i was playing a small cash game this morning when i encountered the most unbelievable abuse from a player. this consisted of- him wishing my children get leukaemia then that he would want to groom them for sex, that i got aids and finally that i was "paki scum". this occured 6 hours ago and ive spent most of that time considering what my options are. friends ive spoken to think i should report it to the site (w/hills) and let them decide appropriate action. however i feel in light of things said this may well be a matter for the police. all input most wecome.

Report it to the Site, the Police won't do anything.

It's distressing, but you just have to report these numbskulls, then forget about them.

You have the guys alias, I assume?

You need to report it to the room anyway, so the player can be identified. Hopefully they'd be able to pull up a copy of the chat (which you would need if you wanted to bring the police into it).

At the moment you have nothing to tell the police because you have no evidence.

You shouldn't have to take any abuse like that at any time.

First thing you need to do is report the matter to the poker site, in this case William Hill.  If you do decide to go to the police,  William Hill will have to give them the person's information - as you'll only have their site nickname.

Report it.  Then you can decide if you want to involve the police or not.

I would be surprised if William Hill do not ban him.  They will have logs of everything he said, and any sort of abuse like that is against their site usage policy.

Keep us informed about what happens - and best of luck with it.  I hope you cleaned the ****** out.

WHAT???

That's disgusting. How can anyone justify being that immature and pathetic. Just sick. I'm shocked.

Definitely report it to William Hill.

The police can do something, the chat logs are stored - if the player is in the UK he can definately be prosecuted.
If the police ask for the players details from will hills they will find it hard to refuse.

If it was a different ( ie foreign ) network, then who knows.

I would report it to will hill, and be tempted to go to the police.  Maybe when you report it say that you are considering involving the police and see if they're likely to be co-operative.

Good luck

Even though William Hill are a UK company, the Cryptologic servers are offshore and I would imagine all the important poker data is stored there (so it would not be William Hill's property to relinquish to police).

Don't get your hopes up about any prosecution - there will always be internet name-calling, unfortunately, and the UK police are not really in a position to do anything about it (not when all the police's internet bods are dealing with paedophiles and terrorists).

The police may well be interested in that.
Good luck.

I just don't think he'd make ANY progress via the Police.

well, he possibly would if he reported it to them, definitely wouldn't if he didn't.  I can't see there's any harm in reporting it.

thnx all for your advise and sympathies. i have reported the matter to hills who inform me that CrocDunde is not a patron of theirs but they will investigate the text log and the poker manager will make a decision what action to take, which i may or may not be informed of. having taken on board all opinions posted and now feeling some what calmer(a trouble shared...), i feel i should hope hes banned and then forget the idiot as hes had far to much effect upon me as it is and the legal issues seem very convoluted.

Hope something gets done for you, there are far too many idiots about on line.  I've had some abuse aimed at a small photo I have of my little girl just because I beat them in a pot for a few dollars, it's not nice but for what it's worth, don't take any of it personal, they are just idiots and I expect 99% of them don't appreciate and mean what they are saying and more than likely don't say anything like that in real life but think they can get away with it on the internet.  I'm not making excuses for them, just hoping that you don't let it affect you too much Smiley

Let us know how you get on.
