Mobile Phone Advice

E mail rec today, thought it would be useful to know;
If you receive a phone call on your mobile from any person, saying that, he or she is a company engineer, or telling that they're checking your mobile line, and you have to press # 90 or #09 or any other number. End this call immediately without pressing any numbers. There is a fraud company using a device that once you press #90 or #09 they can access your "SIM" card and make calls at your expense. Forward this message to as many friends as you can, to stop it.
All mobile users pay attention if you receive a phone call and your mobile phone displays (XALAN) on the screen don't answer the call, END THE CALL IMMEDIATELY, if you answer the call, your phone will be infected by a virus..
This virus will erase all IMEI and IMSI information from both your phone and your SIM card, which will make your phone unable to connect with the telephone network. You will have to buy a new phone. This information has been confirmed by both Motorola and Nokia.
PLEASE FORWARD THIS PIECE OF INFORMATION TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS HAVING A MOBILE.

I had a call from a guy claiming to be from orange a while ago. I was sure he was dodgy from the off. The caller display was a mobile number so I treated him with contempt! anyway it turned out he was from orange and below is the letter of complaint I wrote to them -
I received a call today from Orange which resulted in
my phone being Barred for ALL out-going calls. Details
below -
I received a call Today 6th October at 12:43pm from
phone number XXXXXXXX. The man stated he was from
Orange and asked if I was happy with my new phone (I
recently upgraded direct with Orange) I replied yes.
He then asked if I was happy with my bill (?) I said
yes. He then said he would look at my account and I
think he said to see if I'm missing out on anything
(maybe he is in sales). He then asked for my password.
I refused. He asked for the last digit of the
password. I refused again and explained that he called
me and I'm not prepared to give that information out.
He said he would have to Bar my phone. I said "No you
wont" and hung up (at this time I was sure it was a
hoax!). Moments later I received a text message from
Orange and my phone was Barred from all out-going
calls. I could not even call 150 to resolve the
situation.
I have some major issues with the way your customer
service representative dealt with this.
The number showing on my phone was a mobile number. I
had no way of knowing this was an 'official' Orange
phone call. I would never give out a password of mine
without being sure that I knew who I was giving it to.
So what did I do wrong?
I had to go back to my office to log onto the internet
to find Orange's homepage to get an Orange customer
service number to call from a work phone. The person I
spoke to this time was helpful, apologetic and
resolved the problem although she could not tell me
what Orange called me for initially.
Please investigate this and find out just why the
first person called me and why he felt that it was
necessary to Bar my phone.
Also confirm why I can't call 150 when the phone has
been Barred. I could have been in an emergency
situation at the time of this call (car breakdown
etc).
I expect an apology from this person and a damn good
reason why Orange deserve my continued business.
In the end I never received a good answer. They insisted I call up again to complain as they can't deal with it on email. I never followed it up. Moral? sometime the calls are real!!

I just love these types of calls from call centers. They call you and you then have to prove to them that you are who they called.
I never divulge any password to anyone on the phone, e-mail, website etc. I usually end up in a comical discussion with the call center agent about them proving to me that they are who they say they are. I ask them for their password, date of birth, postcode etc. and they really don't know how to handle that. It's a good way to get rid of cold callers if you should happen to answer them by mistake.

I got a call last week from TMOBILE Phone "Police"
I give the wife a phone and the bill comes to me as one account
Last week she got a call from a 070 number they drop the call and
she phoned back as the number was on the phone. She called the number
3 times this cost me £27. T mobile phoned me but were not willing to
give me any money back which is fair enough.
SO ANY NUMBER STARTING 070 DO NOT RING BACK TAKE THE CALL OR NOTHING
Regards
M
(phone police)
