I'm not sure I played this that well, but I'd like some thoughts on it if possible.

I'm not sure checking the turn was the move here but I'd like to check.  I was worried about the insta min raise on the flop which I guess defies my logic for the rest of the hand, but after the flush didn't come and there was no obvious straight on the board (couldn't see him needing the 5 3 or 6 to make a hand given the play) I was calling the raise on the river.

Had I bet the turn here, he may well have folded anyway, so perhaps I got the maximum out of him I was getting, but I think I played it badly still.

Opinions?

I would have played it lot stronger and made less lol.

Preflop: Good

Flop: Leading or check raising are both alright depending on players tendancies. Im only calling this insta min raise to use a stack-a-donk line which involves check raising the turn looking to get it in. I 3bet this out of position most of time to about $20.

Turn: Check raise to $25.

River: As played leading is fine and I would just shove for the rest of his stack.

No monsters under my bed he has ak,aq more than aa and qq.

Oh and buy in full imo.

His insta min raise would suggest AK/AQ to me here so I'd reraise him on the flop hoping for a shove. If he only called then I'd look to get it all in on the turn. Build the pot with your huge hand after he's shown strength

if you have bottom set you should be prepared to go broke and never ever ever let a min-raise on the flop scare you. ever.

I think you made the most you were going to make out of this hand because your oppo had FA but I repop the flop and hope he indeed has AK/AQ and shoves against me. I never fear a higher set here..ever.

I again would have lead out on the turn hoping he shoves.

The river I think you played well..but now the pot is too small.

the above obviously only works if your oppo has a hand...in this case you made more than I would have made.

Like Longy said..always buy in for the max.

Cheers,

The not max buy in is a separate issue, I usually am in for the full amount.

I know I played it badly, and not raising all in on the river at least was poor.  I even assumed he had AK or AQ so why not put him in?   Cheers for the replies, confidence was a bit shattered tonight so I was having concerns on how to play bottom set against a fairly aggressive opponent.  On a new day I can see the problem Smiley

God damnit. You have a set sir. Try and get all the loot over the line at some point.

You want a set (bottom or whatever) against an aggressive opponent.  Let him bet into you, but you need to be building the pot so his bets on later streets are larger - snowballing in effect so you can get all your money in.

If he has an overset, shrug, kick the cat, and reload.
