Totally. It has dated somewhat, as any thriller/action film made on that small a budget (arguably) would, but still a great movie.

The scene with the little girl and the ice cream van - I remember my jaw hitting the floor first time I watched that....

I'd like to say all the best to Dpommo at the last table - I play against him occasionally and he's a nice guy who's very talented. Be a great thing to see another player from Betfair win a big tourney.

On ye go son!

Exact same thing happened to me Bongo, on VC about a year ago. Really strange thing was, there was only 3 of us playing. Never forget it as I had the top set, flop came Q 10 3 and after much betting, raising and re-raising we got it all in on the flop only for the final 3 to come out on the river.

Bah!

I've passed KK a couple of times pre-flop, but only once in a cash game. $5/10 NL 9 handed (it was on VC, ages ago) and I get KK in middle position with about $850. Raise it to $50 (at this point I'm seen as being fairly tight, haven't really played too many hands) some guy (who also hasn't played a hand in ages) about two off the button goes all in for about $900, so he has me covered.

Rightly or wrongly I passed, I was probably playing with about 30% of my bankroll at the time and my notes said that he occasionally likes to play AA in such a way. Don't know if I should of called, but felt at the time it was probably the correct thing to do based on the way both he and I had been playing (he must of known that I had only been playing good cards that session).

Was the lesson learnt about playing with too much of your bankroll at stake?

Well......

I'd love to play in one. Used to play in the $1k omaha tourneys on VC, before they reduced it to $600 and then just got rid of them.

Would we be able to arrange one through crypto?

Interesting stuff so far. Heres mine, though I'm afraid its betraying my former film student ways a tad.....

My top 15 (couldn't manage top 10):

Rear Window
Sonatine
Andrey Rublev (Russian movie, very long but like nothing else)
Evil Dead 2 ("Groovy")
Destry Rides Again
The Thin Red Line (1998 version)
The Thing (John Carpenter version)
Paris, Texas (cinematography is amazing)
Oldboy (a new one, and a good one)
My Girl Friday
The Hidden Fortress
Aliens
The Godfather
Rio Bravo (most imitated western ever?)
Annie Hall (for everything)

Ands thats leaving out way too many films I really love.....

Funniest/hardest thing to watch is after when he's obviously given someone a hard time then inflicted a bad beat on them (and started roaring) is how he then goes to stand up and shake their hand and looks slightly hurt when they don't want to!

The 'I'm going to wait down the nearest dark alleyway' look of his opponents kinda says it all, but yeah, great to watch in a cringeworthy 'The Office' kind of way....

13  Poker Forums / The Rail / Start as you mean to go on... on: October 06, 2005, 04:54:40 PM
Don't know if this will make much sense, but here goes....

Does anyone else find that when you sit down to start a session, how you are and 'feel' at the start tends to absolutely crucial?

For example, when playing online its seems to me, partly due to the nature of online poker (namely, its immediacy - you can play whenever you want) that how you prepare mentally for a session is crucial. When I start playing with no thought and no real effort into actually thinking about my game I often, as you'd expect, perform poorly. I get home, go into my room, logon, pick a table and start playing. Having sat down a bit stressed I start to gamble too much to relieve the stress and suprise suprise, I'm down fairly quickly. Winning sessions often follow on from when I've been reading a poker book, really thinking about my game or about what to do with certain hands in certain situations.

One thing I do is often say to myself several times that I'm gonna have to make a great laydown this session, just to get rid of those crying calls when you've got a great hand, you just know it's beat but call anyway. This just settles me, helps me to regain focus/discipline and helps me to not tilt if such a hand arises.

So what I want to ask fellow Blondites, is does anyone have a certain way of preparing or starting that they wouldn't mind sharing with the rest of us desperate online poker freaks?

I think the read a book advice is pretty good. I always hit the books or try to break my usual routine when I not only think I've had a series of bad beats but also started playing bad.

Once you've had a few bad sessions it's easy to go back in wondering how you will lose your stack this time. The hand with the set of kings seems to be the same sort of thing. It was a good hand, you maybe could of went all in or played it more aggresively on the turn (a tendency to slowplay big but vulnerable hands is another horrible thing about tilt), I don't know what you bet, but called on the end even though you knew you were behind. You probably played the hand half expecting to suffer a bad beat. We all do it from time to time.

The key is to do something that still keeps you focussed on poker but breaks you out of the 'how much am I gonna lose today' mindset. Why not play a game you don't normally (at low stakes of course) or try a relatively inexpensive MTT and treat it as a bit of fun - in short, don't play like your life depends on it. Take a time out, don't get stressed, give it a day or two and say to yourself that now you're gonna play your 'A' game.

Good luck.
