Cheap (as) chips

Wandered into my local Asda last night and picked up a Poker Set for £8.98.
For that you get;
1) a nice tin to keep your biscuits fresh, or for leftover christmas cake.
2) a small rectangle of green felt - ideal for a hamster's subbuteo pitch
3) some great tips from the experts - TJ Cloutier says 'Mix up your play to confuse your opponents!'
4) a pack of not very good cards
but, as well as the crap...
5) 200 good quality chips - 7.2g in four colours, idea for a reasonable home game.

Lol
Love the subbuteo pitch idea. Argos have been selling WPT sets for a little while and I was told that Tesco's are now selling sets. A friend told me her 11 year old daughter saw a book there "Poker for Beginners" or similar, she asked her Mum if she should get me that for Christmas!

Best cheap set I have seen is in costco, £20 gets you 500 chips 12g and a large felt with a racetrack and 2 decks of average cards.
a good deal for £20.

That's good. Damn, I would package up the box and take it right back to Asda,
but the hamster got over-excited about his new pitch. It all got a bit messy.

Dunno if these are any good - but seem quite cheap and no P&P

as they saying goes "you sh*g wan sheep".....
I had a home game on saturday at which both Rod and Teacake were present. I provided great music, food, nice table, good chips..... but the cards, ah the cards....
I had ordered some from a dodgy ebay seller, and needless to say by saturday they hadnt turned up yet. Obviously there arent too many places to get decent (in fact any) playing cards in the Lanarkshire area at short notice so had to take a trip to my local woolworths.
When I got them home I noticed that the "Chad Valley" playing cards were about 20% smaller than a regular deck of cards. They also seemed to bend rather easily...
BTW The chips I got from a really good web seller in dundee. I am not sure if I am allowed to promote it here, but I have no connection with him.

Putting up info for others wouldn't be spamming - it's just letting the rest know where you got a good deal.
I could be tempted to try & sell on my set for a set of those if the price is right.
BTW Nice home game, good night - but the cards were the hit of the evening (better than my 4's over 5's full house
)

Ok then the website was
www.pokeroutlet.co.uk
They are called the Clay Tri-Colour AKQJ set and cost £60 for 500. Maybe a bit heavy for some people, but as I said I like the fact they dont have any numbers on them - I mean what use are 150 $1 chips when playing a tournament.

this is all very distressing as I paid around £200 about 5 years ago for my set of 500 chips and carry case... how times have changed...
if only the cost of funding my losses would have also dropped by such a large percentage....
