I fancy this job.

I quite like the idea of this job advertised in my local paper.
Licensing Standards Officer. £20,353 - £24,308
Temporary until March 2010.
You will be responsible for enforcement of legislation relating to the liquor and gambling industries. You will preferrably have experience of working in a regulatory environment and preperation of reports for Committee/Court.
Problem is, I have no experience of working in a regulatory environment, or any of that preperation of reports stuff either. Do you think I would be able to blag it with experience of getting pisched and playing cards?

Seriously though, I wouldn't mind having a swing at this (as the money is much better than what I'm on now)
I am a bit underqualified, so will need to nail the application if I'm to stand a chance. I'm obviously going to mention my pub experience, but do you think mentioning full time poker would work for or against me?
I'll be able to do something about the preparing reports bit, does anyone have any advice as to what they may mean by "regulatory enviromnent?" Surely every work environment has regulations to follow and so could be described thusly?

By "regulatory enviromnent?" they mean that places must be complying with for instance the pub license, value of jackpot in fruit machine, using unlicensed gaming staff in a casino etc. etc.

Dont mention full time poker, but you could mention poker and the new laws and how you might be very keen to inforce them etc etc, but i doubt the job is much about that, more about pubs and fruit machines etc as Ecosse said.
Give it a go though, no harm in not trying..

Tank - I've got shedloads of experience of working in a regulatory environment and drafting reports. If you want me to look over your application and let you know the sort of stuff they will want to hear I'd be more than happy to do that.
Don't be put off too much by not having the experience - it's only preferable.

an organisation that has responsibility for overseeing other bodies and ensuring they keep in line - eg trading standards, ombudmens offices, the likes of OFCOM etc

My mother works in the same line of work heading up the Licensing Department of a local council. She's on just under £50k a year with a company car.
It's a good path for a career, but I don't know how you'd fare trying to get the job without prior experience.
