I have been pretty ill for the past couple of weeks - started off with flu (man/swine/other) and eventually that went away, and left me with a horrendous cough. honestly every 30 seconds i was off, spluttering like a maniac. i tried all different cough syrups/linctus and nothing worked.
anyway was sitting watching the tv yesterday and fancied some chocolate (as you do). went into the kitchen, and there was only this 'adult' chocolate - dark begian 70% cocoa stuff. normally not my favourite but there wasnt much else.
I started eating it, and had about half (it was a big bar). After about an hour, i realised something. I wasnt coughing anymore. and so it continued for a couple of hours. I then ate more of the chocolate and it stopped again.
turns out this is just an old wives tale - there is clinical evidence to support this. Apparantly one of the main components of cocoa is theobromine, which is 50% more effective in supressing coughing than codeine.
I am now on my third bar, and am just wondering if i can get it on prescription
