Why do we press the button for the lift or when crossing the road repeatedly thinking it is going to work faster?   The lift will arrive at same time regardless of how many times you press the button.

In fact many lifts have an 'anti-vandal' feature, where if a button is pressed many times in succession, or if lots of buttons are selected, the system disregards these presses completely.

So pressing a lift button lots of times can actually slow it down.

Why do I press the Sky+ remote lots of times when it seems to hang?  It doesn't speed things up for me, it usually ends up doing the same thing dozens of times and I have to sit there and wait whilst it recovers from my multiple requests.
