1  Poker Forums / The Rail / Re: DUSK TILL DAWN - HAVE YOUR SAY AT THE COURT HEARING.............. on: August 07, 2007, 01:28:08 AM
I would like to play poker at Dusk Til Dawn because as a consumer of poker I feel it correct that myself and others are given the right to play in an environment which is both friendly and fair. Casinos that run poker predominantly don't do this correctly and favourably to keep players playing poker as they're trying to lure you through the door, and then get you off the poker to play their house edge games and therefore get you participating in what is on the whole degenerate gambling which, in the long run, will cause huge social and economical problems for the majority of participants.

As poker is a game of skill which sees the best players winning consistently over a period of time, it would be unfair to force an environment of degenerate gambling upon people who simply want a fair game of poker. Poker clubs that are currently open run the best games of tournament and cash poker in terms of structure, staffing, advertising and publicity. This is done by the clubs of course to make a profit and run a business but by no means in a way that is seen as unfair or predatory against it's consumers.

Casinos are seen very differently by the majority of poker players, and it would be unfair to force this upon players. There is a huge difference between gambling and gaming, and this should be recognised under the new laws to allow the well run businesses and good work that is going into poker only clubs continue for the long future.

Finally, and most importantly, surely it is not the business of the courts and casinos to decide whether there is demand for a service or not... things in this world are fuelled by supply and demand, and the only way to judge what is required is the test of time, if Dusk Til Dawn is required then once it opens it will flourish as a business and be financially successful so that it can continue, if it is surplus to requirements then it will not be financially viable and therefore will become financially unsolvent and have to close. It is also totally wrong for the casinos to have so much power in this way that they are effectively allowed to eliminate any competition simply by opposing it's existence.

If the casinos truly are interested in running good poker events then they would focus on creating better events than the card clubs to make people play them not by force but because they want to... the reason why they don't do this is simple, they can't do them as well as is currently shown by several poker-only clubs that are open and DTDpoker will be the pinacle of excellence which is why they're so determined to try and keep it closed.

New entry.... Solskjaer (me) played as Solskjaer1 as a guest next to Snoopy (SnoopG), and I came 12th in the Open.

Another point also with regards to 'Supply and Demand'... i'm sure you've all heard of this theory in business terms in general. The way this relates to poker in my mind is that it's a question of competition within the poker industry.

You will find that the more competition (more clubs) that are open, the better poker players will be treated as poker clubs will be looking to find things that make their services more attractive than other people which will result in better services for players.

If casinos get their own way, then they'll ensure their competition (places like DTD. Gutshot) are out of business so that they get the lion share of the players and therefore can treat them in whatever ways they so wish as regards to fees, rakes, etc... but if they don't get their own way then they'll have to think up of ways also to treat the common poker player in a way that's better than the other places to attract them there to play poker, and then in turn as often happens their casino games.

Signing the petition is a step forward for poker players for these reasons in my opinion... I'm sure that some of you will have conflicting views and I'm happy to hear them and reply to them,

Regards.

Apologies if my post was at all misleading, however I'm sure that you will agree what I'm asking you guys to do is a worthy cause, and worth five minutes of your time to sign the petition and also forward it to all of your poker playing friends.

Thanks.

Scott.

I am extremely concerned that the deadline for the petition to the PM to keep regulated card clubs open has so few signatures, and feel that this is not going to be taken seriously unless we obtain at least 10,000 signatures. Therefore I urge everyone that if you wish to help DTD open, and save places like The Western, Gutshot, etc. and keep well regulated card clubs in legal business to take action now.

Therefore I'm asking everyone who reads this to please send an e-mail to everyone they know to please sign the petition as soon as possible, and then in turn ask them to forward the e-mail to all the people they know, and so on... the closing deadling is June 5th

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Poker-UK/ - this is the URL to the petition... it will take just two minutes to sign, and then confirm your e-mail address. It will take maybe three more minutes to send the e-mail to all of your poker playing friends and ask them to forward it onto all of theirs.

For these five minutes, you could be making a life changing decision to how you can play poker in this country.

The petition you're signing is as follows:

We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to to classify Poker as a prescribed game under the 2005 Gambling Act, in line with the games of Bridge and Whist. More details

Submitted by Jonathan Curtis of UK Poker Club Association – Deadline to sign up by: 05 June 2007 – Signatures: 680

Thanks for your time in reading this, and thanks in advance for your efforts.

Scott.
