My brother's computer has 256 RAM and prob needs more.  How much is the norm these days?  I remember before someone posted a link to a website where it scans your comp and gives you a price for new RAM or something.  Anyone know of the website?

http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/index.aspx

this one is pretty good

'norm' these days is hard to define, as it depends on a number of things such as programs in use, operating system, processor, and what your motherboard will actually allow.

ok thanks for the link.

Seems he has one port free to chuck in some memory. Probably add 512mb.

Where can i buy it from? How much are we talking? Can a non-specialist stick the memory in?

Sticking in extra ram is dead easy, but if you are going to add anything add atleast 1gig

Just a word of caution, and I mention this as the lappy only holds 256mb at the moment. Is the lappy getting on a bit? if so it might not actually take a 1gig stick of ram - or more, you may have to install 2 separate 512mb's instead etc.

The website I gave you will tell you what is the maximum it will hold and what is the best way to improve, follow their guild line and you won't go far wrong.
