MrDickie

Great post

Didn't know Middleton existed!

Every June me and three pals go play golf in Norfolk, usual itinerary, Royal Cromer, Sheringham and then Kings Lynn on the way home.

Would it be possible to play Middleton on way home instead of Kings Lynn please?

More than welcome sir! Course will be infantastic condirtion in June and the Head Greeneeper has promosed us lightning fast greens. If its during the week give me a few days notice so i can take the time off "work"

Hello again everyone!

So I took up golf again during Covid when golf courses opened again. Move along another three months and them my boss said working from home is going so well I could make it permanent. We always holiday in Norfolk so it made sense to move there now rather when I retired.
We found a lovely house with a huge garden. Very rural but only 3 miles from Kings Lynn so easier access to London. We happen to back onto the 8th fairway of the local golf course and now it feels like we are living the dream. From now until October instead of my 50 minute commute from London to Essex I can be on the first tee within 10 minutes of leaving my "office". I still have to pinch myself sometimes. This time of year in the evening the birds of prey circle looking for an easy ducklings. Squirrels are everywhere and the odd deer can be seen skipping across the fairways. They asked me to be the Club Secretary last year which I gladly accepted. We also have a small group of about 20 of us called "The Middleton Old Boys" and for nine months of the year we play a different course in Norfolk every month. I'm not bothered about my handicap in anyway but I started off 26 three years ago and reached a low of 14.8 a couple of months ago. Lots of practice helps I suppose :-)
Middleton is a small community and the local village pub is only 10 mins walk away. I restrict myself to once a week. The only time I play poker now is if the pub is particularly quiet and I can find a corner to fire up the £2 deep stack on my phone to quietly while away the time.
Jules has never sung before but joined "Your Choir" when we moved here and loves it. She has met many friends through it as well. We were driving to Sandringham a couple of years ago as she was singing there as part of the Queens Jubilee celebrations neither of us could quite believe it.
We only 20 mins drive to the coast as well and the dogs have a blast there. We also have many beautiful walks around here so that's how I spend my lunch hour every day.
I also love my electric bike. The tyres were pumped up and chain oiled and we went for our first ride of the year yesterday evening. The village closest to us is North Runcton which is gated as it has cows roaming freely. The other side is miles of open countryside.
Its so weird to think that Covid is responsible for all of this.
Times have moved on now and I have to spend two days a month in the office. I do this consecutively as if you book in advance a Travelodge is only about £100 a night. I drive to nearby Watlington station to get to Kings Cross. Its a tiny unmanned station which is only 4 carriages long and so quaint. Parking is only £1 for 24 hours as well. Its nice to go back to the City though and eat in some decent restaurants and have a good lunch. WFH lunches always seem to be either soup or a sandwich! But soon the greenhouse will be full of salad. I also make a trip once a month to play golf with my work colleagues and normally pick somewhere north of the M25.
If anyone ventures over this way and fancies a round you are more than welcome.

May bore you all with some pictures as well but for now clubs have to be cleaned as we are teeing off at 8.42 am tomorrow.

This make my blood boil. Am I missing something here or am I simply a grumpy old man? Saw it only once and it nearly made me vomit.

Season’s greetings and thanks for keeping the diary going. I had a look back to page 1 today and found it hard to believe that I had been following (all of this dribble  ) for so long now.
From serious stuff to arguing over how to make a proper cuppa or to push or pull a lawnmower I have loved it all so many thanks for this.
Now for some serious stuff. What is on the menu for Christmas lunch tomorrow?

Where did all of this "reaching out" crap come from?

Received a few e.mails with it now 3 in the same day!

"I was just reaching out to see if you would like to arrange a time"

"Thanks for reaching out to me"

Not sure if right area to post but I am thinking of switching my pension portfolio out of equities entirely and into cash until all of this is sorted.
I am 55 now and suddenly thinking about this sort of thing.

Not that it would interest anyone but me, but I had some good news last week, when my Contract was renewed for another 12 months. That does not mean I'll be there another year, only that, if both parties remain agreeable, then there's a deal in place until January 31st 2019.

What on earth makes you think we would not be interested in this. Great news and very happy for you.

Bit of a shock this but wishing you all of the best.

Would you prefer grapes, flowers or a sticky bun?

Take it easy and enjoy the racing and a spot of reading in the meantime.

New Delhi restaurant

ON Friday, December 2, we published a story titled ‘Rat-infested eatery re-opens’ in relation to the New Delhi restaurant on Caerleon Road, Newport.

We are happy to clarify that the rodent infestation referred to was in fact mice.

Officers revisited the premises on September 30 and not on October 3, which we published based on information which was provided to us.

We apologise for the error.
