Hi all, not expecting a huge response from this, but I'm moving to Malta at the end of this month and I wondered if anyone knew anyone who's based out there already and might be able to help me with info about good places to play etc.

Any info at all would be very much appreciated.

Not at all Smiley

I work for Betfair, and managed to get a transfer over there to do the same job as I'm doing now, but in Malta.

I'll be living in an area called Swatar, which is about 15 mins from Sliema, but location shouldn't be too much of a problem, as Malta is pretty tiny!

I know that there is a community of poker pros living out there (escaping tax from some countries I guess), but I doubt there's too many Brits there for poker.

Your moving there by choice?

I was over there last week to sort out the apartment, and I spent 90% of my time sipping cold beers by the sea whilst wearing a t-shirt, shorts and flip flops, then flew home to -2 degree Luton.

Yep, moving by choice Smiley

I went to malta a few years ago on a footy tour and visited the draganora casino in st julians on a couple of occasions... tourneys, could accomodate upto 36 runners with an ok schedule.. the cash games were loose (generally only 1 table - 1/2 euro) though a decent setting with an amazing horse game in the casino where you could bet on singles/forecasts/tricasts... i spent a few hours watching these plastic figures go round - fun times!

Gonna have to disagree with you there, beautiful country, friendly people, warm all year round.
Reason I was interested in where and why Sighmuns was moving was because I'm seriously tempted to spend a lot more time there.

A mate of mine worked over there for a while and was home within 6 months as he was so bored with the place. I also know a Doc who couldn't wait to get out of there for the same reason, but meh for a 2 week holiday I'm sure its fine, only my opinion obv..........

A few people i've met over there have said that it's easy to get bored of Malta after some years because of it's size and the tendency for everyone to know everyone. I hold it to be great for me for a few years tho... can continue working my 30 hr a week job and playing poker the rest of the time just as effectively as I could at home, but with the bonus of being on an island of sun and fitties.

Another plus point for me is that Ryanair fly there cheaply year round (v.cheaply off season) from Luton, which is my local airport, about 20 mins from my current home. Will be handy for friends to come for cheap getaways.

Thanks for the responses so far guys, LeedsRhodesy, i've saved those websites, look pretty promising.
