I'd think I'd rather hit trips.

What's the best way to get these hands paid?

Should you just bet the flop?

i think a small raise on river might have led to tom making a stab at it of atleast calling a $5 or $10

you were nver going to double up with quad aces

It's that fine line between making the small value bet or betting big to make it look like a bluff.

In general though, I sometimes feel like betting quads as soon as they hit is the best option. How often do you get paid by trapping?

Well, seeing that it's destructive to hide from your mistakes, here's a hand where I played excruciatingly badly and gave the old dog a bit of charity.

** Game ID 302417102 starting - 2005-08-28 16:04:38
** Pall Mall [Hold 'em] (1.00|2.00 No Limit - Cash Game) Real Money

- slimjim9 sitting in seat 1 with $90.00
- RED-DOG sitting in seat 4 with $354.81
- ANTHEM sitting in seat 5 with $113.80 [Dealer]
- snoopylq sitting in seat 7 with $470.95
- KTB sitting in seat 8 with $142.40

snoopylq posted the small blind - $1.00
KTB posted the big blind - $2.00
** Dealing card to snoopylq: 8 of Spades, 7 of Hearts
slimjim9 called - $2.00
RED-DOG called - $2.00
ANTHEM folded
snoopylq called - $2.00
KTB checked

** Dealing the flop: 8 of Diamonds, Ace of Clubs, 7 of Spades
snoopylq bet - $10.00
KTB folded
slimjim9 folded
RED-DOG raised - $20.00
snoopylq raised - $50.00
RED-DOG raised - $170.00
snoopylq went all-in - $419.95
RED-DOG went all-in - $182.81

** Dealing the turn: Queen of Diamonds

** Dealing the river: 4 of Diamonds
RED-DOG shows: Ace of Diamonds, 7 of Diamonds
RED-DOG wins $711.62 from the main pot

End of game 302417102

What I was thinking, I will never know.  Tongue - but at least the chips went to a good home.

If red Dog had Pocket jacks you may have got your $46 bet called! - he's so tight you know!  Grin Cheesy

I reckon he still would have let it go.  Grin

I think the best strategy is to bet the quads and then check the turn if you get the call. This gives them a liscence to stick in a bluff if they were drawing or a bet if they now think they're ahead.

Or is it best just to trap the flop? hmm
