partypoker and Matchroom Sport are pleased to confirm that the PartyPoker Women’s World Open IV will take place in London on the 23rd – 24th March 2010.
The 24 player $3,000 buy-in tournament features a total prize pool of $72,000 and a six-seat final table. The top two players from each of the three deep-stacked eight handed heats carry their chips through to the final table. Starting stacks for the heats are 200,000, with blinds starting at 1,000/2,000.
Amongst those already confirmed to take part include Team PartyPoker Kara Scott and the one and only Annette Obrestad. Joining them are Women’s World Open III winner Aisling Collins and last year’s runner-up, Kim Wooka from Japan . Other confirmations include Laurence Grondin, Shelley Rubenstein, Stefanie Bergener, Maria Demetriou, Christine Klecz, Pippa Flanders and season two winner Soraya Homam.
Aisling Collins, a Sky Poker producer, showed brilliant spirit and superb skill to take down the Women’s World Open III title. Her aggressive play meant she had one star fan in the form of poker prodigy Annette Obrestad, who was in the commentary box. Aisling finished second place in her heat and only won her way through to the final through the last gasp runner’s up play-off. Aisling was involved in a tense heads-up battle with Japan ’s Wooka and there were a number of swings either way before Collins came out on top. It always seemed as though Aisling was going to emerge triumphant, however. When heads-up play started Collins held a 450,000/250,000 advantage but Wooka soon clawed her way back. The decisive hand came when the blinds were 10,000/20,000. Aisling raised to 70,000 with
and was called by Kim with
10d. The flop came down
and Kim checked. Collins raised another 70,000 and Wooka went all-in. Collins called and the
on the turn gave her the flush and victory!
A PartyPoker spokesman said: “Last year Aisling proved that Britain’s got talent but the same can be said about Japan in the form of Kim Wooka. Both will be strong contenders for the title this year. We’ve made the stacks deeper and the competition is just as fierce. It is great to have Kara in the line-up, she made her major breakthrough in the poker world by reaching the final table of the inaugural event and then she went on to cash big at the WSOP Main Event and Irish Open.”
Eddie Hearn, Director of Matchroom Sport said: "The PartyPoker Women's World Open has proved extremely popular with players, viewers and broadcasters over the last three seasons. As the game continues to grow, we have made a number of changes to our formats that enables the viewers to watch a deeper-stacked game with more skill, where players can really showcase their ability and flair. We are delighted to welcome back Aisling Collins who will be defending her title but it won't be easy as the likes of Annette Obrestad, Kara Scott, Laurence Grondin, Kim Wooka and Maria Demetriou will be looking to take it down."
Commentary will be provided by Jesse May , with presenting duties shared between the glamorous pairing of Kara Scott and Tatjana Pasilic. Coverage of the event will first be broadcast on Five in the UK later this year and then distributed internationally.
