when our then manager John Gregory rang in (dark days, very dark days-we even lost to Brentford under his stewardship) he was greeted by a chorus of boys, to which the splendid Miss Chamberlain exclaimed:

"Ah shadup, Derby hate Forest and Forest hate Derby and that's all there is to it!"

As I stood behind the goal at Wembley, absorbing our play-off defeat, surrounded by despair, I consoled myself with the thought, 'At least we'll return to this part of the world next year and witness the splendour of Griffin Park once again.'

The Fred Spread

The eye-watering differential between one night's winnings and the next night's losses.

Named after the extremes loving, swing seeking, bearded hero who has never come even remotely close to uttering the words "I finished level".

You felt the entire table in a 10k coup one day and you knock in the Ugandan national debt the next, otherwise you're not playing the game.

Brilliant mate congrats!

Think a name change is necessary. Scrap Fenix35, from now on it's Odds-on Dobson.
