This came up in a home game and was wondering what people think of it. It worked in this situation but wondered if people think that in other situations this is a silly play.

Was dealt  in small blind. Two players limped in, both know my general style, ie. raise with anything but only call with really strong hands. I was trying to get the maximum from this hand as it was early on in the tournie, everyone had approximately 50x the big blind so we had plenty of chips to play with. I raised 8x the big blind. The big blind folded, the first player folded and the player on the button thought for ages and then went all in. I called in an instant and he flipped over .

What I was trying to do  was represent a low pair by over betting hoping to represent that I wanted to take the pot down there and then knowing that the other players would know that if they re-raised me, I would never call with a low pair (I hate coin flips). It worked in this case because the players knew me, but would this strategy of raising far too much work in general? The way I saw it, if I raised 4x the big blind from the small blind, I am showing super strength anyway and probably everyone will fold. This way, I at least have the oppurtunity of a re-raise from someone putting me on a bluff and trying to buy the pot.

Thoughts?

well around a 5x raise would be standard here anyway, i dont hate the big raise vs live retards who will call a whole lot or do something spewy like this.  in general this game will be really profitable for a good player, since people are going to call far too much preflop, and fold far far too much postflop.

fwiw, this spot really isn't interesting at all imo.  you played it fairly badly, but hes obviously not a very good player, or levels above us all

How on earth did he play it badly?Huh?Huh??

From the description he has given of his own percieved image and the description of his opponents he has played this to a tee.

This is not the way to play KK in any given situation but from what the Original poster has described then I'd say this is the best way to play in this situation with these opponents.

I think its almost fairly standard to overplay AA & KK in many of the MTT's online from $10 - $50 Especially the ones that are starting with 1500 chips early doors.  Folk want to build big pots pre flop and try and get most of the chips in on the flop.  Personally I still like to play to the standard 3 or 4 x bb raise.  I try and do this until it gets deep and I then reduce my raise to something between 1.5 and 2.5 x bb

I disagree i would of made it 4xBB to go because u have K's u want callers well maybe 2 then take it down on the flop, early game why race for your tourny? in a cash game its different but ina  tourny u need to think of the long run...
