In the news tonight

A gentleman called Gary was driving through Leeds last summer in his company van. He had 10 points on his licence and unfortunately for him was flashed. He was so worried about being banned because his job required him to drive that he decided to take action

By profession he is a welder, and trained with industrial explosives. At midnight that night he blew up the speed camera in question.

Unfortunately he went wrong in two respects.

The explosion did not destroy the hard drive of the camera so the record of his flash earlier that day remained

Furthermore he had parked in front of the camera before setting his explosives and just before the camera expired it flashed him again

This gave the police rather an open and shut case!

Sadly for him, with a wife and young family and financial difficulties since losing his job after the incident, he was today sentenced to four months in jail.

I laugh at his ineptitude and I feel sad for him and his family, especially the kids, too.

The other thing was that he didn't know that his van had a tracker in it and they placed at the scene using it.

This guy sounds like an above-average IQ Yorkshireman.

If it worked, he'da been a genious (but we wouldn't know about it)

If he went to court and pleaded hardship, they would have banned him for 2 weeks and given him a fine.

But instead, he tried to be *clever*  by driving his tracker equipped van to the speed camera in question and then tried to blow it up???. By doing this, he has lost his job, his house and has been sent to prison for 4 months while his young family fend for themselves.

Still, I admire ingenuity in all it's manifestastions.

That's how we came up with the Spitfire innit?
