Not thrilled about this appointment Trappatoni's best days are nehind him he never did a great job with Italy and tbh in recent spells in club management he hasn't done much of note.

Now Lippi would have been nice Smiley

I think this is a great appointment. Trapatonni won the Austrian league last year (is on course to do it again this season) and qualified Italy for two major tournaments in a row in his previous post. Yes, you can say that Italy were awful in 2004 but they were robbed in 2002. And the moderate levels of success above are far and away beyond anything achieved in the past decade by wasters like El Tel and Troussier who were potentials at one point or another. He seems to be in good health and there is no indication that he will have trouble seeing out his contract (McCain, 71, may very well get the most difficult job in the world this coming October).

We have hired a coach with a CV that can stand side to side with anyone else to ever have managed at the top level in the game. Everyone should be jumping up and down at this appointment. He is surely the best candidate that was realistically available to us at this time. Now lets get behind him and the players and hope for some magic.

Is anything known about the investor who stepped forward to pay Trapattoni's wages?

And please don't steal Liam Brady.

7th richest businessman in Ireland and pays half of Trappa's wages. Well done him, I say!
