Hi all - an official statement from GCBPT Tour Manager Mark O'Donnell:

"While we’ve have had two fantastic years running the ‘Great British Poker Tours’, we’ve now decided to look at a number of new events and promotions for 2009 that will not only excite our players but are of great value and are accessible to poker players of all levels.

"Through our poker websites (galapoker.co.uk, coralpoker.com and eurobetpoker.com) we are already planning to run more satellites than ever to the world’s biggest poker tournaments including European Poker Tour  (EPT), World Series of Poker (WSOP) and Aussie Millions.

"Our online schedule also continues to evolve with over $14m guaranteed in prizes every month and includes Guest List – a $10k new player freeroll - as well a new weekly $300k ‘ChampionChip’. We are also looking at offering a number of other significant tournaments over the next couple of months. Details will appear on galapoker.com, coralpoker.com and eurobetpoker.com when these tournaments are confirmed."

I thought you might appreciate the heads up.  Also, thanks to all those who came along to the Nottingham GCBPT, whether to play or show your support.  Videos of interviews I had with players (including George2Loose) and spectators can now be found here:

I look forward to seeing you in Bristol!

Cheers,

Ollie.

I take the point about preflop - I should probably have folded, though he had been chucking out min raises very frequently preflop, so I thought his range might be quite wide and I could donk postflop (I turned out to be wrong about this).

Postflop I just felt that, if Villain had a hand, the action would have sped up a lot considering our stack sizes in relation to the pot - but given that he had slowplayed big hands in this way before, I wanted to get to the showdown without committing my entire stack and show a hand which could beat the low end of his range (I took the high end to be a king, but this didn't seem likely).  I thought all the way through - 'he's min raising and min betting here, that shows very little strength doesn't it?'

Anyway, the showdown is as follows:

** Showdown **
Villain shows [ , ] high card Ace
Hero shows [ , two spades ] a pair of Deuces
** Hand Conclusion **
Hero wins 2,000 from main pot with a pair of Deuces
************  Game 329245377 ends  ************

This really isn't a hidden brag or anything, because I think on the whole I lucked out after playing the hand quite strangely.

Is this the worst play ever by me (hero)?  A few things to bear in mind -

- I'm the shortstack here at a relatively late stage of the Sit & Go and, though it's a min bet each time, it actually accumulates to = nearly half my original stack
- How do you rate the flat call to the min-raise preflop?
- Villain is an EXTREMELY strange player, a calling station who has a tendency to lead out post flop with pot sized bets
- Villain has occasionally been caught playing big hands overly slowly

Why has Leeds been dumped? Seemingly in order to have two festivals in Bristol.  This leaves a large area of country with no local festival and a lot of people disappointed. Sad

Sorry it took me a while to get back to you one this, it’s a busy time at the mo as you can imagine (Edinburgh is only a few weeks away!) We decided to pull Leeds from the tour this year because seeing as we’re able to hold main events in Liverpool and Teeside, we felt we were able to represent the north sufficiently.  Obviously it’s hard to take a major city like Leeds out, but logistically and operationally it just wasn’t the best location for us.

Cheers,

Ollie

PS - A quick heads up - there are 2 last chance online qualifiers running on Wednesday and Thursday this week for the Edinburgh main event  – each with 2 guaranteed packages.  That is if you haven't already got a seat Wink

Hello everyone, my name’s Ollie and this is my first post, but hopefully one of many to come!  I’m here as a poker enthusiast and also as a representative of the Gala Casinos British Poker Tour and I’ll be able to field any questions or queries you might have about the upcoming GCBPT (that's the reason I'm replying to this thread!).

I’ve been a big poker fan (and poker student) for two years now, so I hope to get chatting about some interesting hands and any poker tales I pick up from the upcoming Gala Casinos Tour (which I’ll be following closely).

I can now confirm the official dates and locations of the main events:

Date
 Location

27 Feb - 2 March
 Gala Maybury Casino, Edinburgh

16 - 20 April
Gala Casino Maid Marian Way, Nottingham

18 - 22 June
 Gala Harbourside Casino, Bristol

17-21 Sept
 Gala Casino, Liverpool

22 - 26 Oct
 Gala Casino Stockton-on-Tees

1 - 7 Dec
Grand Final, Gala Harbourside Casino, Bristol

I’ll actually be turning up to the festival events and, hopefully, having a go myself (seeing as I’m not a Gala Casino’s employee), so I hope to see some of you there.  In fact, I’ll be posting interesting stuff I – and my video camera – find from the tour so if you have any ideas about the type of content you’d like to see beyond bad beats, tricky hands and colourful characters, please let me know.

Cheers,

Ollie
