Help Required - AVG Free version 8.0

I have uninstalled and reinstalled AVG 8.0 free more times than I care to remember in the last month but still I cannot seem to get the updates working. Every time I have tried this the anti virus and anti spyware software continue to show as being out of date.

I have followed the instructions on how to check for and run updates but this doesn't seem to do anything.

Just wondering if anyone else has encountered this and how they resolved it.
 
I should also point out I am something of a technophobe but I am pretty confident it's nothing I've done.

I gave up with agv after numerous problem and now use Avast instead,still free and imo at least as good as agv.

Did you have any other protection software on your machine prior to installing AVG? eg ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc etc

Had previously been using AVG Free 7.0 without any problems.

Did you have any other protection software on your machine prior to installing AVG? eg ZoneAlarm, Norton Internet Security etc etc
