i was on st elmo road which were pretty nice houses compared to becklow etc which ran alongside , seperated by elmo chippy at the top end of both . spent lot of time in ravenscourt park which in the early 80s had a huge adventure playground that would give parents a heart attack these days . very dangerous rope swings which were often two or three on , with quite a drop.

as for the 3 people , i knew you would ask ...

roger daltrey

gary hibberd (locked up for heathrow airport  robbery , which ended up with a non jury retrial after 3 i think trials collapsed for jury members getting paid or more likely threatened) . first trial without a jury or something like that. .

eddie newton chelsea 1997 . ruud gullit manager , zola up front , vialli on the bench . remember it like yesterday even though i cant stand 99% of chelsea "fans" , not often you see your mate in a match like this.

eddie was a teachers worst nightmare . to be honest his whole class was full of lunatics , the school (cardinal vaughan) , had a streaming system , 3 tiers clever kids up top , thickos and troublemakers at the bottom. he would have definetely been expelled years before he finished if he was not so good at football. our team won the ****ing lot including national final played at craven cottage against the best northern secondary school team.

my favourite memory from that school, were the food fights in a huge canteen. one sausage flying across the room and that was it, everyone scooping up mashed potato, bowls of custard , half eaten pies and launching them all over. most of the time towards the side of the hall where all the teachers sat for lunch. fun times.

bias aside , i reckon liverpool will finish top fairly easily . arsenal 2nd chelsea 3rd city 4th . boring selections i know , but i just dont see villa or spurs get there

would happily take a friendly wager that utd finish outside top 6

hopefully this thread will carry on into general footy chat over the season

whoever your team is , post your thoughts about anything and everything that makes you happy or drives you mad

international break 1st week of september ffs

cant wait for this weekend with the footy starting

will be looking out for QPR having grown up in the bush , used to go all the homes when they had the plastic pitch and a half decent team

but the main course is next weekend when the pool  start again

might start a footy thread for the season , seeing as we have a few more people posting recently. might just leave it to the united thread which should be fun this season

Wagwan bagel bloke.

Whereabouts in Shepherds Bush? I was very familiar with the area between Goldhawk Road & Uxbridge Road back in the day & despite being a Brentford fan, I had many happy afternoons at Loftus Road. They had some tremendously entertaining players over the years, including Rodney Marsh, Stan Bowles, Terry Venables (this was after his headline years at Chelsea & Spurs) & my personal favourite, Don Givens.

Do please start a football thread or two, you never know, we might yet rev blonde up a bit.

Anyway, above all that, this might just be THE best line ever seen on this Diary....

Love it. Now I'm going to have to watch Top Boy all over again, loved the street they used in that.

In a bit, cuz.

uxbridge and goldhawk ha. my ends.

i lived just off askew road which you must know well by the sound of it . used to go to sulgrave boys club tuesday and thursday nights , 2 full size snooker tables , pool table , arcade games , counter selling chocolate and microwaved pies. five a side gym on top floor , most popular game was "blazers in the dark" which was normally 20 odd teenagers , 2 footballs , lights turned out which was pitch black , and if and when you felt the ball, boot it as hard and low as possible . copped one where it hurts which still makes me wince.

if they published an alumni it would be interesting

think their most famous 3 old boys are a genuinely famous uk singer who was the front man  of a massive band , an armed robber who got 18 years for a unique case that was a first in uk legal history (was always a very nasty bully, made the blokes in top boy look like angels) , and a good mate of mine who i spent a lot of time in detention with, who scored in the FA cup final and got a winners medal...

Life is like walking in snow. Turn to look behind and we can see the footprints we made, nothing can be done to change them. Face forward and there’s a blanket of untrodden fresh snow. We can make whatever impression we want. Think that’s a metaphor and I’ve got loads of them.

very true

some on here may not have read about this

https://www.pokerlistings.com/news/stuart-rutter-working-with-prisoners-the-polar-opposite-of-poker-73794#:~:text=Stuart%20Rutter%20is%20one%20of%20the%20many%20poker,works%20with%20prisoners%20and%20teaches%20them%20real-world%20skills.

when stuff like this happens , past history should 100% be listened to and taken into account. no different in principle to a court of law.

i am not making any excuses for what stu did . i have never met him , but have spoken and done lots of stakes over many years.

as mc said , stu is not well. i genuinely believe that . others wont. we are all adults and can come to our own conclusions.

many people will disagree , but i really think its time to lock this thread, if not remove it . 100% of the uk  poker community know all about what went on in vegas. nobody is learning anything new about that . as for the football, i heard about this after the vegas stuff happened , i am from liverpool so you can guess my thoughts on it. i have been directly affected by the issues stuart has just raised, on more than 1 occasion. both close friends ,both men of similar age as well. its sadly all too common. this is the only reason i have not said anything about that.

i am not for one minute downplaying both incidents. you cant defend either of them, but can try to add some context.

i am gutted , upset and of course angry about all of this ,but do not understand what keeping this thread open is going to achieve.apart from something happening that nobody wants to see.

I received the balance owed from Vegas today, I think most other stakers were paid out beforehand. I have also checked all the 2024 entries I could and found no discrepancies. I believe stu hit rock bottom this year during his trip and that's why he did something so stupid. It's almost impossible to prove, maybe he could via his loyalty card or something but I think we'll never really know.

I have an outstanding balance with Stu from previous live tournaments and have consented to pay off over time whilst he gets his shit together. This trip ruined his career, which is partly why I didn't want to go into full details despite feeling I had to say something even though it felt fairly unlikely he would hurt anyone else.

This hurts me personally tbh, and I've expressed how I fell with Stu but I wish him the best with fixing everything and sorting his shit out.

i initially worried about the 2nd bullets taken over the last year or so . having trawled through tons of back and forth messages , there were a few times that stu did not buy in second time, either for not enough big blinds or family stuff etc , so am now pretty confident that it was not happening before vegas . also the GUKPT high rollers (which was often the tournament played) are smallish fields where everybody mostly know each other , they are also streamed live on you tube with regular leaderboard updates , and commentary saying who busts out etc. pretty difficult to fake entries in my opinion.

its impossible to get away from the fact that stu did something completely and utterly out of order , so dont think i am on a crusade to try and say everything is ok . its clearly not. he has been spot on for years in everything from my end, as a very regular buyer of smallish bits.

he wont be the first good person to do a bad thing, and he wont be the last.

Stu has done something very out of character,

I feel as his friends, and people who have known him for such a long time, the prime concern here is Stu's welfare, and I'm not sure it would be fair on him for this all to be aired on a public forum.

i completely agree with all of this
