well i dont know about the rest of you but i think that owen hargreaves was the best player for england by far.

his tackling, passing, hard work and pure passion were a sight to behold and over shadowed many of his more illustrious team mates.

i have spent many conversations ridiculing mr hargreaves over the last few weeks regards him warranting a england place but its time to eat humble pie and say the guy deserves his placee and i think will be the answer and energy in the england midfield for years to come.

Man of the Match tonight in my opinion.  Played fantastic and took his penalty well.

I agree, but his penalty wasn't the greatest Wink

Good enough for Bayern and a European Cup medal at 22 and we doubted him.

Shame on us!

He never let us down in the last world cup either.

i think hargreeves wont make the next starting 11 as there is no room in the england midfield for him unless you make it a 5 or play him on the left or gerard on the right dropping either cole or beckham

his england future is as a sub or either gerard or lampard getting injured

but i do think he was the best player for england for the duration of the championship

Interesting idea Iron, Mourinho agrees. (Read Sky Sports today)

Why not play Gerrard on the right where he has played a lot of this season for Liverpool? Beckham is useless.

I still think that Carrick is the better player (you'll never see Man U bidding £20million for Hargreaves) and I would play Gerrard where Beckham is.

Tonight was without doubt the night for 'wprld class' players to show themselves... i think the only one who did from the premiership was henry, and i didnt even eatch the france game, just no he scored when it mattered.... a real shame.... that is the best squad, though disimatted, we will have for 10 years.....

Hargreaves waited an eternity to be played in his natural position and when he finally got the nod he delivered.  It is right to say he will remain a bench player as in the new manager we just have a ginger version of the old one.  All the best teams have a holding player in the middle but I doubt Mr Maclaren will have the bottle to leave out one of his big names.

Dropping Joe Cole would not improve Hargreaves chances of playing it has to be Frank 'don't blame me' Lampard but he will still get a game regardless of it being to the detriment of England winning.

frank lampard has consistently delivered for england for 3 years. owen hargreaves for just 6 weeks.

i agree hargreaves deserves his place and in my opinion its beckham that should be sacraficed with gerrard moving onto the right.

its an ideal time to start leaving beckham out now hes gave up the captaincy but i doubt maclaren will have the balls.

Frank Lampard is a geuinely good player who had a rotten world cup, previously he has performed for England.  If England are to play 4 - 4 - 2 then a straight choice between Gerrard and Lampard needs to be made.  We all know who would win that vote dont we?

Moving Gerrad to the right would be counter productive and given Steve Gerrard wants to play central and is the best player we have for that role.

Moving Gerrard to the right does not get the best out of him and would hinder the progress of Lennon who clearly has the ability to be very effective at International level.

Beckham should have retired but he seems determined to pay for another two years.  If Engalnd play 4 - 5 - 1 we leave Rooney up on his own as we did against Portugal and that did not work.  Those of you who feel Lampard should play I wonder how you would fit him in?

My team 4- 4 -2 (when all fit) Robinson, Neville, Cole, Terry(C), Ferdinand, Gerrard, Hargreaves, J Cole, Lennon, Owen & Rooney
