Hi, does anyone know if the phone unlocking services online are reliable.

My phone packed up this morning - bought a cheap Nokia pay as you go and tried to transfer my SIM card from the contract I have with vodafone to the new phone - didn't like it.

You can get unlock codes on -line - anyone have any experience with this ?

Thanks

Do a bit of googling and you should be able to find it for free.

I did (over a year ago so can't remember where) and it worked a treat.

Never used any of the online sites bud but up in Glasgow there are number of retailers who will unlock a phone for you if you take it in.  I don't think the unlock codes are what your looking for ...  normally these only unlock a sim that is compatible with the phone say for example u where transferring a vodafone sim into a vodafone handset.  It would work if you where transferring a vodafone sim to an Orange handset.

Hope that makes sense.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying there, GlasgowBandit.

You can buy a PC USB link cable on Ebay for your phone for a fiver, for another fiver on ebay you will also get unlocking software for that phone. Some care needed: phones occassionally stop working completely if this goes wrong.

Thanks, googled and didn't find anything free - decided to take a big gamble and spend £4.50 with unlocks.co.uk

For info, this wasn't a SIM unlocking issue, it's related to Tesco Mobile selling their phones with the handset locked to only their network.

Anyway, as reference -  if anyone has a similar issue - I paid the £4.50 and the site provided an unlock code for the handset to work with any network rather than just tesco mobile. Done in a coupla mins

You can get most nokia codes free through this site http://www.unlockme.co.uk/unlockme.html

Depends on what model you have.
