Anybody remember from last year what the Rio puts on at the same time in November?  Are there cash games, sngs, anything else, or just the final table and thats it?  I would imagine Harrahs take their chance to make an extra buck and open up some tables

I seem to remember last year there was sweet FA going on.

The final is in the Penn and Teller theatre - not the Amazon Room.

The result of the Dream team competition at the Rio: we thought the team in 16th place were desperately unfortunate, probably hampered by the responsibility of living up to their name.

Tikay and Tighty - thank you for running this thread over the course of the WSOP.
Fascinating stuff and a really enjoyable ME. G.

Thanks are entirely due to tikay, which I echo. Very helpful thread throughout.

TY COaW, & Tighty, also Tighty for some help when I was struggling.

snoops did a far better job last year, highlighting all the European players, not just the Brits, but I can tell you, it's a ballache of a job, though satisfying to see so many folks read it daily. The blonde software restrictions were a real pain, sigh.

16.000+ views says it all.

The icing on the cake has been a great performance by the Brits this year, especially Roland, JP, John K, & now James.

Here's to - God willing - next year.

“This year, the WSOP locked out players who flew in from around the world to play in the main event"

Why did they do this?? Who was it?

...when anybody with an iota of sense knew it would sell-out on Day 1d.

Typically, instead of looking in the mirror, they blamed someone else. Everything that goes wrong these days is someone else's fault.

What happened to being accountable to oneself?

Thats just stupid. Playing in an event this size you'd be registered weeks in advance.

Shulman is clearly just bitter about his media deal and in denial

What a twonk, no offense to anyone who got shut out of day 1D but they had nobody to blame but themselves for that. Its like getting on a plane, you get there HOURS before you need to because its too important to miss being cocky. All those people who kick off on Airport and similar programmes deserve what they get imo.

You would think Shulman would be ecstatic with making the final table, he says this had nothing to do with losing the media deal, but it comes exactly the opposite.

He looks like he hangs around bins a lot anyway, so no wonder he would throw it in the trash

I penned a Blog elsewhere which told the story of the Day 1d morning, & there's an Interview with the Commish, Jeffrey Pollack, about the whole affair, over on You Tiube, & elsewhere.

Thus was the scene at Tourney Registration on the morning of 1d, starting at 0730, & then at half-hour intervals. The usual suspects, who could not organise a piss-up in a brewery, tried to muck-rake & suggest wrongdoing, but they got it wrong, as ever, though never wirthdrew their slurs.

The piece was called "I have $10,000 - please take it". Here's an extract.

Remarkable scenes at The Rio today, on Day 1d  - the last Opening day - of the Main Event.

Unless you've been on the moon, you should know that today would be a sell-out. It was guaranteed, nailed on, a sure thing, the bet of the century. You know that, I know that, my cat knows that. Even Orford knew that, & he's like Fawlty Towers's Manuel, he knows nothing.

It's not like Registration has just opened. It's been open since March.

This was the scene this morning, here......

....at 7.30am, when I was ambling down to the Media Centre to set up Base Camp.

....At 9am, as I poodled up the Corridor to have the Brekkie Team Meet with Miss Hen & her brood, it was looking like this......

....And 30 minutes later, armed with a list of our jobs for the day (which fitted easily onto 20 pages of A4 paper), it was looking like this......

Soon, tempers were rising.....

One man had flown in from Seattle by Private Jet, at a cost of $8,000.

Others had been staying in Vegas, playing Events at The Rio, & had just not bothered to register earlier.

It all got a bit unpleasant for a while. They all blamed Harrah's, & the WSOP, but thats just nonsense - they only had themselves to blame. I'd have them all shot.

100's got turned away - 800 was rumoured - including many "big names", but really, we have to be accountable to ourselves, & if we don't buy in early enough, then we run the risk of not getting our seat. Somehow, about 6,500 players managed it, so it can't be that difficult!

It did occur to me that those who got turned away, all with $10,000 burning a hole in their pocket, could have had a nice little Tourney of their own. 800 players @ $10,000 = $8,000,000. Hmm, there's an idea.....

I hope Tikay doesn't mind me posting this in this thread...

Coverage of the WSOP continues on Tuesday on ESPN (Wed morning 1am-3am BST iirc). For anyone who doesn't want to wait for it to be uploaded to pokertube the link below worked last week...
