its because its LOCAL NEWS the bbc news at 6 pm gives you the national and international news

if you lived in birmingham you would get the news with a birmingham swing and about midland MPs at 6 30

its part of the broadcasting agreements that the BBC and ITV have to coply with LOCAL news aswell as NATIONAL and international news

if you dont like it there is enough choice ie watch the bbc at 6pm and itv at 6:30 meaning you miss the local news and just get national and internation stuff

as for tommy sheridan its a non story but he/was the leader of a political party with a seat in the scottish parliment

if a leader of a party in the london assembly was caugh up in the same stuff 6:30 on the bbc in london all they would get is the same chit we are getting now

my personal choice is watch the A-Team at 6 pm and get the international news on bbc news24 or sky news when i want it without the local slant

Hard to believe this needed explaining!

of course we need local news and i for 1, like hearing the local news. as for Tommy, the press have tried to sabotage his career and marriage and he is right to take it to court. i feel really sorry for his wife who is stuck to his side like glue. i wouldnt be if there was a shread of truth in the stories.
I once totally embarrassed myself in front of tommy. i was a at a conference and i was going to give him my opinion on the legalisation of drugs. i approached him and all that came out of my mouth was 'tommy, youre my hero' WHAT A BRASS NECK!! i had never intended to say that. well now, although i hope he kicks ass in court, he no longer is my hero as he has brought himself down to the level of the rest of the scum in the government. i need a new local socialist hero. anyone know any?

90% of the new is abit pointless though.  How does myself learning about Tommy Sherridan have a benefit over my life in any way. It doesn't.   Also, on the Scottish news have you noticed that they always do a Celtic and Rangers report even during the off season.  One of the main news stories even if there isn't a story to report on is Scottish football.  They don't even limit this to the sport section, they visit the story and then return to it during the sports report.  What is the point over reporting on a footballer who hails from some unknown club in South America coming to play in Scotland. Does that really warrant a ten minute report?

I will stick to news  Cheesy

Fair enough if the remit is local news however my gripe is the crap that gets reported versus what gets omitted. Reading my local rag there are always 4/5 stories about people being arrested and assaulted with a variety of weapons ranging from katanas, baseball bats and paving slabs every week but watching the Scottish news you hear about the odd serious news story but the rest of the half hour is taken up by a variety of tedious human interest rubbish almost every night. So what if Donald Trump is thinking about NOT building a golf resort near Aberdeen, neither am I!

Exactly mate, that is what I mean. Lots of the stories are non-stories thought up just to kill 5 minutes of the allotted time slot

come on jinky. there must be something that interests you in the local news. i dont see it as being differrent from other news in respect of covering stories that dont affect our day to day lives, still, it affects someones life. that golf range is important to someone Smiley
sark, we hear crap about english politicians on a day to day basis. at least tommy is local. i agree that peoples love lives should not make headlines but the point the press are making is that he is no longer to be trusted. the english make the same points about their public people. its called politics and points scoring. thats one reason i wouldnt put myself up as a local politician. does not matter what your values are. you get to big for your boots, someone will come along and report dirt on you. not that ive got any, but they make it up anyway.
what kind of news would you want in scotland out of interest and do you think we can keep everone happy?

I guess there is so little happening in Scotland on a daily basis, they have to make a story out of nothing.  Get a story and then report on it until it has be completely reported from every conceivable angle.  I am looking forward to the twenty minute Scottish Curlers reports during the next Winter Olympics.  They are always good for helping with my insomnia

The news north west local news isn't as bad as the scotland news, and neither was the south today (and midlands today if I moved the antenna a bit) programme when I lived in Oxfordshire.

An area with a population of over 5million people, you'd think they would find something else to report on besides stupid goings on in Edinburgh! Or two football teams that couldn't even make it in the championship let alone the premiership.

I agree everyone should have access to local news and TV is a great outlet for that. But thats not the complaint here. The complaint is that scottish local news is shite. And I agree! I could be better, but I doubt its going to be. Its like the Daily Record, covered with bias.

The population of these areas is approx 10-15 million & anytime I see these regional news programmes I reckon they are completly amateurish as well, its not just an stv thing.

Mikky you should be quite happy you haven't made the news yet  Cheesy
