Unlike cats, dogs can't recognise 2D images, they only see in black and white and they don't focus well on stationary objects. A dog's eyes are designed to see movement.
Your telly watching dog is probably reacting to the sound. Dogs rely heavily in smell and hearing, sight comes a very poor third in order of importance.

I used to have two cats, Bobby and Bonny. Bonny loved to sit on top of the TV when the snooker was on and try to swat the balls away as they came along the screen. It kept my entertained for hours.

Lol Sark - have these wonderful images of her in the dead of night holding her cards with her magic opposeable claw, shades, ipod.........and having a whale of a time with her mates round Bainn's poker table......
LOL Bainn - still, she didn't cash in the $1k Added Sunday Value $2000 Guaranteed MTT tonight, to be fair, did she? Shall have to re-assess her pocket money if she is actually making money on the side from her nighttime activities of poker playing on the quiet.

I have done my money many times and occasionally done my watch and had to sell the telly.
But to do your watch, telly and animals too, that must have been some losing session.

My dog doesn't care about the TV at all, not even when a dog barks.

Basically stick a cardboard cutout sprayed with a bit of your aftershave in front of a dog and he'll think it's you..
