Just got back from Barcelona, where the Patron Saint of Catalonia is St George (Jordi).

They are really gearing up for a big celebration.

Don't know why we celebrate St George anyway - a foreigner who never set foot in this country who was championed after the Norman conquest to eradicate the celebration of St Edmund, the previous (and some would say true) patron saint of England, who was actually King of East Anglia. Also, he was actually German, which is a tradition which continues with our royal family to this day.

I'll have a drink to celebrate.

The fella beat up a dragon, that has to be worth celebrating.  I know some of you will say it's just a story, but I don't see any dragons in England now, do you?

Proof.

Sort of.

He stepped on a lizard while on holiday in Magaluf  Roll Eyes - Still Happy St George's Day to the Englandshire folk Grin .  You seem to pay about as much attention as we do to St Andrew's day up here.

How weird is that.  I didn't know that.  I was born on St George's Day and am married to an Edmund.  Fate?

St George was from Rhodes apparently, and kill lots of turks thus securing lots of riches for the English.
